Abstract

The aim of this experiment was to find out data and information of growth rate, survival rate and yield of swimming crabs (Portunus pelagicus) and rabbit fish (Siganus gutatus) which cultured together with different stocking density of rabbit fish in brackishwater ponds. Nine brackishwater ponds with the dimention of 100 m2 with 100 cm depth were used. Crablet of 17th of 7.2 + 0.2 mm charapace width and 0.05 + 0.02 g body weight were used in this research with stocking density of 300 ind/100 m2. During the rearing the crabs were fed trash fish (Sardinella sp) given of twice a days, dosage 5% of total body weight. Experiment was carried out on complete randomized design with treatments were stocking density of rabbit fish i.e. 20 ind/100m2 (A), 30 ind/100 m2 (B), and 40 ind/100m2 (C) with three replicates. The rabbit fish of length were 9.1 + 0,8 cm and weight of 15+ 0.6 g were used. The result showed that the growth of body length and weight and survival rate of swimming crabs and rabbit fish were not significantly different (P>0.05), but the yield of rabbit fish was significantly different (P<0.05).

Abstract

Clown loach (Chromobotia macracanthus Bleeker) or botia is an endemic species of Indonesia belonging to Cobitidae family which has restricted distribution only in Sumatra in Pangabuang, Kwanten, Batanghari, Teluk Betung, Musi riverines, and in Kalimantan found in Barito, Kahayan, Kapuas, Bongan dan Mahakam rivers. The objectives of this study are to find the genetical population structure and the history of colonization of clown loach from Kalimantan (Kapuas river) dan Sumatra (Batanghari, Musi and Tulang Bawang rivers) based on intron sequence of Aldolase B gene. Cutting fins are collected from each location and preserved in ethanol solution and stored in deep freezer before digested for DNA analysis by proteinase-K method followed by CTAB (cethyl/hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide) method; then amplified by EPIC-PCR (Exon Primed Intron Crossing Polymerase Chain Reaction) techniques. PCR product were Electrophoreted and DNA bands were sequenced. The results of sequences analysis showed 8 types of alleles, 5 types for type A alleles (A-1, A-2, A-3, A-4, A-5), 2 type B alleles (B-1 and B-2) and C-1. There was a genetic difference between Sumatra and Kalimantan populations.

Abstract

An  experiment  to  increase  of  immune  system  of  mangrove  grouper,  Epinephelus coioides seed with application of vitamin C and immunostimulant have been done. The experiment was carried out in completely randomized design with three treatments in twoplicates. The mangrove grouper seed (5 cm total length) were treated with 1000 mg vitamin C/kg diet (A), 1000 mg vitamin C + 1 ml bacterin/kg diet (B), and control (C). Vitamin C and bacterin were given every 10 day during 60 days rearing. After 30 and 60 days fishes were challenged with irridovirus. At the end of experiment, the non-specific immune responses were examined. The result showed that at challange test I, the highest survival rate was at treatment B (56.6%), followed by A (55.0%) and control (41.7%). On challenge test II, the higest survival rate was at treatment B (76.7%) followed by treatment A (68.4%) and control (48.3%).  The highest phagocytic activity (PA) was obtained at treatment B (21.0%), followed by treatment A (18.5%) and control (9.5%). The highest of lysozyme activity (LA) value was obtained on treatment B (2.0 cm), followed by treatment A (1.9 cm) and control (1.3 cm).  Combination of addition of ascorbic acid and immunostimulant gave higher survival rate compared to addition of immunostimulant only and control. Non-spesific immune response of mangrove grouper fry was significant different among treatment (P<0,05).

Abstract

The aim of this research was to know the reproductive biology of Ompok hypophthalmus included gonadal development stages and spawning season. The study was conducted from June to December 2006 in floodplain of Kampar Kiri River. Samplings were carried out monthly with purposive sampling method. Fish samples were cathed by gillnet, trapnet, hand line and long line. A total of 474 individuals were captured ranged 80-310 mm in total length and 2-143 g in weight. The female and male reached sexual maturity at 115 mm and 214 mm in total length respectively. The spawning season for this species ranges from June to December where a peak season found in October which examined based on variations in gonado somatic index (GSI) and the existence of mature male and females. The fecundity varied from 688-15180 eggs. The correlation coefficient between fecundity with total length and fecundity with weight were very weak. It lead to suggested that the coefficient cannot be used to predict O. hypophthalmus fecundity.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to obtain the information of the gonadal development i.e ovary and oocyte of the hybrid between female patin jambal (Pangasius djambal) and male patin siam (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus). The gonadal development was investigated monthly by dissection of fish samples with 225.2-2,238.6 grams of body weight. Observations were carried out visual-macroscopically for shape, colour, and size of the ovaries. The visual-microscopically observations were carried out for both whole oocyte and ovarian histological slides. The results showed that the ovaries were very small, look alike short lobes. Its colour were grey-redish, very fatly, some of which were rudimentary, with gonadosomatic indices (GSI) ranged 0.05-0.92%. The most advanced stage of ovarian development was stage II (developing stage), later developed as regression ovary with major atresia, and never reached mature stage. The intraovarian oocytes developed as stage 1 (chromatin nucleolar and perinucleolar stages) with less than 225 μm in diameter and stage 2 (cortical alveolar and yolk vesicles stages) with 200- 875 µm in diameter, and the most advanced oocyte stage reached stage 2 only. There were no oocytes reached vitellogenesis stage (stage 3, yolk granules stage) neither mature oocyte stage (stage 4, migratory nucleus and hydrated oocyte stages), and showed major atresia, assigned by presence of the atretic oocyte stage (stage 5).

Abstract

The research of population dynamic of Penaeus indicus was held on Segara Anakan Lagoon, Cilacap Central Java. This research aimed to study of the growth, length of first capture (Lc), and mortality of Penaeus indicus. The research were carried out from July to December 2004 using survey method, and the samples were collected by sistematic sampling method. Data was analyzed using ELEFAN in FiSAT II software. The result show that the first capture of carapace length was 20.4 mm. Growth pattern of P. Indicus was negative allometric (b = 2.44). Maximum carapace length in sample was 33.5 mm and L∞ = 35.7 mm, and index of curve growth (K) = 1.26 per year and to = - 0.0438 year. Time of inflection growth rate point was 0.438 year, on carapace length 16 mm. Total mortality (Z) was 3.95/years, natural mortality was 2.6/years and fishing mortality was 1.35/years, hence mortality was dominated by natural mortality.
