Abstract

Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) is one of the nutritional problems which prevalence in Southeast Sulawesi is 21.9%, Kendari City is 14.37%, and Puuwatu Public Health Center is 11.04% (the national target for CED is 5%). The direct cause of CED is low intake of macronutrients such as energy, protein, fat and carbohydrates. During the Covid-19 pandemic, everyone is advised to stay at home so that access to food is very limited and causes a lack of nutritional intake for pregnant women. The study aimed to determine the macronutrient consumption of pregnant women who suffer from CED during the Covid-19 Pandemic. The research was conducted descriptively with a survey design. This research was conducted in June – September 2020 in the Puuwatu Public Health Center, Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi. The research sample was 35 pregnant women in the 3rd trimester who had CED and were taken using saturated samples. Data collection by interview using a form 2x24 hour recall and also anthropometric measurements using microtoice and weight scales. Data were analyzed descriptively and presented in tabular and narrative form. The results showed that the energy and carbohydrate intake of pregnant women was 100% in the category of severe deficit, 91.4% heavy deficit protein intake and 8.6% mild deficit, then fat intake 57.1% severe deficit, 20% mild deficit and 8,6% mild deficit. In conclusion, the intake macronutrient of pregnant women in CED during the Covid-19 pandemic is mostly a severe deficit.

Abstract

Acne vulgaris affects about 85% of adolescents and can last into adulthood. One of the factors that influence the pathogenesis of acne vulgaris is androgens. Androgens have an essential role in stimulating sebum production, which has a significant role in the pathogenesis of acne vulgaris. Obesity is often accompanied by peripheral hyperandrogenism. Obesity can affect the sebaceous glands and sebum production, which is the major factor in the relationship between acne vulgaris and obesity. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between Body Mass Index and the incidence of acne vulgaris. This study used an observational analytic research design with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted at Muhammadiyah 1 Pontianak Senior High School. Samples were taken using simple random sampling. The independent variable in this study was the body mass index while the dependent variable in this study was acne vulgaris. Sampling was conducted by simple random sampling. We used a logistic regression test for data analysis. The results showed that 61% of students experienced acne vulgaris, and 20.7% of students were obese. The statistical test result showed there was a significant positive correlation relationship between BMI and the incidence of acne vulgaris with a value of p <0.05 and OR 2.807. This study concluded that there was a significant positive correlation between BMI and the incidence of acne vulgaris. The incidence of acne vulgaris increased by 2,807 times as the increase of BMI among students in Muhammadiyah 1 Pontianak Senior High School.

Abstract

The prevalence of breast cancer in Indonesia in 2013 was 0.05% and is the second-highest prevalence of cancer after cervical cancer. One of the risk factors for breast cancer is obesity. The prevalence of obesity in women based on Riskesdas 2007 - 2013 has significantly increased (13.9%, 15.5%, and 32.9%). The research objective was to determine the relationship between obesity and the incidence of breast cancer in women in Indonesia. Based on the analysis of the Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) 5 carried out in 2014, data on breast cancer, obesity, and other factors were obtained in 13 provinces. The study design was cross-sectional and used logistic regression data analysis. The analysis showed that the proportion of obese women suffering from breast cancer in 13 provinces in Indonesia was 0.3%. Logistic Regression Analysis showed that obese women had a protective effect of 0.5 times against breast cancer after being controlled by the age variable (POR = 0.4999; 95% CI 0.275 - 0.906). This study concluded that obesity was statistically related to a protective effect against breast cancer in women in 13 provinces in Indonesia in 2014 after being controlled by the age variable. However, the proportion of obesity and breast cancer in Indonesia tends to increase. Therefore, strict supervision of prevention programs for non-communicable diseases in Indonesia is required.

Abstract

Teenage girls are prospective mothers who will give birth to the nation's next generation. Anemia among teenage girls causes the risk of giving birth to low birth weight babies (LBW) so that it has an impact on the optimal quality of life (bleeding, infection, abortion, low birth weight, premature, and defects congenital). Moringa leaves contain high amounts of vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin B, calcium, potassium, iron, and protein which are easily digested and assimilated by the human body. Moringa oleifera based supplements have an impact on pregnant women and prevent adverse pregnancy outcomes. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Moringa leaves extract on increasing hemoglobin levels in teenage girls who drop out of school. This quantitative research was true experimental with the design used was the Randomized Controlled Double-Blind Pre-Posttest by looking after 2 months intervention of giving Moringa leaves extract to teenage girls dropping out of school. The sample criteria used based on the inclusion criteria were obtained as many as 30 teenage girls who dropped out of school which was divided into 15 interventions or given extract moringa leaves a dose of 2x1 with a content of 1000 mg and 15 controls or given TTD with a dose of 2x1 with a content of 1000 mg. The analysis used univariate analysis and bivariate analysis. Then the data collected in this study was processed analytically with a Paired T-test and Independent T-Test. The results showed the difference in hemoglobin levels between the intervention group (p = 0.000) and the control group(p = 0.011). The feeding of Moringa leaves extract capsules had the effect of increasing hemoglobin levels after 2 months of intervention.

Abstract

Pregnancy is a maturation crisis that can be stressful. The maturation crisis can be overcome if the mother is ready to enter a new phase where she is ready to take on the responsibilities of being a parent and a new role so that the mother must take care of her health to prevent complications of pregnancy. Pregnancy complications can be prevented by maintaining the distance of pregnancy between one child with another child through postpartum contraception. The study aimed to determine the characteristics of pregnant women who have sufficient and good knowledge of the use of postpartum contraception. Quantitative research with an exploratory descriptive approach has been carried out on 34 pregnant women who performed antenatal care at the Kedung 2 Jepara Public Health Center. The data collection tool uses a questionnaire. Data were analyzed by univariate analysis using frequency distribution and bivariate analysis using test chi-square. The results showed that the average age of pregnant women was 29 years. The majority of pregnant women had the last high school education, work, and the average income was Rp. 1,500,000/month. The majority of pregnant women had one child and when data were collected for pregnant women who were 1st and 2nd pregnant status. The majority of pregnant women had a good level of knowledge about the use of postpartum injection contraception. The results of the chi-square test analysis showed that the characteristics of pregnant women that had a significant relationship with knowledge about the use of postpartum contraception were age (p = 0.027), education (p = 0.004), occupation (p = 0.002), number of children (p = 0.006). Meanwhile, income did not have a significant relation with maternal knowledge in using postpartum contraception (p = 0.923).

Abstract

Muntingia Calabura L is one of the plants that can reduce hyperglycemia which has an antioxidant effect. This effect is due to its high content of flavonoids that can inhibit the oxidation process. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of fresh and dry cherry leaves decoction in reducing hyperglycemia in mice (Mus-Musculus). The study used a laboratory-experimental design with a glucose induction method using 24 male mice divided into eight groups: positive control (metformin), negative control (aquadest), three groups of cherry leaves (fresh and dry) with a concentration of 5%, 10%, and 15%. Each group consisted of 3 male mice. The results showed that an effective decrease was in the positive control of metformin 113 mg/dl, following a 15% concentration in fresh leaves 88 mg/dl, and 15% dry leaves 79 mg/dl. The conclusion in this study was that there was no significant difference between the stew of fresh cherry leaves and dried cherry leaves. The decoction of fresh cherry leaves and dried cherry leaves were both effective in reducing mouse hyperglycemia at a concentration of 15%. It is suggested for further research to use fresh and dry cherry leaf extract samples using other methods.
