Abstract

The effect on the ZnCl2 impregnation process Candellnut shell activatedcarbon, followed by pyrolysis process. variations in the concentration used ZnCl2 2.5; 7.5;10; 15; 30%, pyrolysis temperature 450, 500, 550oC with a 90, 120 and 180 minutes. Thetesting result of iodine absorption showed the greatest results using ZnCl2 10%,temperature 4500C, for 2 hours. Without and with Candellnut shell impregnation alsoaffect the outcome of Thermal Gravimetry Analysis which use traditional impregnationwith a shift during pyrolysis temperature, operation time is marked by the occurrence ofmass loss. Shifting patterns of functional groups were analyzed using Fourier TransformInfra Red to CH aliphatic, aromatic CH, OH bond, the C=H, CN bond and the C=O. Theresult analysis of activated carbon after impregnation with Teller Brunauer Emmettmethode obtained 589 m2/g of surface area.

Abstract

Rice husk and natural bentonite as well as virgin HDPE were used as rawmaterials to form composite. The aim of study is to know the effect of rice husk and naturalbentonite ratio as filler and the percentage of polyethylene-graft-maleic anhydride(MAPE) as coupling agent on quality of formed composites. The composite formationprocess was done by application of hot press method at 170 oC for 30 minutes. Afterheated and pressed then composites was cooled to room temperature and finallycomposites were tested its mechanical properties of tensile strength and bending strength.The results showed that addition of natural bentonite into matrix of rice husk can increasemechanical properties of composite compared to composites prepared by using only ricehusk and virgin HDPE. The amount of added MAPE affect values of tensile and bendingstrength of composites. The addition of MAPE and natural bentonite on formation ofcomposites caused the increasing adhesion bond between matrix and filler and as a resultalso increased the mechanical properties of composites. On ratio ofrice husk and naturalbentonite of 70:30 with addition of 5 wt% MAPE was obtained the highest tensile strengthvalue of 18.2 MPa and the highest bending strength value of 9.2 MPa.

Abstract

The study of the characterization of robusta coffee powder (Coffea robusta)from various quality of green bean coffee had been carried out. The study aimed to getdata and information of charracteristics of robusta coffee powder from various quality ofraw material. The study applied completely randomized design with quality category ofgreen bean as treatment (T1, T2 and T3). Parameters observed were moisture, ash content,ash alkalinity and coffee extract. The result showed that the water contents were 3.4-4.3%(w/w), ash content of 2.9-7.7% (w/w), ash alkalinity of 40-64 mlNaOH/100 g and coffeeextract of 24-54% (w/w). Compare with quality requirements of SNI 01-3542-2004, thecoffee powder from green bean category of T1 and T2 fulfill the quality standard for allparameters tested. Whereas the coffee powder of T3 green bean quality category had toohigh ash content, those were 5.9-7.7% (b/b), at SNI standard requires the maximum ashcontent of 5%.

Abstract

Lignin has been isolated from black liquor with acidification by using H2SO410% on pH 2. In this condition obtained uniform precipitation and acidification avoiduneven. The lignin obtained will have similarity to functional groups of Indulin-ATstandard lignin, which is a three-dimensional polymer containing aromatic methoxylgroups, phenolic hydroxyl and aldehyde groups. Lignin has properties insoluble in waterand soluble in alkaline. Chromium (VI) is one of toxic heavy metals which is so soluble inwater that can be distributed to the aquatic environment. The purpose of this study isassessing the potential of lignin to removal of Cr(VI), while the focus of the study atdifferent pH and lignin concentration The results showed that the pH of the mixturesolution of lignin and Cr( VI ) is 2, a 25 mL of 2000 ppm lignin was able to removal to85.83% Cr(VI) from a 10 mL Cr(VI) initial concentration of 25 ppm to 1.012 ppm. Theaddition of lignin concentration at pH < 5 increase to removal of Cr(VI) due to adsorptionand coprecipitation process through occlusion mechanism, whereas at pH > 5, theaddition of lignin concentration will raise Cr(VI) removal in relatively small scale, if wecompared to pH < 5 as coprecipitation did not happen in line with lignin dissolution.

Abstract

Extraction and Identification on oleoresin of Gelugur Acid has beenconducted, identifying research oleoresin of Gelugur Acid (Garcinia atroviridis Griff ex T.Anders) aims to find out how to extract oleoresin by using alcohol solvents with differentvariations of the extraction using alcohol 30%, 70% and 95%. Oleoresin extractionresults obtained information that the higher the concentration of alcohol will resulted in ahigher oleoresin obtained. At these identification was also obtained information about thecontent of organic acids such as ascorbic acid at 51 mg / kg; tartart acid 35 mg / kg; malicacid 28 mg / kg and 10.2 mg citric acid / kg. Essential oil yield of gelugur acid of0.3529% b/b, with the physicochemical properties of the specific gravity of 0.9244 b/v,1.4929 refractive index, solubility in 90% alcohol, clear in 1:1 (1 part oil: 1 parts ofalcohol); acid number of 3.8148 and ester numbers of 10.098.

Abstract

Oil palm trunk will have been farming waste contain fibre (vascularbundles) and powder (parenchym), to be able advantage of sources of fibers and starch.Fibers of vascular bundles from oil palm trunk can be obtained by degradation oil palmtrunk against time with long duration. Or can be obtained from separation vascularbundles and parenchym by mechanization. The process of making wood pulp palm oil(palm stem vascular bundles) conducted by the soda. Cooking-I, by cooker with 1,5%NaOH solution for 2 hours. Cooking-I is to reduce lignin content on the network vascular,so that consumption and subsequent concentration of the solution cookers to reduced, inorder to ovoid damage to ripening fibers. Yield of cooking-I is 78%. Cooking-II, by cookerpressure vessels with a solution of 3% NaOH at temperatur 146oC (4,2 atm) for 4 hours.And next, expected penetration into the fiber network solution cooking to vascular fibers.Yield of cooking-II is 73%. Pulp from the cooking was washing free black liquor, bleachedand refined or blended. Characteristrics of paper from fibers vascular bundles are : Width = 0,2821 mm up to 0,4033 mm, Grammature = 78,3 gr/m2 up to 105,9 gr/m2, Tensilestrenght = 1,14 kN up to 1,40 kN, Tear strenght = 329,1 mN up to 378,9 mN, Index tensilestrenght = 0,0017 kN-m/gr up to 0,0257 kN-m/gr, Index tear strenght = 3,1418 mN-m2/grup to 4,8080 mN-m2/gr.
