Abstract

This paper delineates the assessed alignment between the Maltese government’s policy for the further education sector (FE) and FE organizations’ missions. Since alignment is multifaceted, a complementarity blended approach was used to help uncover its complexities. Data were collected from seven FE vocational and academic organizations via questionnaires to academic staff; interviews with principals and other internal and external stakeholders; content analysis of mission statements. Data showed that there is only moderate alignment between organizational mission and government policy with large vocational organizations displaying more alignment with such policies.The use of a complementarity blended method may be useful to explain educational alignment in other small states. Short bureaucratic distances are not a guarantee of alignment.

Abstract

Consumption ritual gains more attention in consumer behavior study since the trend of ethnic market is ascending for its theoretical enrichment in this topic as well as for its business opportunity. Using ethnography approach, this research aims to reveal the consumption ritual in Javanese wedding ceremony in Kabupaten Ngawi. It explores the common season of Javanese wedding ritual, the sequence of the Javanese wedding ritual, what the consumers have in mind, and what the things needed to arrange such Javanese wedding ritual. In conclusion, Javanese people indeed have seasonal marriage time based on their unique calendar system; besides, it also have diverse sequence from one to another region. Yet, the needs to arrange Javanese wedding ritual are almost similar among regions. Furthermore, the consumer’s perspective in Javanese wedding ritual ends on some interpretations about the meaning of this ritual for them. Besides the theoretical enrichment in consumer behavior, this ritual involves huge resources that will be a market opportunity that the business practitioners may take this advantage.

Abstract

Lack of consumer willingness to adopt electronic toll card in Jakarta triger the congestion at the toll gates. This congestion has been one of the critical factors that needs to be more focused by PT Jasa Marga as  highway toll service company. The fact shows that only 5.88% of all the total transactions in the toll gates applied E-toll card facility. These facts provide evidence about the lack of consumer willingness to adopt E-Toll card. Therefore, the understanding of consumer behavior to adopt sevice innovation is necessary to solve these lack of consumer unwillingness. This study was developed by replicated the research of Lee (2012) that reveal the antecedents factors that affect the consumer intention to adopt service innovation. Respondents of this research were 217 students from a private university in Tangerang. Respondent were collected by using judgemental sampling based on their experience in using E-toll card. The survey instrument employed demographic background, consumer attitude, perceived ease of use, perceived price fairness, satisfaction with existing service, fashion consciousness, risk averseness and consumer intention to adopt service innovation. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was applied to analyze the data. Result indicated that consumer attitude, perceived ease of use, satisfaction with existing service, risk averseness, and fashion consciousness are the predictors of consumer intention to adopt service innovation. This research also provides the theoretical implication, managerial implication, and suggestion for future research.

Abstract

The originality of this research is to apply the grand theory of social capital and social exchange theory to a discussion of the strategy of collaboration and networking among companies in knowledge obtaining on companies in Indonesia and China. The comparison between the two countries is based on the perspective of institutional theory and culture paradigm, whereby the firms in both countries have a specific difference. This research resulted in the proposition that (1) Organizational trust is a variable that affects the strategy of collaboration and networking for knowledge obtaining between firms, (2) There is collaboration and networking for knowledge obtaining between companies in Indonesia and China, (3) there are differences in terms of organizational trust collaboration and networking for knowledge obtaining between companies in Indonesia and China. Limitations of this study are, this is the study with limited to an assessment and conceptual literature excavation that remains to be proved further by research in the field.

Abstract

The majority of the Indonesian population is Muslims. However, the market share of Islamic Banking is only 3.0% of total banks in Indonesia.This shows that the products and services offered by these Islamic banks were not optimally taken up by the Muslim community. Are service qualities and satisfaction (provided by the bank) unattractive things for Muslim? Therefore, the research was done.  The aims of the study are to analyze the service quality that directly and indirectly affects the satisfaction of moslem customers’ loyalty and the satisfaction as mediator toward Islamic bank. The study was conducted in the town of Malang with 315 respondents. The Purposive Sampling technique was used on Islamic banks in Malang. The data was analysed descriptively and inferentially by means of using SEM and the Smart-PLS. The finding from the inference analysis showed that all relations among the variables have significant influence, both directly and indirectly, and satisfaction as an intervening variable has a positive impact. Therefore, Islamic banks should give special attention to the quality of service guarantee to their customer. In addition, banks must also increase their quality service in order to make/ give more satisfaction and convenience. These findings have given new input to the theories of existing consumer behavior. The findings of this study can be used as a guide for other researchers in developing a model of consumer behavior and customer loyalty, particularly in terms of Islamic measurement model.

Abstract

Tendency to ex-prisoners back into previous environment after being released from the detention center is a phenomenon that raises a big question. Although training programs have become routine activities provided by the government every year and inmates are trained in various skills in preparation for their after-free, some still choose to return to the criminal world.  Empirical studies show that there are two main causes, namely (1) the training program is given to make them skilled workers that after they acquire freedom no company will hire former prisoners, (2) there are constraints such as capital and knowledge emerge as for those starting and running a business. A new approach is necessary for construction problems. This study attempts to test the model of human resource development for former prisoners to prepare them for entrepreneurship. This study is the first step in testing the model of development of human resources for ex-prisoners to prepare them for entrepreneurship. In this study, the object to be examined is inmates of a prison in Banjarmasin. The data collection is done by filling in questionnaires, in-depth interviews to 150 inmates of their last year before the end of the period of detention, business confidence surveys, training and mentoring consultancy. The results from the test using MSC-T Miner questionnaire method showed 100 of the 150 prisoners have entrepreneurial potential. 100 people have been matched with their preferred business qualifications only 50 people who have interest in accordance with market rates. Intervention by the research team is to provide motivation and knowledge about entrepreneurship and personality development showed better results than before the intervention of the 50 inmates in preparing for entrepreneurship.

Abstract

The development of Islamic base banks in Indonesia in recent years show rapid growth. The main challenge for Islamic base banks is how to raise belief from the stakeholders. Stakeholder expectations of the Islamic banks is different from a conventional bank. Since, Islamic banks are built on basic principles of Islamic economics. Therefore, we need a tool to evaluate and measure the performance of Islamic base banks. Islamicity Performance Index is a method which can evaluate the performance of Islamic base banks not only their financial but also justice principles, halal (lawfulness), and tazkiyah (sanctification). There are six financial ratios which are measured from Islamicity Performance Index:profit sharing ratio, zakat performance ratio, equitable distribution ratio, directors-employees welfare ratio, Islamic investment versus non-Islamic investment ratio, Islamic income versus non-Islamic income. This research is intended to figure out the performance of Islamic base Bank in Indonesia based on Islamicity Performance Index. The samples are the Bank Muamalat Indonesia and Bank Syariah Mandiri. Sources of data are the financial reports of Bank Muamalat Indonesia and Bank Syariah Mandiri in 2009–2010 period.The results show that the financial performance of Islamic Base Bank in Indonesia during 2009-2010 period have ”quite satisfactory level of  valuation. However, there are two unsatisfactory ratios. They are zakat performance ratio and director-employee welfare contrast ratio. It shows that zakat issued by the Islamic base bank in Indonesia is still low and the contrast of the director-employee welfare is still huge.

Abstract

For decades, there were many models explaining the returns earned emerged in order to fulfil the curiosity had by human. Since then, various studies and empirical findings in many countries’ stock market showedthat the empirical findings of market return explanation and the return of assets meet the different results in both clarify of model and identification of significant determinant variables.Therefore, many comparative studies between models were accomplished. In this study, the author attempts to do comparative study between two models, APT and CAPM, in Indonesian Capital Market during period 2008 until 2012.  Besides, the author also attempts to find how much inflation, interest rate, and exchange rate describe the returns earned in each sector existed in Indonesia Capital Market. As the result, the author find out that CAPM has bigger explanation power than APT in Indonesian Capital Market during period 2008-2012. Besides, the author also found that among macroeconomic factors, there are only two macroeconomic factors that can affect certain samples significantly.  They are change in BI rate, which affect AALI, ANTM, ASII, TLKM, UNTR, and change in exchange rate, which affect INDF and TLKM significantly.

Abstract

As a tourist destination, Bali relies on its culture, which includes socio-cultural activities and the architectural form of the traditional Balinese house inspired by the Hindu Balinese religion, as the main core to attract tourists. The increasing number of tourist arrivals has motivated people to transform their traditional houses become tourist facilities to improve their economic condition. The traditional house-compound becomes a home-based enterprise with the construction of new buildings in their house. This construction has changed the setting, spaces and forms of the house, which are components of an architectural identity. This phenomenon encourages questions about the new relationship between a home-based enterprise and an architectural identity. Is there a conflict between a home-based enterprise as a strategy to gain an economic benefit and an architectural identity as an expression of Balinese culture? Is there an interdependent relationship between them? By examining the setting, forms and transformation process of the traditional Balinese house, this study discusses the continuity of an architectural identity alongside home-based enterprises in the physical transformation of tourist villages. In tourist villages, the architecture identity and home-based enterprise have an interdependent relationship where the architectural identity is an asset to attract tourists and, by running tourist facilities as home-based enterprises, the Balinese people maintain the architectural identity of their houses.

Abstract

The following report is conducted to analyse global tobacco industry and evaluate the initiatives taken by the industry to promote sustainable business development. The purpose of the overall assessment of tobacco industry and sustainability is to determine the level of commitment that the industry gives to undertake issues addressed in sustainability. The elements discussed in this report outlined several key issues including the general outlook of the current industry operation as well as in the long run, damages caused by the industry activity affecting social, health and environmental conditions and Industry’s actions prior to sustainability. The discussion of tobacco industry actions in particular further examines sustainable initiatives implemented in economic, social, health and environment sectors. Close evaluation is carried out prior to each sector analyzing the commitmentof the industry to justify how devoted it is to bring about sustainable business practices. The second part of the discussion draws a practical analysis by comparing the nine principles of Epstein’ssustainability performance and the success of HM Sampoerna Tbk PT (One of Indonesia’s largest tobacco companies) sustainability performance. This report however bears a set of limitations and drawbacks such as a lack of deeper evaluation on the industry's initiatives in all sectors but particularly the environment aspect as well as its in sufficiency of data collection
