Abstract

Vitamin C content in the ovarium of African Catfish (Clarias gariepinus) during reproductive cycle was investigated. One hundred twenty samples of females covering different stages of reproductive cycle were collected from fresh water ponds. The fishes were sacrifized and the ovarium were collected for analysis of gonad maturation stage (TKG), oocyt structure and vitamin C content in the ovarium.  Results indicated that average of vitamin C content of ovarium at stage I was 74.33mg/g (wet weight). The maximum content was found in stage III at level of 155.98mg/g (wet weight) and afterwards in the next stage vitamin C content decreased. The maximum of oocyt stadium 3 (oocyt vitelogenesis) was also found at this stage III. The findings indicate that vitamin C has a role in the reproductive cycle of catfish and its content is related to ovarium development and oogenesis.

Abstract

Ship is water vehicle with any shape and any purpose, mechanically powered or by windvor tug and categorized as a multipurpose platform. It could be operated underwater or in the surface of water and could function merely as a floating static structure.  The natural condition is the fish catching area are unpredictable as the wave an current of the water could disturbing the maneuverability and the stabilty of the ship. For that purpose the fish catching ship should have and meet the criterion of robust construction and strong structure to deal with the extreme condition in the sea and also should have a good maneuverability and enough power to make it move steadily. The total lenght of the sample ship Tersanjung are 15.85 m, the width are 2.90 m and inside the ship measured as 1.32 m. The average comparison among the 3 parameters are 5.50 for L/B, 13.05 for L/D and 2.37 for B/D. The coefficient of the Tersanjung ship are Cb=0.58, Cp=0.96, C =0.60 and Cw=0.87.  “Tersanjung” ship has reverse velocity 3.7 second (1 perod). Maximum rolling reaching at 120 with righting moment of 0.21 m.

Abstract

This research which aimed to identified and analyzed social capital of fisheries communities in Gangga dua village, North Monahasa District, has been conducted in 2007. Socio-culture data collected from fisheries community is consist of local value and local value system, local religious, pattern and system of production and reproduction and local politics. Data was collected by snowball sampling from community members who have deep knowledge about socio-culture of their community themselves. After data collected shown the socio-culture character of fisheries community then it has been analyzed to show the social capital typology. The research shows that fisheries community in Gangga Dua village still become closed community or has a characteristif of social capital bounding. Need a policy related to social structure improvement because of the social capital typology's of fisheries community in Pasauran village has been big influenced by various of economic aspect in economic activity of their life.

Abstract

Petromaks lights are often used by fishermen as fishing tools. Transmitting light petromaks much influenced by various factors such as fading (attenuation). The purpose of this paper is to understand the distribution of light transmitting petromaks and factors influencing it. The result showed that the illumination of light shade petromaks which light transmitting distance range  further  (± 8 m) than petromaks lights that are not covered (± 21 m). The constant fading (attenuation) of light is also greater (0.78) for light petromaks hooded lamp from the lamp to petromaks without hood (0:24).

Abstract

One of potential fishing grounds for small pelagic fish in Southeast Mallucas Regency is Rosenberg Strait waters. In this region, a study on the effect of different light intensities of floating lift net on fish catches was carried out. The analyses were done on light distribution of 4 light intensities different: Petromaks Lamp and Underwater Lamps of each 18 watt, 36 watt and 54 watt. This study showed that catches of floating lift net using different light intensities were statistically significantly different. The use of 36 watt and 54 watt underwater lamp yielded the same amount of catches but higher than that of 18 watt-underwater lamp and petromaks, both in number and species. Catches consisted of 17 species, 16 fishs and 1 mollusca. Number of species and size also varied with light intensity used. There were 13 fishs species dominated by Stolephorus indicus as much as 46.9 kg or 22% for petromaks catches, 14 fishs species dominated by Rastrelliger kanagurata as much as 64 kg (31%) for 18 watt underwater lamp, 17 fishs species dominated by Rastrelliger kanagurata as much as 76 kg (28%) for 36 watt underwater lamp, and 15 fishs species dominated by Stolephorus devisi as much as 54.8 kg (22%) for 54 watt underwater lamp, respectively. Based on the results, it is recommended that the use of light intensity in fishing operations of floating lift net should be 36 watt and 54 watt underwater lamps, due to high catches, both in number and species. Beside that, since light fishing has also caught illegal fish size, number of this fishing gear type should be controlled.

Abstract

Sponges have a potential to produce bioactive compounds. Their ability to do it since there is a symbiotic relationship with microorganisms in these bacteria. Because of this critical role, the bacteria symbiotic with sponge allegedly have great potential in terms of producing bioactive compounds that have been isolated from sponges (Lee, et al, 2001). In this study, using bacterial culture preparations isolated from the sponge, Acanthostrongylophora sp., the bacterial isolates were tested for their antibacterial activities using a well diffusion test. Based on the antibacterial activity test, the bacterial isolates known as BPO (shaped wavy white dots) and BPB (white threadlike have a certain type of thread) had antibacterial activity. ODS had a broad spectrum as potent against all three types of tested bacteria (Vibrio cholerae, Staphyloccocus aureus, Bacillus subtillis).

Abstract

Bottom trap have been used widely by coastal communities in North Sulawesi to catch coral fishes, since it simple in design, cheaper and easy to manage with a small boat. Unfortunately, the fishing practice of the traditional trap is usually conducted in destructive way, where fishermen cover the gear with live coral to attract fishing target.  Although the gear’s design has evolved over centuries, there is still potential for improving its catching efficiency and selectivity. An attempt to understand the fishing process of bottom trap should therefore be focused on bait and how its chemical composition, visual and physical properties may stimulate target species to attack the bait and captured. Addition of squid liver oil to the bait could increase the fishing power of bottom trap gear. But scientific information’s about its applications are not available yet. Therefore, the objective of this research was to study the effect of squid liver oil on bait of bottom trap toward the capture of coral fishes. This research was done in Bangka Strait North of Minahasa, based on experimental method. Six units of bottom trap (bamboo) were operated ten nights in collecting data; where tree units of them used scad mackerel bait that injected by squid liver oil, and tree other units just used scad mackerel bait without squid liver oil; and the capture data were analyzed by ttest. The catch was 117 fish in total consist of 2 genera; 74 fish was caught by scad mackerel bait with squid liver oil, and 43 fish was caught by bait without squid liver oil. Analysis of ttest show that t0= 8.908>t0.05; 5= 3.250; which means that the addition of squid liver oil on bait could increase the catch of bottom trap.

Abstract

The handling of fishery products play an important role in exploiting fisheries production, which began handling the treatment of fish caught, on board, when landed, the market-the market, retailers get to the processing plant.  Storage temperature of fish plays an important role when the fish die. the use of low temperatures around 0oC after dead fish can extend the seizures (rigor mortis), lower enzymatic activity, bacterial, chemical and physical changes that can prolong the durable power of fish. How to fish death during arrest have a major influence on the process begins and the end of rigor mortis is consequential to the quality and durable power of fish.  This study aims to determine the influence of how the death of fish on fish lasting power during cold storage. benefits of this research can provide information on the manner of death a good fish. Research results snapper fitness level based on organoleptic testing with scores ranging between 4.8 to 50 with an average rating of 50, 45.7, 38.5, 26.2 for treated fish were injected / gancu, 50, 38.1, 10, 5.4 for fish a dead flounder.  Research results snapper fitness level based on the value-K test is: 25.78% injection treatment / gancu, 48.99% hit with a wood treatment on the head and the dead fish flounder 50.34%.  Fish snapper (Lutjanus sp.) who was arrested dikaramba Likupang waters, the organoleptic and value-K is still suitable for consumption and for processing raw materials.
