Abstract

The research of pregelatinized sweet potato starch as a binder in tablet formulations has beenconducted. Pregelatinized starch prepared by heating sweet potato starch suspension with a concentrationof 30% in water at temperature 60, 65 and 70 oC. Pregelatinized starch were evaluated its flow propertiesand compressibility. The results showed the flow properties and compressibility were still lack. The test oftablet formulations are uniformity of weight, hardness, friability and disintegration time. The resultcompared to the Pharmacopoeia then Anova test. The result test met the requirements to Pharmacopoeiawhile Anova test there was a difference in terms of hardness, friability and disintegration time. Tablet withpregelatinized starch cooked at 70oC has a different value of hardness and brittleness with the other tabletsi.e. 4.5 kg/cm2 and 0.031%, While tablet with Star RX 1500 as binder has a different value of disintegrationtime from others 6.42 minutes.

Abstract

Potential nutmeg plant 10.918 ha are scattered in several districts in Maluku and one of themcontained in the Banda Islands, Central Maluku district. With natural potential so great but Small MediumEnterprise (SME) for the oil refinery of the nutmeg seed has not developed rapidly. Refining generally usewater as a solvent because more economically. Beside of the water solvent, solvent distillation process iscarried out with ether, hexane, toluene and methanol with a purpose to see the effect of the solvent on theyield of nutmeg essential oil produced. The method used in this study is refining the system soxhletation.Results of nutmeg oil refining, obtained yield of 10% for solvent ether, 16%, of solvent diethylether, 4.04%for the solvent hexane, 72.04% for the solvent toluene and 85% for the methanol solvent. Oil state testresults which include the color and odor of ether that is light yellow, slightly peculiar smell of nutmeg oil,diethyl ether to light yellow, slightly peculiar smell of nutmeg oil, hexane color to egg yolks, not the typicalsmell of nutmeg oil, for toluene color orange, not the typical smell of nutmeg oil and methanol brick redcolor, the smell is not typical nutmeg oil. As a comparison is refined with solvent water color is clear strawbrass,distinctive smell of nutmeg oil, as contained in nutmeg oil SNI test for this type of situation, namelythe color of colorless to pale yellow and the typical smell of nutmeg oil.

Abstract

Avocado seed oil has been used for the synthesis of polyurethane membrane, which is reactedwith 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate (HMDI). The main objective of this research is manufacture ofpolyurethane membranes from avocado seed oil, as a filter of this membrane use as a filter of metals fromwater such as mercury (Hg) etc.. Polyurethane membrane was synthesized by the crosslink method betweenHMDI and avocado seed oil. The results showed that the optimum ratio condition HMDI and avocado seedoil is 1.8: 5 (w/v). The result showed that flux value work at the optimum condition is 88 L/m2.h.bar, withrejection coefficient of 98.87%. Analysis with Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) showed that of functionalN-H group at 3314.996 cm-1, and did not reveal any FTIR of -NCO functional group at 2270 cm-1. Theabsence of absorption -NCO group proves membrane synthesis was successful. Mechanical tests andDifferential Thermal Analysis (DTA) showed that the membrane was the characteristics of a hard and rigid.Scanning Electron Microscope- Energy Dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX) assay showed that the membranesurface is not homogeneous and membrane capable for filtering heavy metals from water contaminatedwith mercury (Hg).

Abstract

The most of solid waste from palm oil refinery is Spent Bleaching Earth (SBE) with amount of1.5-3.0 from Crude Palm Oil (CPO) are processed. Generally utilizing SBE is to landfills. This researchwill be extraction of oil from the SBE with reflux method using hexane and its characterization. In thisresearch, the variable is a comparison between SBE:hexane (w/v), i.e. 1:2, 1: 3, 1: 4, 1: 6 and 1: 8, andreflux temperature at room temperature, 50, and 70 °C. On the extraction of oil with reflux temperature50 oC at all comparison SBE:hexane (w/v), the amount of oil which is obtained under 31,11%. While mostoil is obtained at a reflux temperature of 70 oC with a comparison of SBE:hexane (1: 8 (w/v)) which reached34.58%. Characteristic of oil contains free fatty acids 33,62%, moisture content 6.6%, impuirities 2.8%,iodine number 40.5 mg I2/100 g, and the number of peroxides 104,92 meq O2/kg. The characteristics of thiskind of oil, cannot be categorized as CPO and edible oil. However it is still possible to be utilized as rawmaterial for the soap, grease, lubricants, biodiesel and other oleochemicals products.

Abstract

Beluntas leaf (Pluchea indica L. Less) is one byproduct of the agriculture industry is knownas effective agents for efficacious as an appetite enhancer and aid digestion which is expected to spurgrowth. Since the old times, as plant Beluntas is considered have ability believed to reduce body odor,reduce heat and other benefits. Beluntas leaves can be used as a source of antioxidants, anti-stress, antibacterial,anti-cancer, lowering cholesterol, lowering fever, deodorizing fishy. This is due to Beluntascontaining amino acid (leucine, isoleucine, tryptophan, threonine), alkaloids, flavonoids, essential oils,chlorogenic acid, sodium, potassium, aluminum, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, vitamins A and C.This paper is a revision of some of the results of research that has been done on the potential and utilizationof industrial by products Beluntas leaves.

Abstract

A model of infrared dryer for drying post-harvest products was designed and tested. Infrareddryer is one of an alternative food tool which mostly used when the production process occur for dryingpost-harvest products to increase time efficiency and product quality. Infrared drying technology has highefficiency because its radiation go through inside area of molecule item without hot air mediator like theone in convection and conduction process. This tool is designed with 2 x 2 x 2 m of outer dimension whichhas one exhaust fan, two fans, two air holes, two shelves, one infrared dryer (gasolec), and one control tool.Drying capacity is about 36 kg/batch. In a test, dryed products were sliced cassava with thickness between1-2 mm as many of 12 kg/3 hour with 50 oC dan 60 oC temperature. The data were taken at four point insidedryer. At 50 oC drying temperature the moisture content of cassava were 12,28% at T1, 14,93 % at T2,18,70% at T3 and 20,62% at T4 while at 60 oC drying temperature, the moisture content of cassava were7,36% at T1, 14,57 % at T2, 11,30% at T3, and 17,05% at T4 with average elpiji consumption is1,5 kg/batch. RH value were stable between 40-50 %.

Abstract

Has been conducted research on the effects of electron beam irradiation on organic acids,amino acids and proximate analysis of dried ear mushroom (Auricularia auricula). Ear Mushroom is a typeof edible mushroom which is very popular with consumers, therefore, post-harvest handling in the form ofdried mushrooms is very important to maintain an economical agribusiness chain. Handling of driedmushroom with electron beam irradiation was performed. The purpose of this study was to determine theeffect of electron beam irradiation at a dose of 5 kGy to the content of organic acids (acid of propionate,acetate, butyrate, citrate, lactate, and oxalic acid) and proximate analysis of dried mushroom. The resultsshowed that irradiation at 5 kGy increase the content of citric acid and oxalic acid significantly lowered.While on amino acid and proximate analysis (moisture, fat, protein, and carbohydrates) as well as pH,water activity (aw) and density of dried mushroom, irradiation at a dose of 5 kGy relatively not change thevalue of amino acid as well as proximate analysis value as well as pH, aw and density of the fungus.
