Abstract

This research produced a teaching material in the form Work Sheet (LKPD) based guided inquiry which involves 3 levels of chemical phenomena namely macroscopic, sub-microscopic and symbolic. The worksheet was created using Plomp model and using guided inquiry learning cycle consisting of orientation, exploration, concept formation, application, and closure. This LKPD has been tested validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The validity test gives the result of the kappa moment of 0.83 with the category of very high. Analysis of practicality in one-to-one, small group, and field test stage showed the value of 0.80, 0.76, and 0.70 with all three values in the high category. Effectiveness test seen from student’s learning outcome before and after using LKPD obtained gain score is 0.76 in the high category and average activity of students is 86.3% at every meeting. The results showed that, worksheet using the Plomp model which has been produced are valid, practical, and effective Keywords: Guided inquiry, chemical bonding, validity, practicality, effectiveness

Abstract

Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) is one kind of university contribution to community. Through KKN, student also learn how to apply their knowledge and contribute it to community need. In Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) there are two kind of KKN which are Reguler and Pembelajaran Pemberdayaan Masyarakat (PPM), which differentiate from the topic used. KKN PPM already has major topic that obtained from village destination need. The problem from KKN PPM is limitation time for student to learn about major topic before socialize to community like in KKN UII 57 unit 310-315 which has pyrolisis method as their major topic. Not all the sudent that include in unit 310-315, which come from different study, understand about pyrolisis. To settle this problem, experimental method was choose as learning method used, which help student understand about pyrolisis in limitation time. The effectiveness of this method was observed by observation, interview and questioner. The result show that expertimental method give good result. The student understand basic concept of pyrolisis process that needed in limitation time, eventhough they did not understand anything about pyrolisis method before.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the concept understanding of first year students of study program chemistry education, faculty of mathematics and natural sciences, Universitas Islam Indonesia Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The sample used in this study was 49 students. Data collection instruments used are multiple choice questions.  The results of the study show that there are still many students who have difficulty in determining the example of the force between molecules that occurs in several molecules. Students also have difficulty in determining the molecuar forces between molecules from the example case given. The level of student understanding in the material concept of moleculecular forces is classified intermediate.

Abstract

Nowadays the development of thinking skills has become the main focus in educational research. Standard of graduate competency mandate that graduates of schools to universities in Indonesia must have thinking skills.  Related to this, the goal of this quasi-experimental study was to describe the effectivity of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) student worksheets to improve students' critical thinking skills (CTS) in the topic of mixtures separation. This study was carried out in the SMPN 1 Pugung by using the Non-Equivalent (Pretest-Posttest) Control Group Design. The effectivity of PjBL student worksheets measured based on the n-gain and the effect size values. Statistically, the n-gain value of the experimental class was higher than the control class. The effect size value was in medium categorized.  These results indicated that the PjBL student worksheets were effective to improve students' CTS in the topic of mixtures separation. Keywords: student worksheets, project-based learning, critical thinking skills, mixtures separation

Abstract

Community assistance course is a special course for undergraduate student level which need to be finished before doing final thesis project. This course aims to apply the student knowledge which is gained during six semesters in the class. This course is followed by fourty eight students from different department e.g. science, engineering, psychology, law, medicine, and also Islamic studies. We applied a pyrolysis of biomass waste as the tools for Project based learning in community area. We divide fourty eight student into eight teams. Each team was assigned to do some task e.g. literature study, project design, project implementation, and project report based on the pyrolysis project. After the project was finished, we evaluate the grade of each student using the learning outcome which was defined as the goal of the study. Fourty six students acquired grade A, while the other two students acquired grade B. This achievement related to the project based learning that we used in the Community Assistance Course.   Keywords: project-based learning, pyrolysis, community assistance course
