Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the implementation of the experimental method in science learning and the obstacles faced by teachers, as well as to identify the application of pre-lab in science learning. Research design was survey which is non-experimental quantitative research. The participants were 26 teachers who teach subjects in the sciences, namely Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Science as integrated subjects. Data were collected through online questionnaires using google forms and were analyzed descriptively. The results show that experimental activities have not been fully applied to science learning. Most teachers provide the tools and materials needed in learning activities in the laboratory and provide work procedures to students. The constraints that are faced by teachers in applying the experimental method are related to facilities and infrastructure, student characters, and experiment time allocation. Most of the teachers have also carried out pre-lab activities, but they are still dominated by lectures from the teacher. This study also explored the pre-lab model to be developed, almost all teachers agreed if the pre-lab was developed in the form of virtual learning. The forms of media that teacher’s interest in for pre-lab activities are videos and android applications

Abstract

Research has been carried out with a device to observe the phenomenon of Rayleigh Benard convection, made of a glass box bounded by a lower plate and an upper plate. The bottom plate is hotter than the top plate which functions to heat the horizontal fluid layer from below. This study aims to observe the phenomenon of water molecule movement. The observation medium was water mixed with teak sawdust as a representation of water particles with an average density of mean=0.99 g/cm3. The variation of water thickness (d) used 5 cm and 6 cm with variations in temperature difference (DT) with an average increase of 50°C. Data was collected with a cellphone camera and run with Windows Movie Maker software which has a time accuracy of up to 0.001 seconds. It was observed that an increase in the temperature difference (DT) between the two plates resulted in an increase in the velocity of motion of water particles in convection which is depicted by a v-DT diagram. Due to the difference in temperature (DT) also results in the movement patterns of water molecules, namely laminar and turbulent. The turbulent phase with the Rayleigh number value R~107, indicated that the flow of water particles is getting faster, the direction of the flow of the particles starts to become irregular and sometimes signs of a water vortex appear. At different fluid immersion results in the start of a turbulent phase. The turbulent phase for d=5cm is observed at DT~30°C, and d=6cm at DT~20°C. Furthermore, this RBC phenomenon is used as a representation of learning natural phenomena in air fluids, namely whirlwinds as an event due to differences in temperature and pressure of a fluid

Abstract

This article reports on the validity of CTL-based physics e-books and the effectiveness of media developed for student problem-solving skills. This research is development research and uses a quantitative approach. The subjects of this research were 17 students of class X science class and 26 students of class X social class at one of the senior high schools in Yogyakarta as the implementation class and modeling classes. The results of this study indicate that the development of a CTL-based physics e-book on simple harmonic oscillation material is feasible in terms of expert validation results where the average total validation score is 3.75 with a very high category. The use of a CTL-based physics e-book in the learning process is able to have a significant influence on improving the problem-solving skills of students in both classes, which is indicated by the value of sig. (2-tailed) of 0.00 both for modeling and implementation classes which are smaller than the alpha value of 0.05.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to know the effectiveness of the ICARE learning model in improving students' critical thinking skills and collaboration skills. The type of research conducted in this research was classroom action research. In this study, there were three stages of data collection namely planning, implementation and data analysis which were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The research instrument used was a critical thinking skill test in essay form, an observation sheet for teacher and student activities in learning, a teacher ability observation sheet, a student response sheet and an observation sheet for students’ collaboration skills. The result showed that ICARE learning model was effective in improving students' critical thinking skills and collaboration skills. The result of students' responses to the ICARE learning model were also very positive. This positive response showed that students were very enthusiastic about the learning presented and make it easier for students to understand the material.

Abstract

One alternative source of learning physics can be a project-based practicum module with a virtual laboratory, especially for increasing student creativity. The purpose of this research is to develop a valid, practical, and effective project-based electronics practicum module with a virtual lab. The validity of the module is obtained from the validation results by three validators, namely content experts, learning experts, and media experts. The practicality of the module is obtained by giving response questionnaires to one lecturer in an electronics course and 12 students in semester 5A of the Physics Education study program. The effectiveness of the module is obtained by giving a project that can increase students’ creativity. The developed module is very valid with an average validity of 3.70. The developed module is very practical with average practicality of 3.76. The effectiveness of the module is in the moderate category with a normalized average gain score of 0.51. The results show that the developed module is very valid, very practical, and effective so that it can be used as one of the teaching materials in electronics lectures

Abstract

This study aims to develop an evaluation instrument for science learning program in junior high schools based on the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model. This research uses the exploratory sequential mix method for instrument development. The qualitative stage was carried out through in-depth interviews with five principals and ten teachers. The qualitative stage aims to analyze needs in the field and explore the opinions of school principals and teachers regarding the evaluation of science learning programs. Researchers distributed instruments to 112 participants for the quantitative stage of the validation test. The instrument was validated in three stages. The first stage is the face validity test, the second stage is the Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) test, and the last stage is the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) test. The results of face validity conducted with two experts stated that each indicator developed had followed the flow of the Context, Input, Process, and Product (CIPP) model. Exploratory Factor Analysis Test Based on scree plot data, it was found that there was a fault after the four components, and the researcher decided to take four elements with a total variance of 50.95%. The confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) test showed that from 47 items, only 35 items were declared valid. This research has positive implications for the practice of integrated science learning at the junior high school level in Indonesia. Principals and teachers can use this CIPP-based evaluation instrument to evaluate the effectiveness of the integrated science learning process that has been carried out so far

Abstract

Understanding the concept and having a positive attitude towards studying physics is a requirement to succeed in studying physics. Studies have shown that students have low conceptual understanding and do not yet have positive attitudes toward learning physics. This research aims to analyze students' conceptual understanding of Straight Motion for class X, analyze students' attitudes towards learning physics, and analyze the correlation between conceptual understanding and students' attitudes towards teaching physics. This type of research is descriptive research with a quantitative approach and the population of all students of class X SMAN in Payakumbuh City and a sample of 205 students. The sampling technique used the purposive sampling technique using the Four-Tier Multiple Choice and Likert Scale. The research results revealed: Students understood the concept of 33.93% in the medium category.  Students' attitudes towards studying physics are good, but the indicators of interest in increasing the time to study physics tend to be in the reasonably good category. The correlation between conceptual understanding and student attitudes with a significance value of 0.000 and a correlation value of 0.490 means that the correlation between the concept understanding variable and the student attitude variable is moderate.

The test was carried out in class VII SMP Yapis Manokwari which consisted of 23 students. This research is a descriptive study using the Rasch model with winstep software. The results showed that the average score of students in solving critical thinking questions reached 57%. The Rasch model shows that students 23, 04, and 21 have high intelligence, while students 05, 08, 03, 10, 17, 01, 15, 19, 11, and 18 have the lowest abilities. The results showed that the ability of students to solve critical thinking questions was still in the low category. This can be used as an evaluation description for teachers to improve students' critical thinking skills
