Abstract

This study emphasizes the perception of nursing mothers towards the support of midwives they receive regarding breastfeeding. This mixed-method study was done using a random sampling to determine the sample. The data in this study was obtained by distributing a questionnaire to the mothers of the babies. The quantitative data were analyzed using univariate by STATA software 12 S.E while the qualitative study was done to five midwives using an indept interview. The results obtained were that almost all mothers had a good perception of midwife support because they really received support since the antenatal period through antenatal classes. Therefore, it is recommended for midwives to be able to provide breastfeeding support early on, i.e., by conducting clear counseling about breastfeeding in the antenatal class

Abstract

Working mothers are sometimes likely to have no intention of breastfeeding their babies, including providing their babies with exclusive breastfeeding. This happened at a hospital in Banten Province, Indonesia, where working mothers tended to have no intention of meeting the needs of breast milk for their babies. Interventions to change intentions and attitudes were given, i.e., a program called Emo-Demo initiated by the Indonesian GAIN program. In this study, after the intervention was given, all respondents, including working mothers, intended to breastfeed their babies. By using a Likert scale to determine the attitudes of respondents, after statistical tests, there were differences in the attitudes of mothers before and after the intervention. This means that the Emo-Demo program had succeeded in changing the intentions and attitudes of mothers to give their babies exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Gadgets can indeed distract someone with the fun they get from these gadgets. Children are also affected by the latest technology because of the many applications offered in the gadgets, for example smartphones, that can change their habits to be immersed in a fun program in the gadgets they hold. Therefore, this study aims to determine the magnitude of the impact that can be produced by the use of gadgets on children, especially those aged 3-6 years. This research was conducted in a health post for children with a total of 26 respondents from the parents of the children studied. The instrument used was a questionnaire and a prescreening developmental format with Spearman rank for the statistical test. The result showed that there was a relationship between the use of gadgets and the development of children with a p value of 0.000. Parents’ control over the use of gadgets among children is needed to protect children from addiction that gives adverse impacts.

Abstract

As an alternative to providing energy during late pregnancy and childbirth, dates give many benefits, such as assisting contractions. Dates have high carbohydrate content so that fatigue that occurs during labor, especially in the active phase, can be reduced. By dividing the sample into two groups, namely the experimental group and the control group, the intervention of date palm juice was seen based on the duration of the active phase of labor. It was known that the experimental group had a shorter duration of labor than that of the control group with a p value equal to 0.000. Therefore, date juice is proven to shorten the duration of active phase labor.

Abstract

Early marriages occur in Indonesia and this still contributes to maternal and child mortality. Therefore, research is needed to find out the reasons why the incidence of early marriage can occur. This research was conducted in four sub-districts in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia, by taking respondents based on the technique of snowball sampling. After the interview, several factors had apparently contributed to this early marriage, among others, culture, economic level, level of education, and level of knowledge on marriage. This of course requires a program to increase the age of first marriage by a woman called maturing marriage age. It is hoped that the contributing factors to early marriage will not be repeated in the future when the perpetrators of the early marriage are given an explanation of the importance of delaying the age of marriage to adulthood.

Abstract

Health literacy is a very important part in increasing adolescent knowledge about reproductive health. This can be directed, one of them, by counseling. With various problems experienced by adolescents, this study aimed to see whether counseling given to adolescents in an area in central Jakarta, Indonesia, could provide significant results. This pre-experimental study recruited 28 adolescents to be given pretest and posttest with the theme of adolescent reproductive health. With validity and reliability tests conducted, the teenagers were given a questionnaire about reproductive health between the pretest and posttest, with intervention given in the form of counseling between the two tests. The results shown were that there was a significant difference between pretest and posttest done by the respondents after counseling was given to increase reproductive health literacy with a value of p <0.05.

Abstract

This qualitative study provides an illustration that a midwife must follow the recommendations by the International Confederation of Midwives that the care given to the clients must be holistic. This should also occur in the consultation given during the antenatal visit about the ideal range of weight gain for each individual client along with the recommended amount of calorie intake. Therefore, when the two basic kinds of knowledge are less mastered by midwives, the care will be less holistic. Therefore, collaboration with nutritionists can be done when the midwife has detected what has happened to her client. With the correct mastery of competencies, the practice of midwifery care will become holistic and comprehensive.

Abstract

Working mothers are suspected of having links with the increase in excess weight (overweight and obesity) in children. Working mothers would be faced with a 'barter' situation of getting the least time spent with their children with the increasing family income. With little time the mothers spend with their children, they might lose control of the intake of food consumed by their children. When children eat more fast food containing high fat and sugar, the children will be more at risk for having excess weight. In fact, excess weight increases the children to suffer from diseases that were once only often suffered by adults. Diseases such as cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus are getting more common in children. Especially for girls, they will experience the process of pregnancy someday. Of course, obesity experienced by them will impact on the pregnancy when they remain obese as adults. Obesity in pregnancy may be at risk of the emergence of gestational diabetes that will allow bearing obese children as well. Therefore, before bad things happen in families with regard to the health of families, parents, especially mothers, should pay attention to the intake of foods consumed by children and devote more time to children in their growth period for Indonesia’s better generation.
