Abstract

                                       ABSTRACTThis research entitled “Deiksis Dalam Film A Walk To Remember Karya Adam Shankman: Suatu Analisis Pragmatik”. The statements of problem of this research are: what are the types of deixis in film A Walk to Remember by Adam Shankman? and how is the use of deixis in film A Walk to Remember by Adam Shankman?. The objectives of this research are to identify and classify the types of deixis and to analyze the use of deixis in the film A Walk to Remember by Adam Shankman. This research used a descriptive method. The data of deixis collected from the sentence in conversation from the characters in the film and analyzed according to Levinson’s theory (1983).The result of this research shows that there are five types of deixis in the film A Walk to Remember, those are person deixis (first person: I, my, me, mine, we, our; second person: you, your, yours; third person: he, him, she , her), place deixis: here, there, inside, time deixis: today, tomorrow, 2 years ago, right now, tonight, 4 years, discourse deixis: this, that, these, social deixis: sir, reverend, son, father, child, husband, wife, citizen high, citizen low. Abstract

ABSTRACT  This research which is entitled ‘Slang Words on Instagram’ is an attempt to identify the types,kinds and forms also to analyze the meanings of slang words on instagram. The theories used in this research are by Patridge and Bloomfield’s theories and the data will be taken from instagram. This research applies a descriptive method. Theoretically, this research will give a contribution to linguistic study especially on sociolinguistic field more specifically on slangs found in instagram and also provide with rich information about slang. Practically, this study can help students and readers in understanding the types, forms and meanings of slang words in instagram. The result shows that types and form of slang found in instagram are abbreviation, shortened forms, facetious misprounanciation, public house slang, society slang and the meanings found in instgaram used online dictionary. Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled is Analysis of Signs in The Crucifixion Film: A Semiotic Analysis. The objectives of this research are to identify, classify, and analyze the kinds and meaning of signs in The Crucifixion Film. In this research, the writer uses Pierce’s theory in the process to identifying, classifying and analyzing each scenes and meaning of signs in The Crucifixion Film. The method of this research is descriptive. In doing this research, the writer read some books and journals about signs. The data of signs were collected from every scene which contain sign in the film and analyzed according to Pierce’s theory. The result of this research shows that there are three kinds of signs in film, namely icons, index and symbols. Sign of icons found in 5 scenes namely man and woman, book, sister Adelina and Vaduva, book, and Agares. Sign of indexes found in 9 scenes namely cell iron, blood, costume black, light, insect, strangulation, blood, rain and blood. Sign of symbols are found in 5 scenes namely prayer candles, cross, prohibition, mask and cross. All of this signs contain different meanings. Icons of man and woman mean father Phil’s own, and woman: Nicole’s own. Icons of sister Adelina's and Vaduva’s means Sister Adelina and Vaduva itself. Icons of an exorcism book means a brown book and is a square shaped. Icons of Agares's demonic means a bald-headed demon, and a skull-like body. Icons of an exorcism book means a brown book, is square in shape. Index of the prisoner cell means confinement for the murder of Father Dimitru. Index of the blood means a reaction from within the body of Sister Adelina. Index of the black clothing means shows grief. Index of the flashlight means sing of darkness. Index of the insect means the existence of Agares' resentment towards Nicole. Index of the choking means the resentment of Satan Agares over Sister Vaduva's visit. Index of blood means the fall of Father Gabrielle from the roof of the Church. Index of the rain means mocking uses holy water. Index of blood means a violent impact experienced by Nicole and symbol of the prayer candle means light of Christ, symbol of the cross means life and evidence of strength, symbol of the prohibition means line cannot be passed and the entered, symbol of the mask means a costume for the celebration of the strigoi festival and symbol of the cross means life and evidence of strength. Keywords : Signs, The Crucifixion Film,  Semiotic Analysis

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study is an attempt to identify, classify, and describe the category of convivial speech act in the film “ Another Cinderella Story” by Damon Santostefano. In collecting the data, the writer reads relevant books pertaining to convivial speech act, classify the convivial type and analysis speech aspect. In analyzing the data, the writer uses Leech’s concept descriptively based on pragmatic analysis. The findings of the research show that the kinds and the function of the convivial acts in the film “ Another Cinderella Story” by Damon Santostefano are, offering, thanking, greeting, inviting and congratulating.  It is excpected that the study will help student and readers in learing pragmatics especially on convivial.   _______________________________________________________________ Keywords : pragmatic analysis; convivial function; speech act;

Abstract

ABSTRACTS This research is entitled “Deiksis Dalam Injil Markus (Analisis Pragmatik)”. There are 5 types of deixis, those are: person deixis (first person, second person, and third person), place deixis, time deixis, discourse deixis, and social deixis. Deixis belongs to pragmatics. The word deixis come from the Greek deiktikos, which means, „pointing‟. The objectives of this research are to identify and classify the types of deixis and to analyze the use of deixis in the Gospel of Mark. The method used in this research was is descriptive method. The data were identified, classified and analyzed descriptively. The data were analyzed based on Levinson theory. The result of this research shows there are five types of deixis that could be found in the Gospel of Mark. They are person deixis (first person: I, me, and our second person: you, your, you‟r brother‟s, and third person: he, his), place deixis: (home, marketplace, here, mountain, hometown, gethsemane, courtyard), time deixis: (when), discourse deixis: (that and this, and social deixis: tax collectors, disciples, The Lord, teacher). It is expected that this research will help the students and the other readers to learn the pragmatics aspect, especially about deixis.  Keyword : Deixis, Gospel of Mark, Pragmatics, Injil Markus.

Abstract

                                        ABSTRACTThis research entitled ?Kata Pinjaman Bahasa Inggris dalam Istilah Medis Indonesia?. The objectives of research are to find out the kinds and the changes of the meanings of English loanwords in Indonesian language.  In analysing the data, the writer uses Haugen?s theory to find out the types and Baugh?s theory to get the changes of the meanings. To support the analysis, the writer uses Oxford Dictionary and Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia. The result of this research show that based on the theory of Haugen there are three kinds of loanword. Those are loanword without phonemic substitution, loanword with partial phonemic substitution, loanword with complete phonemic substitution and there are two kinds of the changes of meaning such as extension, narrowing, regeneration, and degeneration.      Keywords: Loanwords, Changes of meaning, Medical terminology, Sociolinguistics

Abstract

ABSTRACT  This research is entitled ?Students? Perception on the Use of English Songs for Learning English?. The objectives of the research are to identify, classify, and describe the students? perception about learning English using song. Also, it is to analyze and describe the aspects of learning that can increase students? English skills through listening English song. This research used descriptive method. The writer collected data by interviewing 20 participants at English Department, Faculty of Humanities, Sam Ratulangi University. The writer has found seven perceptions as the result of this research They are The Use of English songs to learning English is fun; not boring; effective learning media; entertaining; media to learn about culture; encouragement to learn; improve brain capacity. In this research, the writer also found improvement in students? vocabulary, pronounciation, listening and speaking skills. There are 15 students feel the improvement in their vocabulary skill, 16 students in pronounciation skill, 15 students in listening skill and 17 students in speaking skill.  Keywords: Students? perception, English Learning, Learning media, Song

Abstract

ABSTRACT  This research entitled “Afiks-Afiks Derivasi Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Talaud Dialek Nanusa (Suatu Analisis Kontrastif)”, aims at describing and analyzing the derivational affixes in English and Talaud language Nanusa‟s dialect in term of form, function, and meaning in verb, noun, adjective and adverb. The objectives of this research is to find similarities and differences of derivational affixes in English and Talaud language Nanusa‟s dialect by using William O‟Grady‟s (1987) theory and contrasting by using Lado‟s method.  This research used descriptive method. The data for English derivational affixes were collected from English textbook, namely Contemporary  Linguistic Analysis : An Introduction (1987) by O‟Grady and for Talaud language Nanusa‟s dialect were taken from four native speakers as informants who were born and lived in Mamahan village, Talaud island.  The results of this research show either English or Talaud language Nanusa‟s dialect has affixes of verb, noun, adjective and adverb derivation. Derivational affixes process in English through prefixes and suffixes while in Talauud language Nanusa‟s dialect through prefixes, infixes, suffixes and confixes.  Both English and Talaud language Nanusa‟s dialect have derivational prefixes which have negative meaning. In context of proffesion or job, English derivational affixes process through suffixation; meanwhile, Talaud language Nanusa‟s dialect through infixation.  Key Words : Derivational Affixes of English, Talaud language Nanusa‟s dialect,   Contrastive Analysis

Abstract

ABSTRACT  This research entitled ?Tense in English and in Sangihe language: A Contrastive Analysis?. The aims of this study are to identify and describe the tense system in English and Sangihe Language, and to analyze the differences of tense in English and in Sangihe language. The writer uses theory from Comrie (1985) which divides tense into three categories namely the absolute tense, relative tense and absolute-relative tense. Moreover, this research uses descriptive and contrastive analysis method. The data in English were collected from English grammar books and the data of Sangir language were obtained from informants in Sangihe Islands. The results that found in this study show 12 kinds of tenses in both English and Sangir language and have the similarities and differences. Kinds of tenses in English are simple present, present continuous, present perfect, present perfect continuous, simple past, past continuous, past perfect, past perfect continuous, simple future, future continuous, future perfect, future perfect continuous. Kinds of tenses in Sangir language are kala kini sederehana (simple present), kala sedang kini (present continuous), kala perfektif kini (present perfect), kala sedang perfektif kini (present perfect continuous), kala lampau sederhana (simple past), kala sedang lampau (past continuous), kala perfektif lampau (past perfect), kala sedang perfektif lampau (past perfect continuous), kala futur sederhana (simple future), kala sedang future (future continuous), kala perfektif futur (future perfect), dan kala sedang perfektif futur (future perfect continuous).The similarities that emerge in both languages are the kinds of tenses in English exist in Sangir language; both English and Sangir language have the same 12 tenses; English and Sangir language have the same meaning or same fungtion to explain the time of utterance. The differences that emerge in the tense systems of English and Sangir language lie in verb form of both languages. English language uses to be and auxiliary verbs which tend to confuse the speakers of Sangir language as well as the use of regular and irregular verbs in English that affect the tenses, because in Sangir language just use affixation in the verb to affect the tenses.    Keywords: Tense, English, Sangihe Language, Contrastive Analysis

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled "Characterization of Figures in Sampai Jumpa di SurgaNovel". The focus of this research is on the characterization process Nurgiyantoro concept of based on figure character analysis in the novel of tettle review. They are character clasifications by Nurgiyantoro, they are: main character, supporting character, protagonist character and    antagonist character, simple character and complex character, static character and developed character, netral character and tipical character.  Method used in this research is descriptive. It described the characters based on the analysis. It can be shown that the main characters, Raiza, Amar, and Ulfa, are protagonist. Raiza is kind, humble, easy going, smart, wise and optimistic, Amar is humorous, wise, critical, and humble, and Ulfa is too sensitive, wise, and smart. Spporting characters who are protagonist are Hafiz, Pak Haji Salim, Mbak Gita, Mrs. Retno, Pak Udin, Mbak Hannah, Haikal, Firman, Sigit, Aldi, Ustadz Hanafi, Bu Ayu, Wisnu, Haris, Akbar, Madam, Ihsan , Ustazah Qianita, Mrs. Rohana, Ahri, Doctor Krisna, and Bi Nini. Those characters possessed kindness, optimistic, hard work, wise, critical, abd humble. The supporting antagonist character is Nyonya, she is egoistcs and proud.      Keywords: characters, novel, sampai jumpa di surga
