Abstract

Oral health plays a crucial role in children’s growth and development, yet dental caries remains a common problem among preschoolers. Data collected at RA Al-Ikhlas Tuban revealed a high def-t score of 14.3%, indicating that preschoolers have limited knowledge of oral health. This is influenced by a lack of early education and the use of media that is not suitable for preschoolers. One example of a medium that can help improve children’s knowledge is the pop-up book; this medium is used because it features attractive, interactive three-dimensional visuals that can capture the attention of preschoolers. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of using pop-up books on oral health knowledge among preschoolers at RA Al-Ikhlas Tuban. The method used in this study was a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design employing a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The independent variable of the study was the use of pop-up books as a medium for oral health education, and the dependent variable was the level of knowledge of preschool children regarding oral health. Sampling in this study used the total sampling technique, with a total sample size of 43 respondents. Data were collected using questionnaires administered before and after oral health education using pop-up books. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results of the study indicate that the use of pop-up books has a positive effect on improving knowledge of oral health. The average knowledge score after the intervention was higher than before the intervention, with a significant p-value of 0.00 (p < 0.05). Pop-up books were found to be effective in helping preschool children understand oral health material because the information is presented in a more visual, engaging, and easy-to-understand manner. Based on the research results, it was concluded that the use of pop-up books has an effect on improving oral health knowledge among preschool children at RA Al-Ikhlas Tuban.

Abstract

Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is the most common spinal deformity among adolescents and may negatively affect physical and psychosocial well-being. Brace treatment is widely used to prevent curve progression; however, treatment success largely depends on patient compliance. Evidence examining the relationship between brace compliance, spinal correction, and quality of life in adolescents with AIS remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of brace compliance on Cobb angle, height change, and quality of life in adolescents with AIS. A quasi-experimental longitudinal study was conducted among 50 female adolescents aged 13 to 18 years with Cobb angles of 20° to 35° at the Orthotic and Prosthetic Clinic Mojokerto, Indonesia. Participants underwent brace treatment for three months. Mean wear time was 16.3 ± 3.4 hours/day. Brace compliance was assessed using a structured questionnaire, while quality of life was evaluated using the PedsQL Scoliosis Module. Cobb angle and height measurements were performed before and after treatment. The results demonstrated a significant mean Cobb angle reduction of 2.6° after treatment (p < 0.001). Higher brace compliance was associated with greater Cobb angle reduction (p = 0.003) and better quality of life scores (p < 0.001). However, no significant correlation was found between brace wear duration and height change (r = 0.11; p = 0.42). In conclusion, brace compliance significantly improved spinal curve correction and quality of life in adolescents with AIS. Strategies to improve brace adherence are essential to optimize conservative treatment outcomes. Keywords: adolescent idiopathic scoliosis; brace compliance; cobb angle; quality of life; conservative treatment

Abstract

Breast engorgement is a common early‑postpartum condition caused by excessive milk accumulation that exceeds the breast’s storage and drainage capacity. The resulting swelling and pain may obstruct milk ducts and increase the risk of mastitis. Red onion (Allium ascalonicum), containing allicin and quercetin, has been traditionally used for its antimicrobial and anti‑inflammatory properties, yet its effectiveness in topical form during early lactation remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of breast care and oxytocin massage using red onion oil in reducing breast engorgement during postpartum days 1 and 2. A one‑group repeated‑measurement experimental design was conducted among 30 postpartum mothers recruited through purposive sampling. The intervention consisted of breast care and oxytocin massage using 1% red onion oil diluted in virgin coconut oil, applied once daily for 15 minutes on postpartum days 1 and 2. Breast engorgement was assessed using the Breast Engorgement Scale before intervention and monitored for ten days. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and Chi‑Square tests (α = 0.05). In results, on day 1, 43.8% of mothers experienced breast engorgement, increasing to 64.3% on day 2. Statistical analysis showed no significant association between the intervention and reduction in breast engorgement (p = 0.261). The findings align with the physiological peak of lactogenesis II, during which milk production increases sharply and short‑duration topical therapy is insufficient to alter engorgement. In conclusion, breast care and oxytocin massage using red onion oil did not significantly reduce breast engorgement during the first two postpartum days. The intervention cannot be recommended as a standalone preventive measure for early engorgement; evidence‑based lactation management remains essential. Keywords: breast engorgement; red onion oil; oxytocin massage; postpartum; lactation

Abstract

ABSTRACTChanges in serum levels of glutamate-oxaloacetate transaminase (SGOT) and glutamate-pyruvate transaminase (SGPT) may indicate liver problems resulting from prolonged exposure to pesticides. The village of Sendangrejo in Sleman Regency is an agricultural area where pesticide spraying takes place, which may increase the risk of exposure for farmers. However, information regarding the association between pesticide exposure levels and serum SGOT and SGPT levels among farmers in this area remains limited. The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between pesticide exposure levels and serum SGOT and SGPT levels among farmers in Sendangrejo Village, Sleman Regency. This was an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design. A total of 30 farmers were selected as participants using purposive sampling. Pesticide exposure levels were measured using a questionnaire covering work duration, spraying frequency, and compliance with guidelines for the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Serum SGOT and SGPT levels were measured using a clinical chemistry analyzer (Thermo Scientific Indiko) via the enzymatic-kinetic method, and data analysis was performed using the Spearman rank correlation test. The results showed that there was no significant association between duration of work, spraying frequency, or compliance with PPE usage guidelines and serum SGOT and SGPT levels (p > 0.05).Keywords: Liver Function; Pesticide Exposure; Farmers;  SGOT; SGPTABSTRAKPerubahan pada kadar serum glutamate-oxaloacetate transaminase (SGOT) dan glutamate-pyruvate transaminase (SGPT) dapat menjadi tanda adanya masalah pada hati akibat paparan pestisida dalam waktu yang lama. Abstract

Pressure injuries are a common complication among mechanically ventilated ICU patients because prolonged immobilization and impaired tissue perfusion make the skin highly susceptible to damage. Conventional repositioning may destabilize critically ill patients, creating interest in gentler alternatives such as micromovement. The objective of this case report was to describe the application of micromovement repositioning in a mechanically ventilated ICU patient and to observe its effects on skin integrity, Braden Scale scores, and hemodynamic stability. A 67‑year‑old male with pneumonia, NSTEMI, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes mellitus underwent hourly 15° lateral tilting for three days, accompanied by daily assessments of sacral skin condition, PI risk, and hemodynamic parameters. The sacral lesion remained stable without enlargement or tissue loss, skin moisture was preserved, and the Braden Scale score improved from 10 to 12. Hemodynamic parameters stayed within normal limits throughout the intervention, indicating good tolerance. In conclusion, micromovement helped maintain skin integrity and did not cause physiological instability, suggesting its potential as a safe complementary strategy for pressure injury prevention in critically ill patients. Keywords: micromovement; pressure injury; intensive care unit; mechanical ventilation; Braden Scale; skin integrity

Abstract

Sistematik review literatur dilakukan mengikuti pedoman Preferred for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analysis (PRISMA).
