Abstract

The discussions about English education at an early age have led to different perspectives. Many studies have shown that "younger is better" at learning English. However, it is no longer acceptable claiming that it is better to start early or that adult learners are better than young people in most of cases. In addition, there are many studies in which the analysis concern on the teacher’s perspective to look at the challenges of teaching English to young learners. Therefore, this study aims to reveal how students perceive English language in general. This study carried out a narrative research method in which the primary data was collected from the reflections of the students' memoranda and supported by a semi-structured interview. Meanwhile, the sampling was done through purposive sampling technique. The research results are analyzed thematically which include several points: (A) Student's Perspective, (B) Student’s Difficulties in Learning English, and (C) Student's desire to have an Ideal English teacher. Based on the discussion of the results, this study also proposes several approaches in teaching English for young learners. Thus, it provides a complete picture of TEYL in Indonesian context and is expected to give English teachers an idea of the importance of considering aspects related to the challenges and difficulties of young learners from a learning perspective. Keyword: TEYL, student’s perspective, teaching challenges, learning difficulties

Abstract

Teachers in the 21st century must be capable of new literacy, such as digital literacy, technology literacy, and human literacy. There has been a lot of research done in this area, but this is one of the more recent studies that relates to technological literacy. This research will focus on the program evaluation of the use of technology literacy in English classrooms. The study aimed to determine whether technology literacy was used in the classrooms, to evaluate teachers’ competence in the use of technology literacy, and to determine the students’ needs in the use of computing applications in the English classroom. A needs analysis was used as the research methodology. To get the data, an observation sheet was obtained as the instrument. The questionnaires were adapted from Blended Learning Innovation for IRCC Settlement Language Training by Fahy et. al. (2016). The findings confirmed some facts. First, despite the challenges of technology literacy applied in the classroom, teachers felt the positive impacts on teaching and learning in the classroom. Second, in the use of technology applications, it has met some of the students' needs in learning English. Third, in terms of evaluation, the teacher did not meet enough qualifications as a qualified teacher to use technology in the classroom. As a result, it influenced the teaching-learning process, and they were unable to instruct successfully. The researcher proposed that the school hold a workshop or training for the teachers to improve their teaching skills using technology literacy. The researcher recommended further study on the integration of the technology literacy used in the English syllabus and the teaching materials. Keynotes: technology literacy, program evaluation, needs analysis

Abstract

Technological interventions for better educational outcomes are well considered notions in the present educational contexts. While teacher training and provision of technological services affirm the ushering in of change, the rural contexts continue to have apprehensions of learning English coupled with the use of technology. Incremental changes requiring far greater adjustments in teaching and learning attitudes are required to formulate an approach to bring in technological intervention. "Technology, when entering the institutional settings of an educational domain, triggers changes in teaching and learning practices (Gill 2009). A contextual approach would act as a motivational strategy to begin the use of devices in the classroom. It is important to identify and investigate factors that play an influential role in technology adoption and capacity building of teachers. Contextual cues can provide language cues which will create opportunities for teaching practices to change for the accommodation of technological intervention. A contextual approach can be initiated by starting with a survey of the needs of learners regarding use of computers and smartphones. Such a survey would also guide a proposal for the capacity building of teachers.

Abstract

This research has purpose to analyse economy in Covid age with formula of Roikhan-12 (R12) as Salat Jamak and formula of Reflexivity-47 (R47) as finished object of human in fundamental language by Quran. R12 is a simple constant in the beginning of creation. R47 is a complex structure of physical object in existing creation. These research objects are the holy book and formulas of R-12 and R-47. Research is studied through reference of books, journals, holy books, and other electronic media. The methodology uses analytical descriptive in analogies and comparative sentences in language grammar. The methods are reflexivity, similarity and hahslm 472319. The results are the analogy of R-12 as worship of Plural Pray (Salat Jamak) before R-47. R-47 is the physical conject as the existing creation in universe. Comparative sentence between ‘Not I create jin and human except for worship’ with ‘Not I create tea and coffee except for guest’. These sentences can be analogue as the mirroring system that corresponds to a projector paradigm consisting of the notebook, projector, and screen. The mirror's position consisted of shadow, mirror, and people. The blueprint presence is a reflexivity of the constant 12 stored from the Quran 51.56 verse number (1+5) times (5+6) root of digit 2 becomes 6x2=12. Twelve reflects 1 salat Subuh and 2 salat Jamak (Dzuhur Asar and Magrib Isa). R-12 can be illustrated as religion and R-47 can be illustrated as science where R-12 simple is the same with R-12* complex or R-47. This R-12 and R-47 also can be adapted to languages structures in economic covid age. Keywords: economy, covid, r12, r47, language

Abstract

The current study investigates how teachers in ELT classrooms interpret the concept of Assessment for Learning (AfL) during online learning. More specifically, the research intends to see how the concept of assessment for learning can help engaged teachers get a better understanding of AfL and optimize their own usage of AfL in the classroom. This research also contributes to a better understanding of learning assessment in the context of online learning, particularly in terms of enhancing students' English learning outcomes. It also elaborates how teachers should plan their online instruction while taking into account the AfL's existing components. Two English teachers from an Indonesian junior high school participated in this study. A case study research design was used in this study. Data was gathered through interviews and questionnaires. Then, collecting data from questionnaires distributed to teachers online. Thematic analysis with coding was utilized as the analysis technique. These findings show that teachers do not properly understand the basic concept of AfL, resulting in less-than-optimal implementation in the classroom. Abstract

Acronyms, idiosyncratic part of natural languages, have become cross-lingually popular. The English language has experienced a resurgence of acronyms with the World Wars. This new wave of the non-morphematic words in English has left an indelible impression on Bangla. Like mainstream words, Bangla has also accepted many acronym loans from the English language. In conducting this qualitative research, we have used diverse resources including dictionaries, lexicons, scholarly publications, newspapers and social media sites. Our mixed-method data reveal that the English Acronymic loans in Bangla can be compartmentalized into two broad categories – direct and indirect loans. There are many direct loans from the English sources. We have named this type as ‘Global Acronyms’. The second broad category includes acronyms locally created using pure English materials (Local acronyms); acronyms created using pure Bangla materials (Indigenous acronyms); acronyms created with an admixture of bilingual elements (Hybrid acronyms) and acronyms formed from native materials but they are acronymized in the Roman script (Transliterated acronym). In our data, we see the presence of another type which we have called ‘Re-semanticized acronyms’. This refers to acronyms which are reinterpreted by Banglophones, for example, AIDS (Acute Ideological Deficiency Syndrome). Both direct and indirect loans in Bangla have shown considerable productivity in the borrowing language. The loans can be prefixed and suffixed with Bangla affixes. They can be inflected for pluralization. They are also open to participate in non-concatenative processes like reduplication in Bangla.

Abstract

With the 21st century increasing globalization and advent in technology, social media has become an integral part of the everyday life of many students. Various websites and mobile applications dedicated to social media notably twitter, Facebook and instagram are popular. As a matter of fact, Facebook is the most ubiquitous social networking site in students’ life; it offers an online platform on which users create profiles, interact and exchange content, share pictures and videos, discuss subjects, follow news, publish advertisements for group events, or play different games. This fact compels us to study its effects on their life. How Facebook shapes students’ life has been the focus of educators and researchers in the last decade. For instance, extensive research has recently been conducted on the effects of this social media on students’ well-being and academic achievement. However, little research is found on its effect on social intelligence, a critical aspect of students’ social life. As such, the present study investigated how Facebook use shapes students’ social intelligence. Specifically, we were interested in exploring how students understand and manage emotions and relationships via the virtual world of Facebook. Subjects were ninety-two (92) students from different Algerian universities. Data was collected via an online survey which aimed at exploring students’ use of facebook: intensity, awareness, attitudes and management. Results indicated a significant relation between Facebook use and students’ social intelligence. The findings also reported the benefits the students experience via Fecebook. However, the participants voiced some concerns regarding its effects. As an outcome of the study, a number of implications were developed. Key words: Algerian students, attitudes, Facebook, social intelligence, social media

The existence of female characters in Biblical studies always has an important position and has a large enough influence so that it can strengthen or weaken men. In the Book of Kings, women can be found in their positions as queens, mothers, wives, and daughters who are directly involved with the King and his kingdom. This study aims to examine the position and role of women in their existence in the biblical narrative, especially the Book of Kings, where women often have very important positions and functions in a historical influence and the continuity of the kingdom. This study was carried out in the Bible, especially the Book of Kings which was studied as literature, and the researcher used a hermeneutic approach to describe the relationship between culture and customs at that time.
