Abstract

Under Jokowi’s presidency, the BRI project was able to further strengthen the bilateral ties between Indonesia and China. This study aims to analyse and focus on: first, the pros and cons of Indonesia's interests in the BRI projects under Jokowi's presidency; second, the political leadership of Jokowi in managing and implementing BRI projects in Indonesia. This study used a qualitative approach to gather comprehensive data through a literature review. As an analytical tool for this research, the author used the political leadership theory by Kalevi Jaakko Holsti. The finding showed that, first, those who are pro-BRI will provide full support, supervision, and evaluation from year to year. Meanwhile, there are several cons to the BRI project due to fear of the debt trap, the influx of Chinese workers, the environmental damage, the overlapping maritime claims, anti-communist sentiment, and the image of Chinese products. The negative sentiment towards the BRI project can be eased with a soft-infrastructure approach that touches community (people-to-people) bonds. Second, regarding Jokowi's eight-year leadership, Jokowi's type of political leadership is more directed as a conciliator, especially in the China BRI project. It is based on Jokowi's record of making China a good partner and big brother.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of policies regarding the imposition of community activity restrictions during the pandemic in Ambon City. The method used in this research is qualitative-descriptive with a retrospective policy analysis approach. The research results indicate that the implementation of community activity restrictions in Ambon City is not fully effective due to the mismatch between on-ground implementation and the regulations set by the government. Restrictions on community activities that impact the reduction of human contact intensity in public spaces and the use of masks are not new, and humans have endeavoured to implement these measures when dealing with similar cases like the Spanish Flu and COVID-19 in two different periods. Observing the repeating patterns of major cases that are highly likely to occur again in the future, the model of implementing restrictions on community activities, with its refinements, can be considered an example of controlling emergency problems of epidemic outbreaks and other health disasters with rapid spread and highly destructive impacts.

Abstract

Tourism has an important role in the country's economic growth, but its impact on the environment and culture often attracts attention. Therefore, sustainable tourism policies in Indonesia are the focus of the Indonesian government. This research aims to analyze and evaluate the implementation of sustainable tourism policies in Indonesia. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. The research results show that the implementation of sustainable tourism policies in Indonesia involves the concept of protecting the environment, improving people's quality of life, and strengthening destination competitiveness. This policy covers waste management, renewable energy, and protection of flora and fauna. Sustainable tourism also contributes to job creation, cultural preservation, and local community participation. Destination competitiveness is enhanced by environmentally friendly infrastructure and the promotion of responsible tourism. The sustainability of natural and cultural heritage is a focus, such as in Komodo and Borobudur National Parks. Partnerships between government, society and the tourism industry are the basis, while technological innovation supports sustainability. Even though there are challenges, joint efforts are expected to be able to overcome obstacles to realizing sustainable tourism in Indonesia.

Abstract

This article describes the political contestation of territorialization between conventional and online transportation services in pursuing space in the tourism industry in Bali. This article utilized an institutionalism-constructivist theoretical approach. The method is a qualitative approach with data collection by observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that the tourism industry in Bali has encouraged new space for actors pursuing political and economic interests, especially after the inclusion of online transportation in areas that are convenient for actors who operate behind conventional transportation services supporting tourism. They actively form new institutions against the dominance of online transportation services by creating their governance amid regulations. Under the cooperative institution, governance is run by actors who control the two modes of transportation services. They include regional tourism associations (Sanur, Kuta, Canggu, Ubud, and Nusa Dua), airports, hotels, villages, and terminals. These modes of transportation services negotiate their respective political and economic interests.
