Abstract

Writing is the most important skill that we should consider because the student must know how to write a text grammatically and correctly. Descriptive text is a piece of text that describes a place, person, or thing. This research was aimed to analysis of students’ difficulties in writing descriptive text at grade seventh students of SMP Daar Al-Falah in Tanjngbalai.. In this research, researcher uses the quantitative description data. The most problems faced by the students were grammar and organization with a total mean 75, 18. And based on the result of this research, there are 16 students who able in writing descriptive text by percentage 73%. And there are 6 students who unable in writing descriptive text by percentage 27, 27%. This suggested that teacher cold more improve their skill in the descriptive text in an interesting way or strategy. Keywords: Writing, Descriptive text,.

Abstract

This study aimed to find the reflection about synchronous learning using Zoom Meeting for EFL university students of UIN SU Medan in online learning during Covid-19 Pandemic. This study used qualitative research with descriptive method. The data was collected through interviews. The participants of this research were ten EFL university students of UIN SU Medan. The result of this study are presented descriptively to reveal the students’ reflections of Zoom Meeting comprehensively. The results of this study show that english online learning through Zoom Meeting has some benefits for students in their learning namely listening, reading and speaking, and students also faced some obstacles while using Zoom Meeting as an online learning medium.

Abstract

This research aims to find out how students' perception of the use of Duolingo application in learning English. This research was conducted in SMP Swasta IT Al-Fattah Desa Lama. A qualitative method was used for this research and there were 20 students in the ninth class as the sample of this research. In collecting the data, this research used a questionnaire and interview. The findings took the result that most students agree and gave a positive response than the negative one of the use of Duolingo application in learning English during Covid-19. Duolingo application gave the benefits and contribution to both the students and teachers in learning English. 1) This application made the students feel enjoyable in learning English and made the learning process became fun during this Covid 19 pandemic; 2) This application gave a significant impact and increased students' knowledge and improved their English during this Covid 19 pandemic; 3) Using this application, the students had a chance to improve their English whenever they want to learn it. The conclusion could be taken that the students had positive responses and perceptions in using Duolingo application for learning English.

Abstract

This action research aims to find out if picture is the best work to improve students’ vocabulary at eighth grade (VIII-2) students of MTs Negeri 1 Muna. In this study, the researcher used an action research method which consists of four steps planning action, implementation, observation and reflection. The sample of 29 students were chosen by purposive sampling. The data were collected from observation, questionary and vocabulary test. In analyzing the data, the writer used qualitative and quantitative approach. The finding stressed that picture can help students in gaining vocabulary. This was proved by comparing the result of students’ score in preliminary research to the next cycle. After using picture card for first cycle, the students got 32.57. There was an improvement on students’ vocabulary in the second cycle. They got 55 on average. Another improvement occurred on the third cycle; they gained 81 on average as evidence that they reached the minimum target.

Abstract

This study focused on university students’ perceptions on democratic classroom management. This research investigated the effectiveness of democratic classroom management. The population of this study were the fifth semester students of class C1 of Muhammadiyah University of North Sumatera majoring in Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD). They consisted of 35 students. This research was conducted with qualitative method. The writer used questionnaire as the instrument of interview. The research findings indicated some important things. To begin with, students responded positive about democratic classroom management practices that have been implemented in the classroom for about 9 meetings. It means, the teacher has successfully practiced the democratic classroom management in her class. Next, knowing democratic classroom management helps university students to be more courageous, active and responsible for their own learning. They can express their ideas and opinions without being afraid to be judged. Lastly, for teachers, the student survey provides information to evaluate their own teaching practices, to improve the democratic classroom management style. Developing a democratic classroom management requires significant and consistent effort  and in the joint work of teachers and active students through all stages of the teaching-learning process.

Abstract

This research that has been conducted entitled "The Use of Code-Switching By Teacher In Classroom Interaction At MAN 2 Model Medan" which is motivated by the fact that there are differences in abilities between teachers and students in using and understanding English so make the teacher adjust the language gap so that code-switching occurs between students and teachers in classroom interaction. Code-switching is a communication between people use two or more language. The research methodology in this study use a qualitative method where the data collected by the researcher was by triangulation method that are observation, documentation and interview the teacher. The results obtained by the researcher are three types of code-switching used by teachers in classroom interaction, those are tag switching, inter-sentential switching, and intra-sentential switching. Based on those three types, the dominant types that are most often used by the teacher is inter-sentential switching. The teacher use code switching because of talking about particular topic, quoting somebody else, showing empathy, interjection, repetition, expressing group identity, and to clarify about the content. Based on the finding of the research, it can be concluded that code-switching can be used by teacher in classroom interaction because code-switching as the solution of the language gap between teacher and student.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the development of a Hybrid learning model in Translation: English-Indonesian learning for UINSU English Tadris students. researchers use the Borg and Gall model through ten steps. 30 research subjects were taken from the UINSU English Tadris study program population. Data were collected by observation techniques, questionnaires, and tests. Data analysis techniques use percentages, mean, and t-tests. The results of the validation research from experts I and II on the design of the hybrid learning model were an average of 4.34 in the very good category. Field test results I; average paratest 6.17 and posttest 6.60. Field test II average parates 6.63 and posttest 7.65. Field test III average paratest 6.72 and posttest 7. 69. Different test results through t-test on learning motivation t-count 9.254, student creativity 9.796, and learning outcomes 9.840 and it turns out that t-count> t-table 2.136 is proven there is a significant difference before using the model and after using the hybrid learning model. The conclusion of the study is that the hybrid learning model developed in this study is effectively used in Translation: English-Indonesian learning for UINSU English Tadris Program students.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to find out the functions of rhetocial moves and to find out the negative effects of rhetorical moves by Josep Biden. This research used the qualitative design. The data source of this research is the script that will be taken from Youtube channel. The channel containes news about the United States of American President, Joseph Biden, in announcing of oil banning over Ukraine conflict.The research shows that there are three distinct registers, namely the "formal," "consultative," and "casual" registers. The formal register predominates by a factor of 19% over any other. The objective of this formal register is to facilitate communication. Many individuals continue to be ill-equipped with register skills. They are unsure of how to properly construct sentences. They are hesitant to use such language. However, the register experiment will teach us how to use register effectively.
