The CMES (Center of Middle Eastern Studies) journal is a distinguished peer-reviewed academic publication dedicated to advancing rigorous scholarly research on Middle Eastern studies. It publishes high-caliber research articles, theoretical studies, and critical reviews that engage with both contemporary and historical issues relevant to the region, employing a multidisciplinary approach. The CMES journal serves as a dynamic intellectual platform for researchers, academics, and practitioners to exchange innovative findings and perspectives, advancing Middle Eastern studies through a multidisciplinary framework grounded in the epistemological foundations of the humanities and social sciences. In the humanities, the journal emphasizes linguistics, literature, and Arab culture, while in the social sciences, it focuses on politics, economics, education, and the social dimensions of Arab societies. CMES encourages scholarly work that engages these disciplines through monodisciplinary inquiry, interdisciplinary synthesis, or transdisciplinary dialogue, fostering conceptual integration and methodological interaction across disciplinary boundaries. Manuscripts submitted to CMES must be pertinent to Middle Eastern studies and demonstrate clear engagement with the epistemic traditions of their respective fields. Abstract

The discussions in this examination are : (1) How the structure of literature builds the story  with prominent character in drama manuscript ‚Luzūmu Mā Lā Yalzamu‛ based on theory of structural Abdul-Bāsith Abdur-Razāq Badr, (2)How characteristic and conflict prominent character in drama manuscript ‚Luzūmu Mā Lā Yalzamu‛  based on the theory of psychoanalysis from SigmundFreud. The Method used in this examination is descriptive qualitative. The purposes of this examination are: (1) Describing the structure which builds the story with prominent character in drama manuscript Luzūmu Mā Lā Yalzamu‛ based on theory of structural „Abdul-Bāsith „Abdur-Razāq Badr, (2)Describing characteristic and conflict prominent character in drama manuscript ‚Luzūmu Mā Lā Yalzamu‛ based on theory of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud. From the analysis can be concluded some cases, they are : First, the condition and spirit of development cannot separated from external influence, that is psychology influence appeared from positive or negative outside thestrength. In addition it cannot be separated again from internal influence of  eachself. Internal influence defined as psychological strength appeared from threesystems of personality, they are id, ego, superego. Second, in drama manuscript Luzūmu Mā Lā Yalzamu‛ part of characteristic and conflict cover prominentcharacter springed by external push. These of mistakes and deviations done byother characters make prominent character, investigator, experienced the conflictand get classification of emotion. These matters make investigator doesmechanism of defense towards the conflicts he faced.

Abstract

This research discusses the following: (1) How is the text structure of Hārūt Wa Mārūt play script by Alī Achmad Bākatsīr? (2) How is the authors‟ world view which is reflected in Hārūt Wa Mārūt play script? The objectives of this research are: (1) To describe the text structure of Hārūt Wa Mārūt play script by Alī Achmad Bākatsīr (2) To describe the author‟s world view Hārūt Wa Mārūt play script by Alī Achmad Bākatsīr. According to the result of this research, the following conclusion can be drawn: first, from the text structure there are three visions as follows: the vision of God which is represented by the characters with the divinity characteristics such as virtue and fidelity; the vision of world which is represented by the characters with worldliness or secular characteristics with badness tendency; and the vision of human which is represented by the characters with human characteristics who is setting out their desire. Second, the author wants to deliver his ideology which has Islamic reformer by putting the precept of God into his works and combining it in history or politic which is related to the reality. World view obtained after theresearch is social realism.

Abstract

This research discuss about the Arabic relative clause with some problems of grammatical elements that can be relativized, relativization strategies that is used, and grammatical relations that is derived from the head of noun phrase in Arabic relative clause. The theory that is used in this research is the typology theory  proposed by Comrie. The data that is used in this research is a written data which is taken from two short stories in Arabic that includes simple sentences.  This research applied qualitative descriptive research method including three stages: data collection, data analysis, and presentation of the results. The method that is used in this research are the tapping technique, observation technique, and note technique as a method of providing data. Direct segmenting constituents technique, deletion technique, permutation technique, and expansion technique as the method of data analysis, and informal techniques as the method of presenting the results of the data analysis.  The results showed that in Arabic sentences some position which can be relativized are subject, direct object, indirect object, and oblique. Elements of Arabic sentences that can be relativized apply the gap strategy, pronoun-retention, and relative-pronoun. The head of noun phrase is not only can be use in the same position of the second clause but also can be use in different position in each clause. Grammatical relation that is derived from the head of noun phrase from the relative clauses are (1) Subject of main clause and Subject of the relative clause; (2) Direct Object of main clause and Direct Object of relative clause; (3) Direct Object of main clause and Subject of relative clause; (4) non-Direct Object of main clause and Subject of relative clause; (5) Oblique of main clause and Oblique of relative clause; and (6) Oblique of main clause and Direct Object of relative clause.

Abstract

This study analyzed the problem about the phenomenon of cultural transformationin Turkey. (1) to explain the process of cultural transformation on the system ofgovernment and politics and religion from the Ottoman Empire until the modern ofRepublic Turkey. (2) to explains how the forms of changes to the Turkey culture, with thefactors that become the cause a process of cultural transformation that is  a process ofrenewal and change in Turkey to the modern age. Along with the problems of the research objectives above, this research wasconducted by applying library research. The process of analysis in this study usesqualitative analysis inductive. techniques of data collection in this study is the observation techniques and analysis of documents. Analysis of the data in this study using an interactive model of analysis, that is data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing.  Based on the result of this research, it can be concluded that the process of culturaltransformation in Turkey is caused that; (1) the influx of outside culture for changingvalues because the process of global and universal communications; (2) internal creativity that forming intellectual innovation with the new discoveries; (3) the pressures and influences from outside, from the West and Europe; and (4) change of the form of renewal, reform and transformation. Politics, culture and religion be an important factor in the effort to change process in Turkey. Transformation of culture in Turkey contains three basic concepts of mind, that is analytical, historical, and practical.

Abstract

This discussions in this research are the variation of phonological acquisition of Arabic and the factors that determine the success of the phonological acquisition of Arabic. The purposes of this research are describing the variation of phonological acquisiton of Arabic and describing the factors that determine the success of phonological acquisition of Arabic. The data collection used simak and cakap methods. The instruments of data collection were questionnaire of 186 vocabularies of minimal pairs, test of personality, grammatical competence, and attitude toward Arabic. The data analysis used padan method which depended on informant‟s speech organ and pragmatis. The techniques of the methods were PUP (Pilah Unsur Penentu) and HBB (Hubung Banding Memperbedakan). Those techniques distinguished between the consonants, vowels, diphthongs, semivowels, and the factors that determine the success of phonological acquisiton of Arabic. This research showed two results : First, the variation of phonological acquisition of Arabic are consonants, vowels, diphthongs, and semivowels. Consonants divided into three, according to the sounds making process, consonants consist of plossive, fricative, affricative, and liquid. According to thevibrate of vocal cords, consonants consist of voiced and voiceless. According to the movement of other articulators, consonant is velarization. The variation of vowels are short vowels (/a/, /i/, /u/) and long vowels (/a:/, /i:/, /u:/). The diphthongs are /aw/ and /ay/. The semivowels are /w/ and /y/. Second, the factors that determine the phonological acquisition of Arabic are family background, age, health, intelligence, aptitude, persistence, motivation, knowledge about Arabic and attitude towards Arabic, and environment.

Abstract

The aims of this research are: (1) To describe the phenomenon of metalmusic in Saudi Arabia in the range of 1995-2010. (2) To explain the factors ofmetal music infiltration to Saudi Arabia. (3) To explain the identity of performermetal music in Saudi Arabia. Kind of research used in this thesis is qualitative research with descriptivemethod. Descriptive method is a method in researching the status of a group orpeople, an object, a certain condition, a system of thought, or an event in thepresent. Data collection technique used is literature research. Data analysis in thisstudy is using a qualitative analysis that includes: data collection, data reduction(summary) the data, data presentation and conclusion. This research resulted in several conclusions (1) The phenomenon of metalmusic in Saudi Arabia is the globalization process of metal music in the world,especially in the Middle East countries. Metal music is a genre of modern musicwhich has been evolving around the 1990s in the area of Saudi Arabia. (2) Ingeneral, there are two factors that brought metal music into the country of SaudiArabia, namely internal and external ones. The internal factor is the growth ofyoung people under 29 years old accounted for two thirds of the total populationof Saudi Arabia. The external factor is information technology development suchas the internet. The identity of metal music performers in Saudi Arabia is differentfrom the identity of metal music performers in general. Saudi Arabia metal groupidentity can be seen in Saudi Arabia Metal which is the first organization of rockand metal in Saudi Arabia.

Abstract

This research is trying to analyze the translation of passive clause arrangement patterns and its results accuracy in Maulidul-Barzanjiy text. The objectives of this research are: (1) to describe translation product of passive clauses in Maulidul-Barzanjiy text, (2) to measure translation product accuracy inMaulidul-Barzanjiy text based on meaning equivalence. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative one. The data sources are Maulidul-Barzanjiy text by Sidqi and Anwar (2013) and five respondents. In the first problem, the data were collected by non-interactive method: selecting passive clauses from target text which have translation equivalences with source text. Meanwhile, in the second problem, the data were collected by interactive method using questionare and interview to five respondents. There are five patterns of clauses arrangement patterns found, they are: fuʻila-yufʻalu mafʻūl al-fiʻlul-maʻlūm+dhamīr  ismul-mashdar+ dhamīr wal-makān wal-chāl+dhamīr shīghatul- and ismu‘z-zamān.Comparative descriptive analysis is used for analyzing the data analysis in the first problem, while the second one is analyzed by using interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and verification. The result of this study can be concluded as follows: first, passive clause in Maulidul-Barzanjiy text has five patterns of arrangement. The comparison of all patterns is 27% derived from fiʻl majhūl whereas 73% derived from fiʻl maʻlūm, shīghah mafʻūl, ism mashdar, ism zamān, ism makān, and chāl. Second, the translation of Maulidul-Barzanjiy text is accurate. Its accuracy score is 2,6 from decimal completing of 2,560256. The score appeared because of source text was translated to target text without meaning distortion, namely addition and deletion in translating text which can change meanings. Addition and deletion in translating text are merely aimed to help readers comprehend the translation product.

Abstract

This research discussed : (1) How the sufi dance lasts? (2) What is thesymbolic meaning of sufi dance movements and it‟s message that wanted to bedelivered ? This research used qualitative method which is presented descriptively bydescribe Sufism in general, Sufism flow, Sufism development, describe Sufidance in term of it‟s development, symbolic meaning are the meaning of sufidance movement and the clothing which were worn by the sufi dancers.  Based on the result of this research conclude  are  : first, sufi dance is identicwith Sufism and the figures who influence this dance. Second, sufi dancemovements have a message that wanted to be delivered to everyone. Third, sufidance has a function as syi‘ar of Islam.
