MUDRA Jurnal Seni Budaya
AIMS The journal presents as a medium to share knowledge and understanding art, culture, and design in the area of regional, national, and international levels. In accordance with the meaning of the word “Mudra”, which is a spiritual gesture and energy indicator, it is hoped that the journal will be able to vibrate the breath of art knowledge to its audience, both academics, and professionals. The journal accommodates articles from research, creation, and study of art, culture, and design without limiting authors from a variety of disciplinary/interdisciplinary approaches such as art criticism, art anthropology, history, aesthetics, sociology, art education, and other contextual approaches. SCOPE MUDRA, as the Journal of art and culture, is dedicated as a scientific dialectic vehicle that accommodates quality original articles covering the development of knowledge about art, ideas, concepts, phenomena originating from the results of scientific research, creation, presentation of fine arts, performing arts and new media from researchers, artists, academics, and students covering areas of study: Performing Arts: dance, puppetry, ethnomusicology, music, theater,performing arts education, performing arts management Fine Arts: fine arts, sculpture, craft art, fine arts education,fine arts management, including new media arts Design: interior design, graphic communication design, fashion design,product design, accessories and/or jewelry design Recording Media : photography, film, television, documentary, video art, animation,game Culture : linguistic, architecture, verbal tradition, as well as other communal tradition The object of research is explored in a variety of topics that are unique, relevant, and contextual with environmental and sustainability aspects, local wisdom, humanity and safety factors. In addition to that, the topic of research needs to be original, creative, innovative, excellence, and competitive.

This article tries to discuss and analyze about the reality of global culture and its implication on traditional performance art. The subject matter of this analysis is the Pedungan Gambuh dance drama, a classical performance, previously a court/palace art, which is thought as the source of the Balinese music and dance drama. Data and facts presented here are drawn from our qualitative research entitled Stream of Pedungan Gambuh dance-drama in the surge of Global Culture. Our research suggests that Gambuh as an entertaining art has recently declined in the rapid flow of Global Culture.

This is a report of research findings regarding the lore of traditional clothing/costume in Bali Aga village in terms of its form, function, and meaning, along with its transformation in dance creativity. This is recently developed in the villages of Tenganan Pegringsingan and Asak Karangasem, where the art is inherited from one generation to another generation. The developed form of clothing in the traditional village of Bali Aga is distinctively unique, i.e. the featuring form is stimulated by the mutual support between the function and the meaning. In addition to featuring the aesthetic form, the clothing lore also reflects the meaning. This is possible due to the fact that the selected form does not only cater to the aesthetic deliberation, but he content reflects worthy and interesting symbolic values.

The goal of this article is to reinforce the existence of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), by promoting a multicultural awareness and essential understanding of national diversity or heterogeneity. Every sort of culture and the living method stand in the same level. Therefore, there is no more cultural superiority and cultural inferiority. Attempt to appreciate every single ethnic art throughout the country must be a priority in keeping the existence of the ethnicity and appreciating the local culture. However, this racial protection must not create exclusive attitude that trivializes or undermines other tribal culture. Every single tradition or tribal culture in Indonesia has its own distinctive meaning and relevant value that contribute toward solving problems of the local people.

statue work of art produced by artists at the village of Silakarang is traditional work of art this is raised as a problem highlighting the existence and impact of traditional statue work of art produced by statue artists in the village of Silakarang. The aims of this study are to see the development traditional statue work of art and its existence if compared with modern statue. This study took twenty kinds consisting for sample of 10 traditional statue and 10 modern statue and 30 respondent of stone carver who were divided into three groups, group A,B, and C. They were all used as sample using “ Purposive Sampling”. Data collection used observation technique, interview, documentation, and library research. The study employed descriptive analysis, that is, analysis technique analyzing the existence of traditional status work of art in four aspects: form, function, significance and marketing and analysis with impact; esthetic, social and culture, economic, and environmental.

This article examines the important of appreciating the paintings of A.A. Gede Sobrat, due to the interesting form, theme, and function of the painting. The work of this painter has its distinctive characteristic that is well known and has enhanced the artistic level of Bali and Indonesia in painting. Anak Agung Gede Sobrat obtained inspiration from Walter Spies and R. Bonnet, although Sobrat previously focused on Balinese traditional painting. His encounter with Walter Spies and R. Bonnet provides artistic ideas in painting arts. The author wishes to understand the form, function, and meaning of the artistic exploration of Anak Agung Gede Sobrat.

local knowledge or invented tradition has to be related (“suturing”) to the globalization occurring these days. As a traditional capital, it has to be supported in the field of cultural studies. Using an example of tri hita karana in Bali, with its natural-human-religious relations, such knowledge is none other than a new paradigm called relational epistemology. A postmodern cultural studies, through the epistemology and its binary-opposition way, tries to ignore every opposition and contradiction in the modern life (modernity).

Woman is the main part of human life. People often talk about woman that is very much concerned in the community. However, woman can not be positioned trivially without respecting her own dignity and prestige. Woman ought to be positioned at a special honor, merit, and harmonious role. Woman should not be discredited, but empowered according to her proportional and natural feminine characteristic. In Hindu literatures, woman is described in several manuscripts like Manawadharmasastra, Itihasa, especially the epics of Mahabharata, Ramayana and other literatures.
