Abstract

Since the years 1950 of multicultural education discourse. The reason involves the issue of racism and discrimination against minority groups originating from Africa. 1970s discourse becomes stronger, such as in America, England, Germany, and others. 1980 is seen as the beginning of the emergence of multicultural educational institutions, as initiated by James A Banks et al. The idea of multicultural education is gaining momentum globally as recommended UNISCO in October 1994 in Geneva Switzerland. Among mulikultural educational thinkers of the West, like James A Banks, L. Derman-Sparks, Dawn Gill, Geneva Gay, Christine Sleeter, Peter McLaren, Donna M. Gollnick, Philip Chinn, Will Kymlica, G. Shin and P. Gorski,. Islamic thinkers who carries a lot of Islamic education multicultural issues, such as Fazlur Rahman, "Abdullahi Ahmed An-Naim, Mohammed Arkoun, Muhammad Shahrour, Humayun Kabir, and Ali Shariati, and Mamadiou Dia. Of Indonesia, such as Mansour Fakih, H.A.R. Tilaar, Nurcholish Madjid, Azyumardi Azra, and M. Amin Abdullah. Their sincerity in spreading the idea of multicultural education must be bad sometimes, like humuman sentenced to death, was expelled from the country or convicted of apostasy by its opponents. Islamic multicultural education is a response to a variety of global discourse, especially intercultural and multicultural studies that have been developed in the United States and Erofa caused by discriminatory attitudes in the majority to the minority. As in America and Erofa, multicultural Islamic education aims to build a tolerant attitude, pluralistic, humanistic and inclusive towards fellow human beings. But not infrequently Islamic multicultural education has also become a tool for the control authorities, as happened in the world of education in Indonesia in the New Order era. This article is intended to elaborate on Islamic multicultural education in a philosophical perspective.

Abstract

The curriculum evaluation is a necessity. In Indonesia, the latest implemented curriculum for schools and madrasah is 2013 scientific based-approach curriculum which has not been implemented in all levels of school yet. As a guidance of the implementation of 2013 curriculum for madrasah, the religious affairs minister has established a Guidance Book for students and teachers. The Indonesian government will gradually provide the Guidance Book for students and teachers covering all subject taught in the school, Arabic in particular. Recently, Indonesian government has established Arabic textbook for class X of Madrasah Aliyah, for class VII of Madrasah Tsanawiyah, and for class I and IV of Madrasaha Ibtidaiyah. This textbook is important in emerging the ideology for students. That is why, the development of discourse through the use of pictures and sentences become important since they are integrative and meaningful for students in organizing the information and concepts of a book. This paper describes the significance of the textbook in socializing and internalizing the moral characters as well as gender equality.

Abstract

Indonesia is a pluralistic nation (plural). Multiculturalism beckons the existence of plurality and difference. Understanding and management of pluralism and multiculturalism will generate a positive force for the development of the nation. Conversely, if it is not understood and managed properly, diversity and multiculturalism could be a destructive factor and  a disaster trigger. Conflict and social violence that often occurs between groups of people are part of plurality and multiculturalism are not managed properly. Religious conflict as happened in Maumere (1995), Surabaya, Situbondo and Tasikmalaya (1996), Rengasdengklok (1997), Jakarta, Solo and Kupang (1998), Poso, Ambon (1999-2002), are not bit fatalities, but also has destroyed hundreds of places of worship (both churches and mosques) burned and destroyed. Similarly, notes of ethnics violence, such as certain ethnic violence in West Kalimantan (1933), Central Kalimantan (2000), it is needed a preventive measures as early prevention, so that such events do not recur in the future. To achieve this goal, inclusive-instrinsic understanding of religion.. Borrowing a term of Malinowski’s thinking wishfull; their beliefs are considered nil even though the truth of religion, but religion is still positive that was able to help the frustration and still has the potential to realize the social unity.

Abstract

Since the era of STAIN Samarinda to IAIN Samarinda, the characteristics of Islamic studies at IAIN Samarinda has not been crystalized yet. It is an important issue, since the characteristics of Islamic studies in Islamic higher education forms the identity of its image. This study aims to describe the characteristics of Islamic studies at IAIN Samarinda and to formulate the epistemology of Islamic studies at IAIN Samarinda. This is a philosophical qualitative research. The sources of data were from the dean of faculties, the vice-dean of faculties, and the lecturers of IAIN Samarinda. The data were collected by using interviews, documentation, and the study of literature. To validate the data, the researcher used data triangulation. The data, then, analyzed through three stages, namely: data reduction, data display, and data conclusion. The data findings show that the characteristics of Islamic studies at IAIN Samarinda, particulary in the Islamic education study program, tends to implement the multiculturalism-based content. Otherwise, the epistemology of Islamic studies at IAIN Samarinda tends to use ASASI Model (Akademik Sains Islam Malaysia). The implication of this study are: 1) IAIN Samarinda should determine the identity of the characteristics of Islamic studies at IAIN Samarinda, 2) IAIN Samarinda should facilitate the formulation of the epistemology of Islamic studies at IAIN Samarinda, 3) IAIN Samarinda might formulate the concept and the implementaion of science integration both of the aspect of methodology using reflective-conceptual-tentative-problematic and the aspect of its science epistemology using the model of structure of Islamic science.
