Abstract

Paddy production supply chain is a complicated multi-stakeholder system whereby any disruption in any one of the nodes can have a cascading effect on the entire system. There has been more recent interest in the supply chain resilience, although the use of weighted graph-theoretic models with agricultural networks in developing countries has been under-explored, particularly at the local and community level. This study has filled three gaps: (1) the fact that no weighted network models have been used to measure the strength of the interactions between actors in the paddy supply chain; (2) the fact that no node-level vulnerability analysis has been used based on centrality of nodes in the graph in the context of Malaysian agriculture; and (3) the fact that no node-level vulnerability analysis has been used based on the centrality of the nodes in the graph in the context of Malaysian agriculture. This work uses an artificial dataset based upon statistically grounded distributions parameterized against recorded Malaysian paddy supply chain parameters to model the paddy supply chain as a directed weighted graph G = (V, E, W). It has three weighted centrality measures: Weighted Degree Centrality (WDC), Weighted Betweenness Centrality (WBC), and Weighted Closeness Centrality (WCC). Structural statistics of networks, like density, clustering coefficient, and average path length, are also computed. The sensitivity analysis entails modeling the desired deletion of the most central node, Processing-1, to ascertain the vulnerability of the system. Results confirm that Processing-1 is the most common bottleneck in each of the three dimensions of centrality. Its removal is observed to decrease Farm-1 WDC by 66.7, making the betweenness centrality of Farm-1 decrease to 0, and reducing the average network closeness by approximately 34. These findings will offer quantitative and practical information to interested policymakers and supply chain planners who may be interested in having more resilient agricultural food systems.

Abstract

Polynomial rings play a fundamental role in algebra, with wide-ranging applications in number theory, algebraic geometry, and analysis. A key method for studying ring structures is through derivations. Among these, Jordan triple derivations generalize Jordan derivations and exhibit more intricate structural properties. While Jordan derivations have been extensively studied, their triple counterparts remain relatively underdeveloped, particularly in the context of polynomial rings. This paper adopts a theoretical algebraic approach to investigate the properties and structural aspects of Jordan triple derivations on rings and the polynomial ring R[x]. By extending existing results and constructing illustrative examples, we establish several new properties. In particular, we show that the set of Jordan triple derivations is closed under finite addition, finite linear combinations, and finite direct sums. Furthermore, every inner derivation is shown to be a Jordan triple derivation. Moreover, any Jordan triple derivation on the ring induces a Jordan triple derivation on the polynomial ring . These results contribute to a deeper understanding of the structure of Jordan triple derivations and provide a foundation for further research in this area.

Abstract

This study addresses the challenge of modeling spatio-temporal climate data that are often affected by outliers, which significantly bias conventional principal component analysis. The main contribution of this research is not merely the application of Spatio-Temporal Principal Component Analysis (STPCA), but its novel integration with the Fast Minimum Covariance Determinant (FASTMCD) method to obtain robust spatio-temporal components that are resilient to outliers in Bali’s climate data. The core methodology involves transforming four climate variables (thermal comfort, cloud cover, rainfall, and wind speed) from 24 stations in Bali (2010–2019) using Fourier basis expansion, applying spatial weighting, and utilizing robust covariance estimation via FASTMCD. The results indicate that the Inverse Power Distance (IPD) weighting scheme optimally captures the spatial structure. Furthermore, the first robust principal component (STPC1) reveals the dominant climate variability, which is driven primarily by thermal comfort and wind speed. This component successfully highlights a clear spatial differentiation between coastal lowland and highland regions despite the presence of extreme observations. These findings imply that the robust STPCA-FASTMCD framework provides a highly stable representation of regional climate patterns, offering a reliable analytical tool for developing climate comfort indices and supporting climate-informed tourism planning in tropical regions.

Abstract

Today, a major area of concern is the huge consumption of energy worldwide. The modern buildings are considered the largest energy consumers. When the energy consumption pattern of buildings is analyzed, attention is diverted towards the “Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning” plant, which is accountable for the maximum consumption of energy in the buildings. This research work proposes a Deep learning framework including variants of Artificial Neural Network (ANN), namely, Recurrent Neural Network (RNN), Long-Short Term Memory (LSTM), and Gated Recurrent Units (GRU) to analyze and predict the abnormal energy consumption of the HVAC plants in commercial buildings. Also, proficient pre-processing, exploratory data analysis, and hyperparameter tuning for the proposed models are the key factors of this research. The proposed models have exhibited significant improvement as compared to the original RNN, LSTM, and GRU models. Different models of GRU were created using different values for hyperparameters, and the results of the experiments performed on the dataset show that one of the models of GRU outperformed the others with the least Mean Squared Errors (0.006) and (0.005) for the two months April and August, respectively. The research reveals that GRU is a better option for time series data analysis and is useful in energy consumption prediction for HVAC plants.

Abstract

This study aims to optimize material dispersion in a reservoir with turbulent flow using the convection-diffusion equation with three-point sources, addressing a research gap from previous studies that utilized only two sources. The Dual Reciprocity Boundary Element Method (DRBEM) is applied as a numerical solution, with flow characteristics simulated using the k-epsilon turbulence model. Ten configurations of source point positions were evaluated to determine the most effective strategy for uniform material distribution. Results demonstrate that DRBEM accurately approximates analytical solutions, with improved accuracy at higher interpolation point densities. The key finding reveals that Case 2 (vertical arrangement at the downstream side) yields the most uniform distribution, achieving ~8.53% higher uniformity compared to other cases. While limited to a specific velocity profile and boundary conditions, this research provides valuable insights for engineering applications in reservoir management by identifying optimal source placement strategies.

Abstract

Research in ring theory has produced major advances, particularly in the study of derivations. A related notion is that of a homoderivation, which combines aspects of derivations and ring homomorphisms. An additive map is called a homoderivation if , for every This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the fundamental structural properties of homoderivation mappings. The main results show that the class of homoderivations is closed under direct sums on component rings. In addition, the sum of two homoderations is again a homoderivation, provided the maps are orthogonal. However, scalar multiplication of a homoderivation generally does not yield another homoderivation, highlighting a key structural distinction from classical derivations.

Abstract

This study examines efficiency-driven mass layoffs in Indonesia, particularly in the post-COVID-19 period, when efficiency discourse has increasingly been used to justify workforce reductions. The study addresses a gap in the literature by integrating Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), Discourse Network Analysis (DNA), and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) within a single analytical framework. This integration constitutes the main novelty of the study, as previous research has generally examined layoffs from separate legal, economic, or organizational perspectives rather than combining discursive, relational, and causal dimensions. Data were collected from 30 documents consisting of news reports, policy-related texts, and public discourse materials identified through internet-based searches, complemented by Focus Group Discussions with affected employees, HR personnel, and policy experts, as well as a survey of 100 respondents conducted over one week using snowball sampling. The results show that governance and regulation, as well as technology and innovation, significantly influence efficiency, which in turn significantly increases the likelihood of mass layoffs. Efficiency also mediates the relationship between governance, technology, and layoffs. The study contributes by offering an integrated empirical framework for understanding how layoff decisions are shaped not only by organizational considerations but also by discourse and policy environments. Practically, the findings suggest the need for layoff management policies that emphasize regulatory transparency, accountability, legal certainty, and social protection for workers. A limitation of this study is its reliance on a relatively limited qualitative document set and non-probability survey sampling, which may restrict generalizability. Nevertheless, the findings provide useful evidence for designing more balanced efficiency policies that protect both organizational sustainability and worker welfare.

Abstract

Selecting an appropriate research topic is a critical yet challenging task for mathematics students, often hindered by misalignment between student interests, academic competencies, and supervisor availability. Traditional recommendation systems fail to capture the inherent uncertainty and ambiguity in human preferences, leading to suboptimal topic matches and prolonged study durations. This paper develops a research topic recommendation system specifically designed for mathematics students using an innovative Picture Fuzzy Distance Measure (PFDM). The picture fuzzy approach was selected for its comprehensiveness and detail in decision-making. Unlike traditional binary or even intuitionistic fuzzy models, this approach uniquely and simultaneously accommodates three degrees of consideration: positive membership, neutral membership, and negative membership degrees, thereby enabling more comprehensive representation of the complexity and ambiguity in human preferences. The proposed method integrates three main criteria through this approach: student interest measured through structured questionnaires, academic competence based on transcript analysis, and supervisor suitability based on expertise and availability. The developed PFDM has been proven to satisfy all basic metric axioms—non-negativity, identity, symmetry, and triangle inequality—with values bounded within the [0,1] interval. This paper not only provides a theoretical contribution to the development of fuzzy distance measures but also offers a practical solution for research topic recommendation.

Abstract

The inventory model provides a mathematical foundation for estimating total costs in managing product flow within a supply chain. As modern supply chains involve multiple decision makers with potentially conflicting objectives, multi-echelon inventory systems require both cost optimization and strategic coordination. Conventional optimization methods are often insufficient to capture these strategic interactions. To address this challenge, this study develops a hybrid model integrating game-theoretic analysis with a Genetic Algorithm (GA) to optimize decision-making in multi-echelon inventory systems. The main contribution of this study lies in integrating game-theoretic equilibrium concepts with a genetic algorithm framework to provide a unified analytical–computational approach for two-echelon inventory decision-making. Game theory represents the strategic behavior among supply chain actors through equilibrium concepts such as Nash and Stackelberg equilibria, while the GA efficiently explores high-dimensional decision spaces to obtain near-optimal solutions. The integration of game-theoretic equilibrium concepts with a genetic algorithm framework allows the resulting solutions to satisfy equilibrium conditions while remaining computationally tractable. This hybrid framework provides a more realistic representation of supply chain decision-making under competitive or cooperative settings. The results demonstrate that the proposed approach enhances the performance of classical game-theoretic inventory models, offering a robust tool for optimizing inventory strategies in complex supply chain environments. The results demonstrate improvements in total inventory cost and coordination efficiency across the vendor–buyer system under different equilibrium schemes. However, this study is limited to a two-echelon deterministic inventory structure with numerical illustrations
