Abstract

Immanuel Kant is a philosopher who successfully defines ethicsin terms of moral imperatives, not in terms of efforts to attain happiness.He also proposes a rational metaphysics as opposed to the speculativemetaphysics. In the context of rational metaphysics, Kant leads his moralphilosophy to religion, even though the latter is not directly put as thefoundation of the former.

Abstract

Kertas ini menganalisis metode tafsīr al-‘ilmī (saintifik) yang digariskan dalam kitab Tafsīr al-Qur’ān al-Ḥakīm atau Tafsīr al-Manār oleh Shaykh Muḥammad cAbduh (1849-1905) dan Rashīd Riḍā (1865-1935). Karya ini mengemukakan manhaj tafsir akliah yang mempan yang menekankan kefahaman rasional dan saintifik terhadap ayat-ayat al-Qur’an. Tulisan ini akan membincangkan latar belakang pentafsir, pandangan dan pemikiran saintifik yang diangkat dalam karya mereka, idealisme pembaharuan yang digagaskan dan manhaj yang diketengahkan dalam tafsiran ayat-ayat yang berkait dengan ittijāh ‘ilm (saintifik). Kitab ini merumuskan manhaj saintifik yang jitu dan menzahirkan apresiasi yang tinggi terhadap upaya ijtihad dan istinbat. Kajian ini akan memetakan ide dan menganalisis kekuatan metode yang dilakarkan dalam mencetus pencerahan akal, sains, antropologi, sosiologi, dan budaya, dan pengaruhnya terhadap karya-karya tafsir di abad moden.

Abstract

Buya HAMKA, a prominent Indonesian Muslim leader, poet, author, historian, and educator, was so instrumental to Indonesian scientific development, especially for the world of Islam in Indonesia. The greatest work of him is his commentary entitled Tafsir al-Azhar. This article explains about the methodology of HAMKA’s interpretation on Qur’anic verses. In the conclusion, Tafsir al-Azhar can be classified as tafsîr bi al-ma’tsûr based on it source, with tahlîlî method because it is begun from Surah al-Fâtihah until Surah al-Nâs, muqârin method for its explanation, and categorized as tafsîr tafshîlî too according to his width exploration in the tafsir. While the feature of his tafsir is dominated by adâbî ijtimâ’î with the beauty of Malayan language related to the social reality in his era. After all, his tafsir is being easy to understand for Indonesian people as the majority reader of it.

Abstract

The plurality of religion is undeniable and it should be theologically un-derstood as civilized relations among different religions and beliefs. Theo-logical dialogue is needed to establish mutual understanding and peacefulrelations among religions. This theology is called ‘theology of harmony’ inwhich one can put his/her faith in the same line with faith of other people.

Abstract

Transmisi dan difusi ilmu-ilmu keislaman sepanjangsejarahnya hampir selalu melibatkan semacam “jaringan ulama”. Prosesterbentuknya jaringan ulama ini tidak dapat dipisahkan dariperkembangan tradisi Islam sendiri. Tidak diragukan hadis merupakancabang ilmu yang secara khusus memiliki peran signifikan. Dalam studidan transmisi hadis terdapat sebuah tradisi keilmuan yang dikenal dengan“al-rihlat fî thalab al-hadîts”. Selain itu, sistem jaringan sanad (isnâd)yang sangat dipentingkan dalam transmisi hadis juga mempunyaipengaruh nyata dalam pembentukan jaringan ulama.

Abstract

The problem of human actions has been an important discoursein Islamic theology. The main problem here is that how humans actionsare understood in relation to God. Are human actions created by humanbeings themselves or by God? Muslim theologians have different answersto this question. This article discusses the opinions of the Asy’aritetheologians, namely al-Asy’ari, al-Baqillani, al-Juwaini and al-Ghazali.Although these theologians are in the same school of Asy’arism, theyhave similar as well as different opinions on this important issue.

Abstract

Knowing Allah and uniting Him is a concept of monotheism which is called for by the Qur'an and conveyed by the Prophet Muhammad. to his people. Thus it is an obligation for Muslims to study it seriously and deeply. Among the teachings of this monotheism are the verses that inform that Allah is close to His creatures, even Allah Himself is with His creatures wherever they are. These verses and their meanings can cause some Muslims to misunderstand them. Because, the verses seem to state that God is in the heart or God is united or together with His creatures, even God is everywhere. Information on the verse of the Qur'an that mentions Allah is near or Allah is with His servants, of course it cannot be understood simply that Allah is close as close to one thing as another. Or God is one with man as understood by some Sufis. If this is the case, it is clearly contrary to the principles of monotheism taught by the holy Qur'an. To find out what the meaning of the closeness and togetherness of Allah is, this paper tries to trace the answer through M. Quraish Shihab's Tafsīr al-Mishbāh.

Abstract

Hermeneutics is a new method in understanding and meaning of the hadiths. It used by some contemporary moslem scholars. One of them is Fatima Mernissi. She concentrates to misoginic hadiths that discriminate women. In this article, the author tries to see her hermeneutics methodology. The methodology that is offered by Fatima Mernissi in studying hadith is double investigation with psycho-history as her approach. There are two steps in her method, that are historical aspect and methodology aspect. The first step is analyzing situation and condition that happen when hadith released and then, analyzing about the first transmitter, when, why and to whom that hadith is released.

Abstract

Nama atau sebutan Syi'ah memang sudah tidak asing bagi kita. Akan tetapitentang aspek pemikiran teologi yang mewarnai doktrin akidah mereka belumbanyak diketahui. Tulisan ini merupakan suatu kajian yang berupaya mengungkapaspek pemikiran teologi yang mewarnai doktrin akidah kaum Syi'ah. Deskripsihasil kajian ini menggambarkan bahwa pemikiran teologi yang paling kuat memberiwarna bagi doktrin akidah kaum Syi'ah yang membuat berbedanya doktrin akidahmereka dari akidah yang dianut umat Islam pada umumnya ialah tentang imâmahdan rukun iman. Imâmah ialah kepemimpinan pengganti Nabi setelah beliau wafatdan kepemimpinan seterusnya. Menurut kaum Syi'ah, imam (pemimpin) umatsetelah Nabi wafat adalah ‘Alî bin Abi Thâlîb dan kemudian dilanjutkan secaraturun-temurun olah keturunannya. Imam-imam itu oleh mereka dianggap sebagaiorang-orang yang ma'shûm, yakni terpelihara dari berbuat dosa atau kesalahan.Bagi mereka kepercayaan terhadap imâmah ini adalah bagian dari akidah. Karenaitu, mereka menjadikan imâmah salah satu rukun iman. Rukun iman bagi merekaterdiri dari Tauhid, Kenabian, Hari Kemudian, dan Imâmah. Dari sini terlihat segiperbedaan doktrin akidah kaum Syi'ah dari ajaran akidah yang dianut umat Islampada umumnya.

Abstract

The study of ethics as a philosophical subject has been rare in Islamic tradi-tion compared to other subjects. It is in this context that a study of ethicscontained in Ibn al-Muqaffa’s Kalîlah wa Dimnah is very important. ForIbn al-Muqaffa’, the position of ethics is higher than religion itself. Thus,one should do a good thing, even though religion does not command it. Heargues that to live a life in accordance with moral values will lead a personto happiness and dignity. It is significant that he uses fables to communi-cate his ethical ideas. Through fables, he can persuade people to use not onlyreason, but also emotion and imagination, to understand ethics.
