Abstract

Floods can have a worse impact on vulnerable communities compared to the general population. Surabaya City still frequently experiences floods with an average inundation height of 10,92 cm and duration of 19,12 minutes. Vulnerable communities are those with high risks, such as the elderly, pregnant women, people with disabilities, and the poor. Based on this issue, this research aims to analyze the level of disaster risk that connects hazards, vulnerability, and capacity of vulnerable communities. The study focuses on four neighborhoods with the most severe flooding based on Surabaya City inundation data. The research is divided into two stages: the first stage determines the weight of indicators for each variable using pairwise comparison, and the second stage involves surveying 120 respondents from vulnerable communities to assess scores for hazard, vulnerability, and capacity variables, which are then used to calculate the risk level. The research results indicate that the highest risk level occurs in Gundih and Dukuh Pakis neighborhoods with a score of 3,52. This is due to the high vulnerability caused by drainage channel conditions and building elevations below road level, posing a threat to vulnerable communities.

Abstract

The continuous discharge of mud into Porong River can affect the river's capacity. Therefore, this research aims to understand Porong's River capacity after becoming a disposal site for Sidoarjo mud and to analyze its effects over the next 10 years. The methods used include the application of the Thomas Fiering method to generate rainfall data during that period. This rainfall data is then processed using FJ Mock calculations to obtain Kali Porong's discharge data. Subsequently, this river discharge data is input into the MIKE 21 application to simulate the water surface elevation in Kali Porong. The results of this study include modeling of water surface elevations that reveal the distribution of sediment deposited at various locations based on U*. An important implication of this research is that the modeling results can be used by relevant parties in managing Kali Porong's capacity as a disposal site for Sidoarjo mud until 2032. A critical finding from this study is the presence of sections with overtopping conditions on both the right and left sides of line 5, suggesting the need to raise the embankment by 2 meters on the right side and 0.5 meters on the left side to maintain the capacity and sustainability of the river.

Abstract

The shear strength test of expansive clay is commonly conducted with the initial water content close to its optimum moisture content, obtained from the compaction test. However, the initial water content of natural soil is most likely close to its plastic limit, liquid limit, or somewhere in between. This study aims to report the results of undrained shear strength tests on expansive and non-expansive soils with the initial water content at its Atterberg limit. Two types of expansive soil and a non-expansive soil were tested with water content variations of ±5% PL and ±5% LL. The shear strength tests were conducted using the laboratory vane shear test (LVS) and a direct shear test. Results indicate that the undrained shear strength significantly decreased with the higher initial water content; however, the ratio of shear strength decrement of expansive soil (95%) was higher than that of non-expansive soil (89%).

Abstract

Project performance is an essential reference in supporting the success of construction implementation so that costs and completion time are according to plan. Previous research states that projects that experience delays will impact cost overruns which can be detrimental to contractors and project owners. This study takes the case of a performance evaluation on a building construction project that experienced a delay of 15.496% (25th week). The performance measurement results using the earned value, the project has an SPI value = 0.493, meaning that the project experienced significant delays. If the project is not controlled, it will take 72 weeks to complete from the 48-week plan at the cost of Rp. 64.57 billion from Rp. 57.23 billion. Control of this project needs acceleration which was carried out using the Crash Program method in 2 ways: (i) increasing the number of workers and (ii) maintaining the number of existing workers but increasing overtime hours. A practical solution alternative is to increase the number of workers, which results in a project completion time of 43 weeks with a final project cost of IDR 58.89 billion

Abstract

Banjarsari Sub-district has the highest density in Surakarta City causing traffic to be crowded and less friendly for students travelling. The need to improve student safety by providing safe road equipment facilities is the purpose of applying the RASS concept. The OD Matrix method was used to see the distribution of students divided into 22 zones based on administrative boundaries, PKJI 2023 and EAN were used to analyse the loading of student travel routes, and to analyse the fulfilment of pedestrian, cycling and public transport facilities, relevant guidelines were used. RASS conceptualised travel routes were created for the demand of the zones with the largest generation, which came from zone 20, zone 4, and zone 21. The recommended pedestrian facilities are sidewalks on each pedestrian route and zebra crossing facilities. The addition of special bicycle lanes and lanes is recommended on 3 routes consisting of 9 road sections.

Abstract

Compaction is essential in achieving the desired density of fill materials in accordance with technical specifications. There are existing differences in the compaction methods employed in the field and at laboratory testing, with in field using rolling compaction, while the laboratory employs pounding compaction. The objective of this study is to compare static and dynamic laboratory compaction methods and their effects on shear strength. Shear strength testing is conducted using the Triaxial Unconsolidated Undrained (TX-UU) approach. The research findings show that in laboratory compaction of low plasticity silt (ML) samples, there is a dry unit weight difference of 2.90%, and for high plasticity silt (MH) samples, a dry unit weight difference of 3.42% is observed when switching from dynamic compaction to static compaction. Additionally, the shear strength values for ML and MH samples increase by 10.37% and 13.63%, respectively, when switching from dynamic to static compaction. These results demonstrate that compaction energy and shear strength are positively correlated.

Abstract

The collapse of the dam has a significant impact on the downstream area of the dam. These impacts can be minimized by conducting a dam collapse simulation. There are two main causes of dam collapse, namely overtopping and piping. From the hydrological analysis of the Jatibarang Dam, it is determined that overtopping is not a concern. Therefore, the dam collapse analysis utilizes the piping analysis method. Dam collapse modeling is carried out using the HEC-RAS 2D program with the Froehlich 2008 regression method, as the dam is of the embankment type. According to the simulation results, a dam collapse at the Jatibarang Dam would result in a flood affecting an area of 30.590 km2 downstream of the dam.

Abstract

The terminal function is still needed to help community mobility, improve the economy, and increase local tourism, especially in the Borobudur Tourism area. In order for the Magelang City transportation arrangement to be maintained effectively, it is necessary to have a Type C Passenger Transport Terminal in Magelang Regency. The construction of this terminal can generate traffic and increase the burden of traffic around it, resulting in traffic disruptions that reduce the level of road services. Therefore, this study aims to calculate and analyze the impact of development activities that are useful to minimize the impact of traffic by providing appropriate recommendations. The research method was used with the approach of the 1997 Indonesian Road Capacity Manual (MKJI, 1997), with outputs used for delays and saturation degrees, where the delay values and saturation degrees were used to see existing conditions and predictions for the next 5 years. The results of the prediction analysis for 2028 show a significant increase in the degree of saturation on Jalan Syailendra Raya by 9-13% and also Jalan Pramudyawardhani by 11-15% judging from the existing conditions for both roads. Likewise, the increase in the degree of saturation in the performance of intersections around the development reaches 30-70%, as seen from existing conditions.

Abstract

This article provides information regarding the comparison of methods and results for calculating  compressive strength in compression member composite elements of concrete filled steel tubes (CFST) based on three standards (SNI) related to the design and specifications of structural steel in buildings. The three standards being compared are SNI 03-1729-2002, SNI 1729-2015 and SNI 1729:2020. Hollow structural sections (HSS) are widely used as structural elements, then increase their strength and reliability, concrete is added as a filler, known as Concrete Filled Steel Tubes (CFST) Sections. In all three standards, there are the same concept and discussion. Meanwhile, different methods, formulas, and coefficients appear in the calculation of compressive axial strength for CFST, so there are different results. The design axial strength values based on SNI 1729-2015 and SNI 1729:2020 are coincide, even though there are different coefficients. Further, the calculation results of the two SNIs are smaller than SNI 03-1729-2002 due to significant change in the suggested reduction factor. Overall, based on this study, the existing CFST member designed using SNI 03-1729-2002 needs to be re-evaluated, especially in their axial force restraining contribution.
