Abstract

The objective of research were to evaluate grading up program of Boer buck and Ettawa grade goat (EGG) doe at Village Breeding Centre (VBC) Dadapan village, Sumberejo subdistrict, Tanggamus regency by studying growth performance EGG, Boerawa grade 1 (BG1), and Boerawa grade 2 (BG2). Survey method was used in this research. Recording for growth performance of 525 heads EGG, 450 heads BG1, and 175 heads BG2 possessed by Karya Makmur III farmer group that was member of the VBC. Variables observed were body weight and body measurements at birth, weaning, and yearling. Data was analysed by analysis for variance of Completely Randomized Design for one way lay out. Difference of mean were analysed by Duncant’s Multiple Range Test. The average of birth weight of EGG (2,79±0,66 kg) were lower than that of BG1 (3,22±0,64 kg), however that of BG1 were not different with BG2 (3,02±0,89 kg). The average of weaning weight of EGG (18,28±0,053 kg) were lower than that of BG1 (19,89±5,72 kg) however that of BG1 were not different with that of BG 2 (19,67±1,54 kg). The average of yearling weight of EGG (39,89±7,26 kg) were lower than that of BG1 however that of BG1(43,49±6,15 kg) were not different with BG2 (42,27±2,12 kg). The absolute preweaning and postweaning average daily gain (ADG) of EGG, BG1, and BG2 were not different. Relative preweaning ADG of EGG (7,95±0,69%) were higher (P<0.05) than that of BG1 (3,57±0,14%) and BG2 (4,77±0,64%) however that of BG1 were not different with BG2. Relative postweaning ADG of EGG (0,60±1,31%) were higher than that of BG1 (0,37±0,01%) and BG2 (0,43±0,07%). Average of postweaning ADG of BG1 and BG2 were different (P<0.05). Its conclusion that growth performance of BG2 have not optimum.

Abstract

A research has been done to study the effectiveness of Zorlesco extender and modified Zorlesco extender with soymilk to maintain sperm fertility of landrace boar preserved at 18˚C. Semen was collected twice a week by hand massage from 2 heads of ± 2.5 years old landrace boar. A Completely Randomized Design with 4 treatments and 5 replications was used to organized the experiment. The fresh evaluated semen were extended with zorlesco P(0), zorlesco + hand made soymilk P(1), zorlesco + MetabolisTM soymilk P(2), and zorlesco + MelileaTM soymilk P(3). Extended semen were preserved at 180C. Analysis of variance and Duncan test were used to analyzed data of motility and viability of sperm. The result showed that the modification of diluent Zorlesco added with 5% soymilk could not defend by sperm motility and viability spermatozoa compared with Zorlesco for 42 hours storage (P<0.05).Keyword: Soymilk, modified zorlesco, sperm motility, sperm viability, landrace boar

Abstract

This studyaimedtodetermine the extent ofthe influence ofthe number of chickensper litteronthe performanceof laying hensstrain IsaBrown onstarter periodandhow manychickens thatproduce thebestperformance ofbrooderwitha diameter of4meters.The research methodusedexperiment was acompletely randomized design(CRD) with3treatments, namelythe number of chickens500 heads(K1), 750heads(K2), and 1000heads (K3) perbrooderof each treatment was 9 replication. Parameters observed that feed consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion, water consumption, and mortality. Effect of treatment performed by analysis of variance and if the analysis showed a significant effect followed by Duncan's multiple range test. Increasing the number of chickens per flock artificial influenced of reducing body weight gain and increasing water intake, but had no effect on feed intake, feed conversion, and mortality. Good performance of chickens obtained from the amount of 750 per brooder chicken (K2) was shown with body weight gain approaching recommendation Guide Isa Brown (2005).Keywords: brooder, the performance of laying hens, the starter period

Abstract

The aimed of this study was to evaluate the results of extension in local ducks maintenance based on duck and rice intensification method at Farmers Group Sabar Subur Kwarasan, Gaum, Tasikmadu, Karanganyar. The data was collected by using questionnaires. Pretest and posttest data were analyzed by the Wilcoxon test to determine the differences in the level of knowledge and attitudes before and after extension. The results showed that extension quite effective in improving farmers' knowledge in terms of understanding the duckling maintenance management based duck and rice intensification method.Keywords: duck and rice intensification method, maintenance, male local ducks, extension

Abstract

This research was conducted to know the effect of different concentrations addition of Tiwai onion extract (Eleutherine americana Merr) on chemical composition, physical, organoleptical quality, and Vitamin C content of nugget from Gallus turcicus meat. There were four treatments in this experiment, 1) without Tiwai onion extract (TOE), 2) level of 5 % TOE, 3) level of 10 % TOE, 4) level of 15 % TOE. The variable were observed of chemical composition (water, fat, and ash content), physical quality (pH and cooking loss) and sensoric quality (colour, taste, tenderness, texture and acceptability). Chemical composition and physical quality were analysed by ANOVA, when the different between means were tested by Least Significant Difference Test. Sensory characterictic quality were analysed by hedonic test of Kruskal and Wallis. Result showed that the addition of TOE up to 15 % affected significantly on water, fat, ash and vitamin C content (P<0.05). Addition of TOE was also affected significantly (P<0.05) onpH, cooking loss and all organoleptical quality except acceptability. Result showed that the addition of TOE up to 15 % increasing water, fat, ash and vitamin C content. Addition of TOE up to 15% decreasing physical quality (pH and cooking loss). Organoleptical quality taste, flavor, texture and tenderness increased but colour was decrease compare to control. Nugget by addition EBT up to 15 % still acceptable for panelis.Key words: nugget, Eleutherine americana Merr extract, chemical composition, physical quality, organoleptical quality, vitamin C content

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of psychographic characteristics toward the job achievment of poultrymen at medium scale broiler company in the Tempel District. The respondent was determined by judgement method. The number respondents were about 30 poultrymen whose at least 1 year experience to work. The measurement of psychographic characteristics consists motivation to achieve, perseption of work level and perception of salary based on Likert scale. The achievement of poultrymen were measured by the feed convertion ratio and the mortality of broilers kept by poultrymen. The analysis of psychographic characteristics influence toward job achievement was binomial logistic regression analysis. The results showed that poultrymen had high achievement motivation at 66.67%, middle motivation 30%, low motivation 3.33%. The poultrymen perception about job status, that were about 50% for high and 50% for low level. They also had perception about fair wages that is about 64% and 36 for unfair wages. The poultrymen job achievement were about 66.67% for high level and 33.33% for low level. There was significantly(P≤0,05) between psychographic characteristics with the job achievement of poultrymen. The conclusion of this research were the higher psychographic characteristics these consist of motivation to achieve, perception of work level and perception of salary tended to have of high achievement of poultrymen.

Abstract

The objective of the study was to evaluate the impact of feed technology on changing of milk and feed price, and also its impact on efficiency of feed technology in dairy farm. In this study, fifteen lactating dairy cows were divided into 3 groups based on the feed technology. Production parameters measured were milk production and quality for 42 days, while economic parameters were milk and feed price. The highest milk production was produced by feed technology III which was Rp. 11,845 l/herd/day. The highest milk quality was resulted in by feed technology II with quality standard of fat 3.960%, SNF 8.312%, TS 12.272%, and milk density 1.029. Result showed that the lowest was by feed technology III, which was Rp. 1,143.80/l. Income Over Feed Cost (IOFC) showed that the use of feed technology III was more efficient than other feed technologies, which was Rp. 24,664.55/herd/day with the milk price of Rp. 4,207.55/l.Key words: Feed technology, milk production, milk quality, milk price, feed price

Abstract

The study was to examine the chemical composition and fiber components in various local feed sourced from native habitats and in cage. The research use 11 type of feed that rested on three types of feed native habitats (3 types of timber plants: Pometia pinnata, Pongamia pinnata, and Intsia bijuga and 8 types of feed from kuskus cage are three types of non wood plants: Ipomoea aquatic, Ipomoea batatas, and Brassicia spp., and five types of fruits: Carica papaya, Musa paradisiaca, Artocarpus integra, Averhoa carambala, Persea americana). Proximate and van Soest analysis was analized in the Feed and Nutrition Laboratory Fakultas Peternakan Perikanan dan Ilmu Kelautan Unipa, The laboratory of Forest Product Tecnology Fakultas Kehutanan Unipa, and BPT Ciawi, Bogor. The result showed that the type of feed sourced native habitats has a chemical compositions beter than that type of feed from captivity (cage). Besides higher fiber components contained on type of feed from his native habitat. These were consistent with research in Papua New Guinea that fibrous feed either need to overcome intestinal infleminations and possibly longer survival. The conclusions of this study were rear edin captivity possum that given the dominant feed fruits turned out to be given food from his native habitat because of higher potential for nutrient and fiber components.Key words: chemical composition, fiber components, feed, native habitats, captivity
