Abstract

The purposes of this research are to compare: the allocation of land of cassava, the spending of  rice and food consumption patterns, between cassava farmers in the village of implementers and non-implementers of the MP3L (Model Pengembangan Pangan Pokok Lokal) Programme in South Lampung regency.  The research was conducted in Pancasila village and Negara Ratu village, Natar district, South Lampung regency. The number of respondents in the research is 44 people, consisting of 22 cassava farmers in the Pancasila village and 22 of cassava farmers in Negara Ratu village. Analysis method used in this study is a quantitative descriptive.  The results showed that: the allocation of land to plant cassava in Negara Ratu village is wider than in Pancasila village. The land allocation for planting cassava likely caused by the need of farmers to consume cassava and the guarantee of the markets. The average household rice spending at Pancasila village was Rp858,303.03 per capita per year, while the average household rice spending at Negara Ratu village was Rp1,044,121.77 per capita per year. Significant of that difference value was caused by the customs of households at Pancasila village to consume cassava by processing daily, excluding Beras Siger. The desirable food pattern (PPH) score of cassava farmers at Pancasila village (87.8) was higher than PPH score of cassava farmers at Negara Ratu village (80.5).  Reduction of rice has occurred at Pancasila village, but it was not caused by substitution of rice by Beras Siger. Key words: cassava farmers, consumption patterns, land allocation, MP3L

Abstract

This research purposes to study the benefits of Rainforest Alliance (RA) certificate in developing the sustainability of coffee farming from the aspects of economy, environmental,  social  and to analyze the factors that affect farmers to adopt sustainable coffee farming.  The study was conducted in Pulau Panggung Sub Districts of  Tanggamus Regency.  This study compares the coffee farm management of certified farmers and noncertified farmers.  There are 39 farmers chosen from each of coffee farming types.  The benefits of RA certified for sustainability of coffee farming based on the increasing productivity, cost efficiency, and income of farmers were analyzed by t-test. The different test of Mann-Whitney U test is used to analyze the assessment of coffee farming management.  The logit analysis method is used to analyze the factors that influence the farmers’ decisions.   The research results showed that from the economy aspect, RA certification had benefits in terms of farmers management practices to increase the quality and  cost control of coffee, but it had not yet benefit to increase the income, productivity and cost efficiency of coffee farming.  Similarly, RA certification had benefits in terms of environmental and social, in which the results of the assessment of sustainable coffee farm management by certified farmers were significantly higher.  Farmers' income and participation in RA certification program had positive effect on farmers to implement sustainable coffee farming. The data was analyzed by qualitative analysis, multiple linear regression and analysis of the elasticity of demand.  The results showed as follows. The greatest amount of beef demand in the period of July–September 2013 was 0.5-3kg per 3 month, pieces of beef that was being the most widely consumed was chuck as much as 43.61kg per 3 month, frequency of beef consumption as much as 1-3 times in the period of July to September 2013, and a total of 76.64% of households chose the traditional market to buy beef.  Factors affected on beef demand by households in the city of BandarLampung were chicken prices, level of education, income and place of purchase. This study aimed to determine the technical efficiency of soybean farming, the factors that influence the technical efficiency of soybean farming, and to calculate the amount of the income of farmers in soybean farming in SLPTT of Candi  Puro Subdistrict of South Lampung regency.  The research location was selected on purpose (purposive sampling) by the consideration of that the area is a center of soybean production of SL-PTT. The samples number of farmers in the study were 55 farmers. Analyses were performed by using the frontier production function, multiple linear regression, and profit R/C. The results showed that  SL-PTT soybean farming in South Lampung regency was technically inefficient. Technical efficiency of farms in South Lampung regency that was equal to 68.17% and the majority of farmers in the range of 61-70% of technical efficiency. Abstract

Current subsector of public coffee plantations in Lampung Province, especially at the land area  in Way Kanan District is on the wane due to farmers replacing from coffee plants to other crops plantation such as rubber. This research aims to determine the feasibility and compare the surplus value of land as well as to identify the factors that influence farmers in replacing coffee farming into rubber farming. This study was conducted in Banjit, Way Kanan district in July-August 2013 employed financial feasibility analysis methods, land rent analysis and logit analysis. The results showed that the NPV, IRR, Net B/C, Gross B/C, and payback period of two farming were still financially profitable and feasible to be developed. The feasibility valueobtained by rubber farmers still better when compared to coffee farming. Based on the land rent analysis, the surplus value of the land used as production factors of rubber farming was bigger than of coffee farming. While compared to coffee farming itself, the intercropping coffee farming had better value of feasibility and land surplus than the monoculture coffee farming. Thus, the intercropping coffee farming was more viable and economical. The greatest external factors that affected on the replacement of coffee farming into rubber farming were the period of harvest and the price; whereas, the internal factors that had real effect were farmers' income, land area, farming experience and farmer’s age. Key words: Coffee, feasibility, internal and external factors, land rent, rubbe

Abstract

This study aims to determine the decision process of using the hybrid corn seeds, the relationship between the farmer’s characteristics and the decision of hybrid corn seeds, and the factors that influence farmer’s decision to use hybrid corn seeds.  This research was conducted in two villages, namely Sri Katon village and Waringin Sari Timur village of Adiluwih Subdistrict of Pringsewu Regency.  There are 80 respondents in this study that was chosen by disproportionate stratified random sampling.  The method of analysis in this study is factor analysis using Principal Component Analysis (PCA).  The results showed that the farmers decided of using hybrid corn seeds by the process of introduction needs, information searching, alternative evaluation, purchase decision and post-purchase evaluation. The income and experience of farmers were positively related to their decision of using hybrid corn seeds.  There were three dominant factors that influenced the decision of using hybrid corn seeds. The first component was individual differences which were consisted of farmer’s perceptions of the adequacy of hybrid corn seeds, level in the understanding of hybrid corn seeds, and farmer’s perception on the level of residential proximity of agricultural stall.  The second component was farmer’s perception of the product which was consisted of perception about pests and disease of plant resistance, production, and output.  The third component was farmer’s perception about price, consisted of only one variable namely the price of hybrid corn seeds. Key words: decision making, farmers, hybrid corn seed
