Abstract

ABSTRACTS Imperative sentence is a setence that is used to issue orders or directives.Imperative sentence contains a verb in the imperative mood. In terms of communication, imperative sentence is also used to signal, permission or any kind of exhortation. It is called illocutionary force. English and Siau language are two languages which come from different language families. English belongs to the Indo-European language, whereas Siau language belongs to Austronesian. The research questions is what the grammatical form and its meaning of imperative sentence in English and Siau language? and what are similarities and differences of English and Siau language in terms of formand meaning in communication? The objective of the research is to find out the grammatical form and its meaning in communication between English and Siau language. The data of English and Siau language is analysed based on the concept of Beaumont and Granger. The Siau data are taken from some informants who know Siau language well. It is hoped that this study can help students or readers to understand imperative sentences in terms of their differences as well as their similarities. ---------------------------------- Key word: Imperative sentence in English and Siau language, Contrastive Analysis.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research entitled “Alienation as reflected on Charles Dickens’s Hard Times” is written to find out the phenomena of alienation. Alienation is a big issue in society and personality. The problem to be researched is how the characteristic of Alienation revealed in the novel Hard times. The objective of this research is to identify, classify and analyze the phenomena of alienation revealed through the perspective of character. This is a qualitative research with descriptive method. To identify and classify the types of Alienation on this novel, researcher uses the theory from Karl Marx, where he categorizes alienation into four types; they are alienation from product, from work, from their self and from another man. Then Robert’s character analysis is used to reflect each phenomena of Alienation found of this novel base on the perspective of character and author’s narration.The result of this research reveals that the type of alienation which commonly appears in novel is the alienation from work. Two of the main character Louisa and Thomas Gradgrind Jr. experience alienation because they was forced by people around them to do something that they do not want. Most of the Alienation found trough the statement from other character.   They define, force and dictate others to do or behave base on their will. Like shown by Josiah Bounderby and Thomas Gradgrind toward their family and friends. Key Words: Alienation, Novel and Character.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is focused on the commissive act in Colours Garuda Indonesia Magazines. The commissive act is one of many illocutionary acts which essentially involves the speaker committing himself to behave in some required ways, for instance promising and swearing. The aim of this research is to find out and to analyze the categories of commissive in Colours Garuda Indonesia Magazines advertisement especially Consumer Advertisement that refer to illocutionary function and to analyze how they are performed. In collecting the data, the writer focused on Colours Garuda Indonesia Magazines, editions January 2015, February 2015 and March 2015. Then the writer analyzes the collected data descriptively by using the theory of Austin and Tallei. The result of this study shows that there is a linguistics message in every text of an advertisement; it is used in the advertisement to give information and emotional response. There is commissive function of offering in every utterance in advertisement and the other commissive function such as persuading and promising which are found in consumer’s advertisements. It is expected that this study may help the students or readers to comprehend the illocutionary act, particularly about the commissive in the consumer advertisement in Colours Garuda Indonesia Magazines.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This skripsi entitled “The Irony In Searching The Holy Grail In Novel The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown” is intended to be one of the requirements to accomplish the Sarjana tittle at Faculty Of Humanities, University Of Sam Ratulangi Manado.  The aims of this research are to identify, classify and analyze the irony and how they are illustrated in searching the Holy Grail and identify and analyze the placement of irony in searching the Holy Grail in novel The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown.  In conducting this research, the methodology used is descriptive method by Winarno (1984). The approach used in this research is intrinsic approach by Wellek and Warren (1977). Theory of irony by Landy (1972), the classification of irony from theory of Edgar V. Roberts (1983) and theory of plot by Tasrif (in Nurgiyantoro:2002) are used to do the analysis.   The results of this research show that the irony and its three types: verbal irony, dramatic irony and irony of situation are found in the novel. Verbal irony is illustrated through the character of Andre Vernet. Dramatic irony is illustrated through the character’s statement of Teacher. Situational irony is illustrated through the character of Aringarosa. The analysis of the placement of irony shows that the irony elements are placed in rising action, climax and resolution. In rising action, the irony found is verbal irony through the character of Andre Vernet. In climax, the irony found is dramatic irony through the characters of The Teacher and Remy. Abstract

ABSTRACTSymbol is a sign which refer to an object. The religious symbols are representation of something that transcendental or occult and beyond the human thought. In this research the writer focus to kind of religious Symbols that exist in the celebration of sacrament that divided into seven types which is Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation, Reconciliation, Marriage, Ordination, Anointing of the sick. The objective of this research is to identify, classify and analyze the meaning of symbols that exist in sacrament celebration. In collecting data, the writer focuses on identifying kinds of religious symbols based on Riches theory in Dillstone (2002) and then analyzes the meaning of those symbols by using Brodbeck’s theory in Sobur (2013).The method used in this research is Descriptive method. The result of this research is there are 47 religious symbols that found in Catholic Sacraments and all of those symbols have relation with God, nature, human and life reality.Key words: Semiotic, Religious symbols,Catholic Sacraments

Abstract

This research design entitled ?Slangs in the Songs of Black Eyed Peas? is an attempt to identify the slangs in the songs of Black Eyed Peas, analyze and describe their forms and meanings. The theory  used in this research is by Bloomfield and this research applies a despcriptive methokd. Theoretically, this research will give a contribution to linguistic study especially on Sociolinguistics field more specifically on slangs found in the songs ofBlack Eyed Peas and also provide with rich information about slang.Practically, this study can help the students or the readers and the writer herself in understanding slang in terms of form and meaning in songs. The result show that the forms of slangs in the songs are abbreviation, facetious, misprounuciation, shortened forms, interjection, figurative expression, and nick name (calling person). There are some forms that cannot be found in the songs, they are interjection, and figurative expression form.   Keywords: slang, Songs of Black Eyed Peas, Bloomfield?s theory

ABSTRAKPenulisan ini mengambil topik tentang Sejarah Desa Tambala Kecamatan Tombariri Kabupaten Minahasa Tahun 1986-2016. Dalam penulisan ini menggunakan metode sejarah yang terdiri dari empat tahapan yaitu heuristik, kritik analisa, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Selain menggunakan metode sejarah, penulis juga menggunakan ilmu sosial yang berhubungan dengan penulisan ini. Ilmu sosial sebagai alat bantu untuk menjawab apa yang menjadi masalah dalam suatu penulisan sejarah.Karya ilmiah ini berbicara tentang berisi tentang sejarah desa Tambala dimulai dari tahun 1986-2012, dan seterusnya menjelaskan tentang asal mula penduduk membentuk suatu perkampungan samapai menjadi desa Tambala. Didalamnya juga menguraikan tentang keadaan pemerintahannya, pendidikan, agama, serta kehidupan sosial budaya masyarakat desa Tambala.Kata Kunci : Sejarah desa, tahun 1986-2012, kehidupan sosial budaya

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled “Kata-Kata Pinjaman Bahasa Inggris dalam Bahasa Indonesia pada Koran Harian Manado Post”. The objectives of this research are to find out the kinds and the changes of the meanings of English loan words in Indonesian language. In analyzing the data, the writer uses Haugen’s theory to find out the types and Baugh’s theory to get the changes of the meanings. To support the analysis, the writer uses Oxford Dictionary and Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia. The results of this research show that based on the theory of Haugen there are three kinds of loan word. Those are loan word without phonemic substitution, loan word with partial phonemic substitution, loan word with complete phonemic substitution and there are two kinds of the changes of meaning such as extention and narrowing, but regeneration and degeneration process are not found in those loan words. Abstract

ABSTRACT  This research which is entitled “Kode-kode Dalam Pujian dan Penyembahan Ibadah Karismatik” focuses on codes that can be found in almost all aspects of human life. In this category, codes are used in charismatic worship. The aims of this research are to identify and classify kinds of codes and to analyze and describe, meanings of codes that can be found in charismatic worship.  The writer uses Peirce’s theory about signs and codes (in Noth 1955)  in the process of identifying and classifying kinds of codes and the process of analyzing and describing the meanings of codes used in charismatic worship. The data were collected in Mawar Sharon Tower of Strength Church Manado. The writer uses descriptive method to analyze the forms of codes found in charismatic worship activities in this research. The results of this research show that there are 22 codes used in charismatic worship. The writer classifies them into 2 parts; the first part is song map codes, which consist of 16 codes: verse, 3 times repetition before ending, 2 times repetition before ending, last repetition before ending, ending, overtune, lowertune, cooling down, overtune+chorus, overtune+3 times repetition before ending, full music, prechorus, solo drum, solo piano. The second part is key tone codes, which consist of 7 codes: key C, key D, key E, key F, key G, key A, key B. The meaning of the song map codes is to communicate with the praise and worship team to lead the song to be sung from different parts. The meanings of the key tones codes are to give and to change the key tones that are used in worship.  Keywords: Charismatic Worship, Codes, Signs,  Descriptive Method

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled “Ideas of Feminism Revealed in The Novel The Mother by Pearl S. Buck” is written to find out the ideas of feminism. Feminism has an important role in society and culture. The problem to be researched is how the ideas of feminism revealed in the novel The Mother. The objective of this research is to identify, analyze and give explanation about the ideas of feminism revealed through the main female character, the mother, in the novel The Mother. The method of this research is descriptive. Intrinsic approach is applied in analyzing character the mother by using Robert’s theory, setting and plot. To analyze the ideas, the writer uses extrinsic approach, the theory of relation between literature and idea from Wellek and Warren.   The result of this research reveals that most of the actions done by the character of the mother show her as a strong female figure where she was able enter the whole aspects of her life, she became a mother and being a father and even she herself became the backbone of the family. The mother is able to defend her rights as a woman even though she often get mistreatment of those around her and even her own family. Ideas of feminism revealed through the character, plot and setting. Also, the relation between tradition of Chinese and the background of Chinese live in 1930’s are identified to found out the ideas of feminism.     Key Words: Feminism, Novel and Character.
