Abstract

The disparity in mathematics achievement between rural and urban students remains a global challenge affecting educational equity. Low mathematics achievement among rural students is shaped by interconnected and systemic factors rather than isolated causes. This study aims to map and synthesize key factors influencing rural students’ mathematics achievement based on international literature published between 2000 and 2025. A scoping review methodology following the Arksey and O’Malley framework was employed through systematic searches of ERIC, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases. Data were analyzed using descriptive and thematic approaches. The findings indicate that rural mathematics underachievement is associated with weak foundational skills, language barriers, teacher-centered instructional practices, limited family support, restricted access to technology, uneven teaching quality, and non-diagnostic assessment practices. These interrelated factors contribute to the persistence of the rural–urban achievement gap. The study highlights the need for holistic, context-sensitive, and sustainable interventions to improve mathematics education outcomes in rural settings.

Abstract

Peer interaction among primary school students is a natural social phenomenon, especially during break times, which provide students with the freedom to build relationships without academic pressure. Existing empirical studies have focused more on student interaction in the context of formal classroom learning, so that the spontaneous social dynamics and subjective experiences of students during break times have not been explored in depth. This study aims to examine the role of peer interaction in shaping the psychosocial development of primary school students during recess. The research used a qualitative approach with a descriptive design and was conducted at SD Inpres Nontotera, Bima Regency. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with the principal, classroom teachers, and students, as well as supporting documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results showed that peer interactions contributed to the development of empathy, social skills, and emotional regulation.

Abstract

Bahasa merupakan alat komunikasi yang tidak dapat dipisahkan dari kehidupan sosial manusia. Dalam konteks mahasiswa, penggunaan bahasa dipengaruhi oleh lingkungan sosial tempat mereka berinteraksi, baik di lingkungan kampus, pergaulan teman sebaya, keluarga, maupun media sosial. Perbedaan latar belakang sosial dan budaya menyebabkan munculnya variasi bahasa yang mencerminkan dinamika sosial di kalangan mahasiswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh lingkungan sosial terhadap cara berbahasa mahasiswa dalam perspektif sosiolinguistik. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa yang dipilih secara purposive berdasarkan keaktifan berinteraksi di lingkungan kampus. Data dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis deskriptif kualitatif melalui tahapan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa lingkungan sosial memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap variasi bahasa mahasiswa. Bentuk variasi bahasa yang ditemukan meliputi penggunaan bahasa gaul dalam pergaulan sehari-hari, alih kode dan campur kode akibat perbedaan latar belakang budaya, serta pergeseran penggunaan bahasa formal dan informal sesuai dengan situasi komunikasi. Faktor teman sebaya, media sosial, dan latar belakang budaya menjadi faktor dominan yang membentuk pola berbahasa mahasiswa. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi dalam pengembangan kajian sosiolinguistik, khususnya dalam memahami dinamika penggunaan bahasa di kalangan mahasiswa di era digital.

Abstract

The phenomenon of the language development of Generation Alpha children in the digital era needs to be studied sociolinguistically, considering that the language characteristics of this generation are influenced by social media and their direct social environment. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach to examine the influence of the digital social environment and peers on the language use of 5-year-old children, focusing on variations of popular slang such as skibidi, sigma, and code-mixing between Indonesian and foreign terms. Data were obtained through observation, indirect interviews, and documentation of daily speech. The analysis shows that children's vocabulary is significantly influenced by digital content and social interactions, which function as markers of social identity and communication tools within peer groups. This research enriches sociolinguistic studies, especially in the context of children's language development in the digital era.
