Abstract

The immediate popularity of Kiat Esemka is an indication of people’s rejection to neocolonialism of the global era. Globalization is identical with capitalism, the root of neo-colonialism. As a not-yet-developed country, Indonesia is often victimized by the free market system, leaving her people disempowered through consumptivism. But eventhough globalization is such a strong trend, due to its lack of values, people are still adhered to nationalism, as a sentiment relevant and useful to protect their identity and sustenance. The idea of creating a national car embodies this spirit of anti-colonialism.  http://ejournal.undip.ac.id/index.php/humanika/article/view/2909

Abstract

An ethical life in the perspective of Taoism is a life back to nature. Man must be able to understand how to relate to ethical meaning of the laws of nature and implement them in social relationship. This natural ethics of Taoism teaches that life must be equipped by virtue, which is a pure heart, sincerety, and willingness to care for the needs of fellow human beings. Taoist law of virtue contains universal values, thus make it important as an ethical consideration for Indonesian society which is experiencing a turbulent moral situation where morality is under-appreciated and a transitional political culture from the era of power-oriented bureaucracy to an era of democratic society advocating people’s sovereignty.   Keywords: taoism, natural ethics.

Abstract

Moslem women is instructed by Quran and the prophet to cover their bodies with hijab. This instruction is based on the religious duty for every moslem woman to keep her honor while practicing her important role in the society. Recognizing that Islam pays respect and does teach gender equality and woman’s basic rights, hijab should be in no way limiting women’s freedom both in daily life or professional career like many accusers of hijab argue. Islam views women as having an equal position with men in jihad, worship, and work, while still maintaining their honor and religious duties. Even in this modern era, hijab may become a symbol of one’s (woman’s) conscious chosen identity, faith, and integrity.   Keywords: hijab, gender equality, basic woman rights

Abstract

Epikuros regards pleasure as the highest life purpose of human being and then he defines the real pleasure in a concept named ataraxia, i.e. tranquility or quietness. To experience pleasure, one needs to learn how to use each desire to attain health and the tranquility of soul. Hence human being should be wise in responding or handling his desires in order he may arrive at his true purpose of life. Fraternity and friendship are urgent instruments to achieve pleasure. Epikuros also maintain that pleasure should be understood as the balance between physical and spiritual, between individual and social, man-as-an-independent-self and man-as-the-creature-of-God aspects of man.   Keywords: hedonism, comfort, wisdom, ataraxia, tranquility.

Abstract

The animality of man we can fairly grasp, but perplexities arise when we try to define the humanity of man. Contemporary, modern human knowledge tends to describe the essence of man as a kin of animal or a type of machine. Those descriptions elude the essential modes of man which are preciousness, uniqueness, opportunity, nonfinality, process and events, solitude and solidarity, reciprocity, and sanctity. Through further elaboration on the essence of humanity as a being between animality and divinity, in Heschel’s concept of man we may find a remedy to dehumanization as the contemporary human’s plight and problems, especially as it emerges in our country as violent cases against humanity.   Keywords: humanity, humanization, dehumanization, modern human, essential modes of man

Abstract

The environment problem is an urgent issue nowadays. Degrading quality of our living environment is a step towards the destruction of the future of human beings. Nature then should be treated humanly with a communal sense of responsibility. This problem is indeed our collective responsibility which involves each individual, family, society, and nation. As a cultural being, all human actions ideally should be based upon morality and ethical values, and this ideal includes how we treat the environment. To cultivate a responsible management of environement thus should be imperative. We find here the fundamental value of environmental ethics in creating a cultured relationship among human beings and their environment.  http://ejournal.undip.ac.id/index.php/humanika/article/view/2902
