Abstract

Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer) is one of the fish has a high economic value and widely cultivated in Indonesia. However, Asian seabass cultured constrains by infectious diseases such as Viral Nervous Necrosis (VNN). Application of antibiotics during cultured cause resistance and residues in the body of fish. Disease prevention method by use immunostimulant develop to enhances non-specific responses. The purposes of this research were to know the best dose of black cumin (Nigella sativa) that can increase the non-specific immune response of Asian seabass after injected by VNN. This research used four treatments (0 g black cumin/kg of feed, 25 g black cumin /kg of feed, 50 g black cumin/kg of feed and 75 g black cumin/kg of feed). Total leucocyte and differential leucocyte analyzed descriptively. The results showed that dose of 75 g black cumin/kg of feed is the best  for increase the non-specific immune response of Asian seabass which had been seen from the highest total leucocyte. However, there was no effect of administrated of black cumin to Asian seabass after injected with VNN which had been seen from the RPS.

Abstract

Tuba (Derris elliptica) root was used traditionally as a poison to fish catching. This research looks for beneficial of tuba root extract as an anesthetic for the transport of fish seed. This research aims was to explore the value of effective concentration (EC50 - 1 hr) of tuba root extracts by ethanol and hexane, as well as determine the effect of the effective concentration value and the period of transportation time on the survival and growth of common carp seed. Probit analysis used to determine the effective concentration , whereas to determine the effect of differences of periods of transportation (2 , 4 and 6 hours) and the value of the effective concentration of each solvent on the survival and growth of the research design uses factorial analisis. The results of probit analysis for ethanol and hexane solvent are 6.166 and 3.72 ppm. Transportation showed the highest survival rate at treatment of transportation period 2 hour with values reaching an average of 100%, while the highest growth occurres in hexane treatment on the period of transportation of 6 hours. This results also found that the period of transportation differences significantly affect the survival of common carp seeds but has no significant effect on the growth of common carp other results showed that the difference in the solvent not significantly affect the survival and growth of common carp seed.

Abstract

Eutrofication is an increase of nutrient supply (nitrogen and phosphor) to a very high concentration and above the limit that the nature can cope with. This recent research was aimed to predict the eutrofication  of the waters based on the distribution of nutrients and chlorophyll-a and conducted on November 2012. The research was carried out by considering two main parameters which were main research parameters and supporting parameter over physical, chemical and biological variables. The main research parameters consisted of total N and P, chlorophyll-a and dissolved oxygen of which those variables were the main variables used in the TRIX index analysis (an index used to characterized the trophic status of a body of waters). The fertility status of Kendari Bay based on TRIX index was categorized as eutrophic having TRIX index of 5.12. It is confirmed that the level of nutrient (TN and TP), chlorophyl-a and water clarity determines the fertility status of a water body ranging from oligotrophic to hypertrophic.

Abstract

Zooxanthellae is one food source of clams. Zooxanthellae stay on the mantle tissue and photosynthesis activity. Quantity of photosynthesis is influenced by the zooxanthellae density and type of clam.  This study aims to determine the density zooxanthellae of symbiotic with clams Tridacna squamosa and Hippopus hippopus. The usefulness of the research will provide data and information on the density zooxanthellae of the Tridacna squamosa zooxanthella and Hippopus hippopus clams and as consideration for site selection translocated clams. The study was conducted in August-December 2013 by doing sampling clams in Toli-Toli and Sawapudo village waters. Mantle tissue clams taken 1 cm2 and analyzed in the laboratory. The results showed that Tridacna squamosa has the highest density zooxanthellae compared with Hippopus hippopus. Tridacna squamosa and Hippopus hippopus shell size > 15 cm has the highest density zooxanthellae compared with shell size <15 cm. High suspended solids in the water affect the density zooxanthellae of clams.

Abstract

Growth and survival rate of shrimp affected by feed and water quality factor. Artificial diets is one alternative to improve the growth and survival rate of tiger shrimp. The study aims to determine the effect of substitution of the use of fish Flour with fermented soy flour againts growth and survival rate of tiger shrimp and determine the best treatment that can enhance growth and survival of shrimp.              This research used experimental methode with  completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 3 replications. The results showed that feeding treatment with different compositions will provide significant effect (P <0.05) on the growth and influence of absolute biomass are significantly different (P <0.01) the daily growth rate, but not significantly different at survival. Absolute biomass growth on treatment B hasi best provide for (2422.33 mg) and a row followed by treatment C (2225.87 mg), A (2108.07 mg) and D (1348 mg). The best daily growth were  treatment B (8.15% / day), C (7.91% / day), A (7.82% / day) and D (6.64% / day). Percentage survival of C (72%), B (70%), D (69.33%) and A (64.67%). The results of measurements of water quality parameters as maintenance medium for research is still in a decent range for maintenance of tiger shrimp.

Abstract

Black cumin (Nigella sativa) has been used as an immunostimulant in humpback grouper (Cromileptes altivelis) was infected with Viral Nervous Necrosis (VNN). The addition of 7,5% black cumin in fish feed showed to increase innate immune responsee of humpback grouper. However, then was unknown histopathology effect forward black cumin administration in fish. This research purpose was to know  profile of histopathological humpback grouper stimulated black cumin and infected VNN. Fish was organized in five tanks based on treatment i.e control, VNN infected fish, and VNN infected fish with additional 2,5 %, 5 %, and 7,5 % black cumin in fish feed. Then was five organs i.e brain, eyes, kidney, liver, and gills, that observed each fish sample. Result of this research showed that the addition of black cumin, was not affect histopathology profile in humpback grouper that infected with VNN.
