Abstract

The research about the effect of storage time of tumeric (curcuma domestica vahl) for inhibition of antioxidant has been conducted. The study aims to determine the effect of storage time of tumeric (curcuma domestica vahl) for inhibition of antioxidants as well as to determine how much inhibition of antioxidant found in tumeric. This study used a variation of storage time namely 8, 13 and 18 days. The extract of tumeric was obtained by maceration method using ethanol. The antioxidant activity of turmeric was measured by UV Vis spectrophotometry in which DPPH (1,1-difenil-2-pikrilhidrazil) as a reagent. The absorbance measurements was carried out at a wavelength of 517 nm to determine the percentage of inhibition of antioxidant in turmeric and vitamin C (as a positive control). The results revealed that percentage of inhibition of vitamin C is 56.68%, while the percentage of inhibition of turmeric decrease during storage. Based on the data obtained, turmeric with storage time of 8 days is 43.96%, turmeric with storage time of 13 days is 23.27%, and turmeric with storage time of 18 days is 11.92%. This study showed that the effect of storage time on the inhibition of antioxidant turmeric are characterized by a decrease of percentage inhibition of antioxidants in turmeric during the storage period.

Abstract

The caring of community and local government toward sustainability of seagrass ecosystem has not built properly as well as toward the ecosystem of coral reef and mangrove, as a result, this plant needs attention for its sustainability. One of sea grass’s species which is avalaible abundantly in Banawa district Donggala regency, is enhalus acoroides type. This research aims to know the level of nitrogen dan phosphorus in enhalus acoroides which grow in the bay of Kabonga besar, Banawa district Donggala regency. Determination of nitrogen level used kjeldhal method which consisted of destruction, destilation, titration and phosphorus used wet ash method which continued to use the UV-Vis spectrometry. The result showed that the level of nitrogen in sea grass (enhalus acoroides) type was 1.89 in percentage and phosphorus was 0.413 in percentage.

Abstract

The study’s aim is to utilize waste oil palm empty bunches into organic fertilizer and analyze the levels of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P). The methods used may include sampling and laboratory analysis. To determine the levels of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) on the organic fertilizer from TKKS waste, spectrodirect was used. Based on analysis, it was obtained that level of nitrogen (N) is 2.033% and phosphorus (P) was 0.107%, while the amount of moisture content was 47.53% and ash content was 36,66%. Based on the SNI about compost quality from organic waste, the results of this study indicate that waste TKKS can be used as raw material for organic fertilizer.

Abstract

Battery is one  of a source of energy. Increasing the need of energy affects to the diminishing reserves of fossil energy sources. Therefore, this needs for energy sources alternative. Modification of chitosan-polyvinyl alcohol electrolyte membrane added with lithium salt has an advantage on environmentally friendly. This research aims to study the effect of adding percent weight of silica on the conductivity of the electrolyte polymers made from chitosan-polyvinyl alcohol-lithium. The ionic conductivity of the electrolyte polymer chitosan-polyvinyl alcohol-lithium-silica was measured by impedance spectroscopy. The results showed the electrolyte polymer with the addition of 5% silica performed the highest ionic conductivity by 2.005 x 10-7 S/cm. Characteristic of battery made from electrolyte polymer chitosan-polyvinyl alcohol-lithium with the addition of silica performed voltage of 1.5 Volts which was comparable to the commercial battery with the voltage of 1.8 Volts. These results indicate that silica can be used as a filler to improve the ionic conductivity.

Abstract

Research on the use of aloe vera gel (aloe vera) as a natural coagulant in water purification village wells Sausu Tambu has been done. This study aims to determine whether aloe vera gel can be used as a natural coagulant and determine the optimum ratio of aloe vera gel in water (V/V) which is used in the purification of water wells in the village Sausu Tambu. Research was conducted on the water sample preparation, natural production of aloe vera gel, water treatment and analysis of water quality parameters, namely turbidity, hardness, color, pH and temperature. The results showed that aloe vera gel can be used as a coagulant to purify the water with an optimum ratio of 0.3 mL aloe vera gel in 500 mL water sample. Aloe vera gel can reduce 72.22% of turbidity, 63.48% hardness, 68.62% color with a pH of 5.5 and a temperature of 30 oC. It can be concluded that the aloe vera gel has the ability as a coagulant to purify water.

Abstract

The research aim is to determine the ability of cerakin seeds as natural insecticide on caterpillar leek (spodoptera exigua Hubn). In this study, the cerakin seeds from Saloya village, Labuan Panimba village Donggala, and Sidole Village Ampibabo, Central Sulawesi are used as sample. The cerakin seeds was extracted by using ethanol and then were tested on caterpillar leek (spodoptera exigua) with a concentration of extract 15, 25, 35, 45 and 55%. The results showed that for each concentration showed vary results in killing larvae of caterpillar leek (spodoptera exigua), the higher concentration the more mortality of caterpillar leek’s larvae (spodoptera exigua). Therefore it can be stated that the extract of cerakin seeds can be used as an natural insecticide on caterpillar leek (spodoptera exigua) and is also able to kill the larvae caterpillar leek (spodoptera exigua) 93.3% to 100%.

Abstract

Lamtoro gung (leucaena leucocephala) is one of the food materials containing high enough protein which allow to be used as raw material for producing tempeh through fermentation. This study aimed to determine the effect of fermentation time to the protein levels of lamtoro gung seeds tempeh with variation fermentation times of 24, 36, 48, 60 and 72 hours. Steps in this study were sample preparation, producing lamtoro gung seeds tempeh,and protein levels analysis. The protein level was determined by Kjeldahl method. The results showed that there was an effect of fermentation time to the protein levels. The longer the fermentation time took effect to the lower the levels of protein produced. The highest protein level was obtained at 24 hours of fermentation time that was equal to 7.943%, while the protein level on fermentation time of 36 hours was equal to 7.725%, 48 hours fermentation time was equal to 7.195%, 60 hours fermentation time was equal to 7.197%, and 72 hours fermentation time was equal to 5.733%.

Abstract

Dadap red (erythrina crista-galli L.) is belonged to the legumes (fabaceaea) family which, is one of the flowering shade plants that often used as an ornamental plant. This plant has a bright red flower, a taproot with root nodule bacteria nitrogen fixation and compound leaf consists three strands on each stem. This research is climed to proves that the extract of dadap red flower can be used as acid-base indicators. Dadap red flowers was macerated using methanol then filtered. The filtrate was ready to use as an acid-base indicator. The extract is tested in an acid-base, buffer solutions, and was compared with phenolphthalein for a strong acid with a strong base while a methyl orange a weak base with a strong acid. Based on the result, indicator of dadap red flower extrat in the strong acid was red colour, while in the weak acid was pink, and also in the strong base was dark green and in the weak base was purple. Furthermore, in the buffer solution, the indicator of dadap red flower extract gave four groups of colour change, namely red color at pH 1 to pH 6, colorless at pH 7 to pH 9, brown at pH 10 and blue at pH 11 to pH 12. Additionally, to attain the end point of titration, the indicators of dadap red flower extract gives a similar results with the comparison indicators. The results showed that the indicator of dadap red flower extracts can be used as an alternative indicator.
