Abstract

The independence of the Republic of Korea in 1945 brought the impact of rapid infrastructure development in South Korea through a policy of increasing Foreign Investment. It also pushed the pace of modernization in rural South Korea, and also changed the face of rural culture in South Korea. The main changes perceived are demographic changes by depopulation and liberalization of agricultural imports. In addition, the traditional games of Kossa'um and traditional ceremonies also changed. Kossa'um or rope battle is currently one of the sports in the Olympics

Abstract

This article deals with Islamic guidence and the Javanese culture acculturated within the tradition of selametan which is named slup-slupan in Rembang, Central Java. There are several meaningful symbols on this tradition according to the Javanese people, that these meanings have been originally changed by the Islamic guidence. The study shows that Javanese culture has been well acculturated to the Islamic guidence in the tradition of slup-slupan in Rembang.

Abstract

Nowdays, the people of Indonesia face some crisis as a result of modernization and globalization.. One most alarming crisis is the weak character that caused demoralization of the social life of the Indonesian nation. This nation will be able to take advantage of modernization and globalization for the progress and superiority, when she has strong character and resilient. Character formation can be done through education from school, community, and family. Character education materials can be sourced from religion, five principles of Pancasila, and local wisdom. One local wisdom has come from the philosophy of Sosrokartono, laden content of values forming the character of Indonesian nation. There are seven values forming the character, as part of the eighteen values formulated by the Ministry of National Education, which can be taken from the philosophy of Sosrokartono. These seven values to forming character that can be taught and disseminated to the public include religious values, honesty, friendly and communicative, love of peace, social care, responsibility, and humanity.

Abstract

Tambak Lorok is a coastal area located near the Tanjung Mas Harbour, where many residents work as fishermen. These residents living in Tambak Lorok are mostly using the traditional way to work on a fishing operation. They use a simple utility to catch fish. This paper mainly discusses about the structure of the community citizens of Tambak Lorok. Since they live near the offshore, oftenly they are called as a coastal community.  As citizens which depend so much on the sea to fulfill their needs, many hunt fish. The description on this local society can be divided on the basis of their occupation, gender, social, and economy

Abstract

Indonesia which is known by its diversity of cultures, ethnics, races, and religions can create differences which could trigger massive social conflicts. Social conflict which happened in Ambon has been one example that could tear the nation apart. In post conflict period, Pela Gandong as a local wisdom is proven to maintain the relationship in Moluccas. The culture of Pela Gandong, could be a form of national unity that can be a model to the attempt to the cohesion of the Indonesian society. The Pela Gandong is a part of Moluccas culture that contains moral value such as tolerance, unity, respect, equality, and peace. It is worth to be delivered for college students, due to the fact that college students are an important element in the modern Indonesian society. College students are the agent of change for Indonesia future. To deliver Pela Gandong culture to college students, there is a need of media which is more interactive and can simulate a society life in the future. Board game is one of the media that can simulate that condition well. Descriptive method will be used to carry out this research. The result of this research is a board game which can deliver moral values and culture of Pela Gandong.

Abstract

The change of economic resources in society also often followed by changes of social relations between community members. In remote area of Indonesia, the role of women in the family economy commonly is only a complementary role. However, in the village of Kuala Rosan, the family's economic responsibility is also taken by women, due to the growth of rubber and palm agriculture in the village of Kuala Rosan which needs more labor. This article is the result of a study conducted in the village of Kuala Rosan, Kecamatan Meliau, Kabupaten Sanggau, West Kalimantan, using qualitative research method with descriptive analysis. The results showed that women have a significant economic role. The views on women also change, as changes in their role within the household, women have more access to economic resources. However, men remain important decision makers in the household.

Abstract

Misinterpretation of discourse often occurs in daily life. In conveying the idea or message actually speaker or writer has tried to convey the idea in order that hearer clear. However, in reality it is not. Why there was an error of interpretation of discourse in daily life are discussed in this paper. This study analyzes data in the form of oral discourse and written discourse in society that contains errors of interpretation. The method used to collect data is by recording technique and further noted the data that were analyzed by using discourse interpretation referring to the context. This study results that misinterpretation discourse was usually caused by the speaker who did not know the hearer, pause used by the speaker was not clear, speakers was wrong to write the word, hearer misheard, hearer did not know the word or term, hearer did not understand, hearer was not appropriate, topics of the conversation changed, the difference between the speaker's presuppositions and hearer, and time setting

Abstract

This paper is concerned with the rituals of Dayak tribe that are performed before, during, and after a war. Dayak tribe is one of many tribes in Indonesia that is very conservative towards their cultural tradition. The rituals were conserved until Tumbang Anoi treaty in 1894. The rituals are rarely performed as Dayak tribe tries to avoid war with other Dayak tribes since Dayak has 405 clans or other tribes. Before Tumbang Anoi treaty, Dayak tribe was active in performing the rituals as there were wars among their clans or against colonialist. After Tumbang Anoi treaty, Dayak is rarely involved in war except they feel that their pride or tradition is humiliated. Nowadays, the rituals which consist of ceremonies, dances, and headhunting or Kayau are only performed as guests reception except the headhunting part

Abstract

As the pre-industrial city, Semarang in the early days of developing traditional, centered on residential Regent (Kanjengan), mosques and squares surrounded by township residents that were grouped on the basis of occupation, race, ethnicity, religion and profession. Entering the 19th century, the city of Semarang grew following the planning concepts and structure of modern (Western) style, namely as an industrial city, with the characteristics and patterns different from the traditional city. As a modern city Semarang rests on the modern street system. Until recently the township-village still exists in the city, although not functioning as before.
