JUSPI (Jurnal Sejarah Peradaban Islam) publishes scientific articles in the fields of historical, social and humanities. JUSPI invites academics to publish their research articles, especially historical, social and humanities studies with Islamic themes, for example about Islamic groups or communities, Muslim minorities, culture and traditions, education, organization and politics, civilization, heritage and architecture, social change, intellectual and thought, biography, historiography, press and literacy, as well as science and technology. The editor also received a book review to be published in a special section of the publication. The articles can be written to be submitted in Indonesia and English. JUSPI is published by the Department of Sejarah Peradaban Islam, Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara. It is published twice a year in July and January.

Abstract

In the course of the missionary history which has been exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad, especially in Medina, propaganda of prophets made significant progress. Especially after the passing of Piagam Madinah. The success of propagation of prophets in Medina can not be separated from the use of models of propaganda by the Prophet Muhammad. There are some interesting da'wah models for further analysis. The model of dakwah in question is the model of dakwah Ukhuwah Wathaniyah and Ukhuwah Basyariah. As for Ukhuwah Wathaniyah is one of the dakwah method that was propagated by Prophet Muhammad saw in order to live a sense of love and belonging to the state, which in this case is Medina. While Ukhuwah Basyariah is a method of propagation which is intensified by the Prophet Muhammad in order to foster the spirit of brotherhood on the basis of humanity. In the propagation model Ukhuwah Wathaniyah proclaimed by the prophet, the planting of love and owning the homeland becomes a very important thing. It was built with expeditions and military training to hone the power to protect the brother and the motherland. The Ukhuwah Basyariah is built by instilling the importance of the value of human equality before Allah Swt, although humans come from different ethnic, cultural, traditions, and religions. Abstract

Artikel ini membahas mengenai seorang ulama kharismatik dari Deli bernama Hasanuddin bin Muhammad Maksum bin Abu Bakar gelar Imam Paduka Tuan atau lebih dikenal dengan nama Hasan Maksum (1884-1936) dan kontribusinya dalam dunia pendidikan Islam di Sumatera Utara. Keulamaan Hasan Maksum tidak bisa dipisahkan dari organisasi besar Islam seperti Al Jam’iyatul Washliyah dan juga kontribusinya yang sangat besar bagi perkembangan tradisi keulamaan di Sumatera Utara. Selama 20 tahun ia belajar ilmu-ilmu agama Islam di Makkah kepada ulama-ulama besar di sana, termasuk kepada Syaikh Ahmad Khatib al-Minangkabawi. Di Deli, ia aktif mengajar di sejumlah masjid dan langgar dan murid-muridnya kemudian menjadi ulama terkemuka di Sumatera Utara. Selain sebagai ulama dan guru yang dikenal sangat zuhud dan sederhana, ia juga pernah diangkat sebagai Mufti Kesultanan Deli hingga akhir hayatnya.Keywords: Hasan Maksum, Pendidikan Islam, Ulama Sumatera Utara.

Abstract

Seorang  raja diharuskan mampu berkomunikasi dengan baik kepada rakyatnya dengan tujuan mendapatkan efek yang baik dari hasil komunikasi tersebut. Berkomunikasi dengan efektif merupakan kunci yang urgen demi memajukan dan mengembangkan kerajaan tersebut menjadi suatu peradaban yang maju.  Penelitian ini akan membahas bagaimana seorang raja di Kerajaan Lima Laras yang menggunakan bentuk-bentuk komunikasi dan didorong dengan menggunakan beberapa media sebagai alat komunikasi demi mengembangkan Islam pada masa beliau memerintah. Raja tersebut bernama Datuk Mad Yudha yang merupakan Raja di Kerajaan Lima Laras memerintah pada tahun 1883-1919 Masehi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif yang menjadikan kata-kata sebagai hasil. Penelitian ini digunakan dengan mewawancarai informan yang didukung oleh literatur sebagai bahan untuk menginterpretasikan Pola Komunikasi yang dilakukan dalam mengembagkan Islam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya efek yang baik ketika Datuk Mad Yudha mengembangkan Islam di Kerajaan Lima Laras  dengan  menggunakan beberapa bentuk komunikasi yang dibantu dengan media sebagai alat untuk berkomunikasi. Hasil tersebut di buktikan dengan beberapa keberhasilan yang elah dicapai beliau ketika menjabat sebagai seorang raja yang juga memiliki hambatan dalam mengembangkan Islam. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini mmenunjukkan Kerajaan Lima Laras sudah memiliki nilai peradaaban yang baik dan tinggi dalam membangun kehidupan sosial, politik, ekonomi dan budaya. Peradaban tersebut bisa dilihat dari bagaimana tata pemerintahan saat itu yang menggunakan berbabagai macam strategi dalam mengembangkan Islam yag diwujudkan dengan berkomunikasi dengan baik antara pemerintahan dan masyarakat.Keyword: Lima Laras, Batubara, Media Komunikasi, Melayu

Abstract

Abstract This research discusses the development of urban transport in Medan during the first half of 20th century. In this period, Medan was the city at outside Java that had the most good strides in social and economic life. Although the urban situation had a remarkable development, but the transport system was not complicated as well as Batavia or Surabaya. Therefore, the problem of this thesis emphasize the urban transportation development in the midst of Medan urban’s development. The urban spaces, the dynamics of employing transportation, and regulation are some important factors which discuss in this thesis. This research analyzing primary and secondary sources which include archives, newspapers, magazines, photographs, and other references. There are several findings in this thesis. First, most of the urban streets in Medan were built originally for the plantation needs, before then became the public road and the urban main street. Second, although the mechanic vehicle had existed, but generally, the urban center was filled by the smaller number of upper middle class rather than lower middle class groups which generally live at suburbs. Third, the policy on the Medan urban transport system was not fully held by the city government, because the other parties of non-government also intervenes to adjust their personal or group interests. Fourth, public transport which could carry mass passenger tends to be marginalized by economic reasons, i.e. the economic opportunity where people engaged in transportation was lost and effect on peoples income. Fifth, the sorts of urban transport in Medan are connoting also to social symbol.Keywords: Development, transportation, city, spatial.

Abstract

Al-Azhar is one of the institution's pride the Islamic Ummah. History has recorded how the existence of Al-Azhar of the early Fatimid Dynasty to this day holds a great story very interesting. Not only that, Al-Azhar also contribute on the development of civilization and Islamic intellectuals. Many scientists the great scientists who were born from there. One thing that is not less important is that it turns out that the existing educational system in Al-Azhar turned out at the adoption by the institutions which exist in Western countries. Therefore, this paper will try to uncover the historical return of Al-Azhar during the Fatimid Dynasty, history of the establishment, and the factors that affect the educational system.

Abstract

This research examines about Islamic art (the art of dancing the Bedouin Village of Semampir) as a media of religious proselytizing. This theme is considered to be important, considering one of the efferts in delivering media of religious proselytizing of Islam is through art. As always practiced by Wali Songo in Java, with the use of various arts for this media of religious proselytizing of Islam. This study is besed of field research against Bedouin dance arts in the Village of Semampir. The primary source is the result of interviews with people involved with this study and other writings that are relevant. Results of the study show that this simple Bedouin dance art is really a media propaganda for the community of the Village of Semampir in particular and society in General. Factually, this art has renewed the knowledge society, which was not previously so religious practices in response to the group, as well as add to the scientific vocabulary for readers in General and especially writers. Side of Islam is in the art of dances at the Bedouin poetries while performing. The poetries are divided into two languages, namely Arabic and Indonesian, Arabic poetry taken from the book of Arabic Verse Barzanji and Indonesian poetry contains the opening and closing greetings. As for the movements of the dencer describes a group of people practicing war, as it has always been practiced by Bedouin Arabs.Keywords: Islamic Art, Art Dance Bedouin Village of Semampir, Media of Religious Proselytizing.

Abstract

Pengkultusan terhadap orang-orang yang dipandang suci, beserta makam-makamnya terdapat di beberapa daerah di Jawa. Salah satunya sosok Sunan Geseng yang dipercaya sebagai salah satu penyebar Islam di Jawa bagian selatan. Sunan Geseng yang sebelumnya bernama Cakrajaya atau Ki Cakrajaya merupakan sosok yang gemarlelono (mengembara), sehingga di beberapa tempat di temukan makam dan petilasannya. Salah satunya terdapat di Dusun Tirto, DesaTirto, Kecamatan Grabag, Kabupaten Magelang, Propinsi Jawa Tengah.Puncak kunjungan peziarah di makam Sunan Geseng terjadi saat digelarnyatradisi selikuran yang diadakan setiap tanggal 20-21 Ramadhan. Tradisi inidimaksudkan sebagai peringatan haul Sunan Geseng, sehingga menjadi pembedadengan situs di daerah lainnya yang telah penulis kunjungi. Keberadaan makam Sunan Geseng sangat menguntungkan masyarakat berkaitan dengan ekonomi, yaitu dengan kedatangan peziarah.

Abstract

This study aims to determine (1) Implementation of learning of Islamic History by subject decline of Abbasid dynasty through Strategy Learning Type Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD). (2) Increased student learning outcomes MAN 2 Medan through the implementation of Cooperative Learning Strategy Type Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD). This study is a classroom action research  (PTK) using 2 learning cycles. The research method aims to improve the quality of classroom learning practice. The main purpose of PTK is to solve real problems that occur in the classroom as well as seeking a scientific answer why it can be solved through the action to be taken. The research findings are: (1) Implementation of learning by using Cooperative Learning Type Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) strategy is appropriate learning. (2) Increasing the average score since the preliminary test before the action is 71,5 with the completeness of 22%, the average value in cycle I is 77,4 with the completeness level 48%, the average value in cycle II is 86,6 with 100% completeness level, thus the learning outcomes of students from cycle I to cycle II has increased.Key  Word: STAD, Hasil Belajar Siswa, Materi Kemunduran Abbasiyah

Abstract

The mosque is a place of worship of muslim, one of them is to perform the congregational prayers. Mosque Pathok Negoro Mlangi besides being use as a place of prayers congregation is also used as a place of spreading of Islam religion in Mlangi. The status of Mosque Pathok Negoro Mlangi is  under the rule of Sultanate Yogyakarta. This mosque is also used as a cultural heritage and classified into cultural heritage buildings protected by UU No 11 in 2010. So, it is not arbitrary people can change the shape of the building. This study aims to determine the response of Mlangi community to renovate Mosque Pathok Negoro Mlangi in 2012. Data collection is done by interview, observation, and documentation, as well as verivication and interpretation to know the source validity. The community’s response to the renovation of the mosque in 2012 contradicts each other. Some people who support but not a few who refuse the renovation. The motive for the renovation in 2012 is to restore the characteristics of the mosque building Pathok Negoro Mlangi at the mosque Kagungan Dalem which has been lost due to renovations made in 1985 by Mlangi community.Key Word: Mosque Pathok Negoro Mlangi, Society Mlangi, Renovation Masjid merupakan tempat beribadah umat Islam, salah satunya untuk menjalankan sholat berjamaah. Masjid Pathok Negoro Mlangi selain digunakan sebagai tempat sholat berjamaah, juga digunakan sebagai pusat penyebaran agama Islam di Mlangi. Status Masjid Pathok Negoro Mlangi berada di bawah naungan Kesultanan Yogyakarta. Masjid ini juga dijadikan sebagai warisan budaya dan digolongkan kedalam bangunan cagar budaya yang dilindungi dengan UU No 11 Tahun 2010. Sehingga tidak sembarangan orang bisa mengubah bentuk bangunan tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui respon masyarakat Mlangi terhadap renovasi Masjid Pathok Negoro Mlangi pada tahun 2012. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi serta melakukan verifikasi dan interpretasi untuk mengetahui keabsahan sumber. Respon masyarakat Mlangi terhadap renovasi masjid yang dilakukan pada tahun 2012 saling bertentangan. Sebagian masyarakat banyak yang mendukung dan ada juga yang menolak renovasi dilakukan. Motif dilakukannya renovasi pada tahun 2012 adalah, untuk mengembalikan ciri khas bangunan Masjid Pathok Negoro Mlangi sebagai masjid Kagungan Dalem yang telah hilang akibat renovasi yang dilakukan pada tahun 1985 oleh masyarakat Mlangi.Kata kunci: Masjid Pathok Negoro, Masyarakat Mlangi, Renovasi

Abstract

Tradisi pernikahan kekerabatan Bani Kamsidin tidak umum terjadi jika dilihat dari sudut pandang ketentuan-ketentuan hukum dalam Islam dan norma serta adat yang berlaku di Indonesia pada umumnya. Keturunan Kamsidin yang sudah migran ke berbagai wilayah tetap memegang teguh tradisi pernikahan kekerabatan ini. Kemajuan pendidikan serta perkembangan zaman yang dialami keturunan Kamsidin tidak  menyurutkan pernikahan ini untuk tidak bertahan. Oleh karena itu penulis tertarik mengkaji lebih lanjut bagaimana sejarah pernikahan Bani Kamsidin ini terjadi meliputi asal usulnya beserta prosesnya, motif-motifnya, dan perkembangan pernikahan Bani Kamsidin di Jawa Timur dari tahun 1974 sampai 2015 M. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian sejarah  dengan melakukan beberapa tahap, yaitu tahap heuristik, verifikasi, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Hasil penulisan ini menunjukkan bahwa: pertama, pernikahan kekerabatan Bani Kamsidin bermula dari pesan Kamsidin kepada anak-anaknya untuk menikahkan anak-anaknya secara kekerabatan. Proses pernikahan kekerabatan Bani Kamsidin meliputi perjodohan, nyabek ocak, serpang, certacer, lamaran, ngalak sabek, akad nikah, resepsi pernikahan, ngirem, tongngebben, dan main ke ponduk. Kedua, perkembangan pernikahan kekerabatan Bani Kamsidin dapat diklasifikasikan ke dalam tiga periode, yaitu inti Bani Kamsidin, penyatuan keluarga, dan konflik. Ketiga, alasan Bani Kamsidin melakukan pernikahan kekerabatan adalah keyakinan agama, menjaga keturunan, dan menjaga keutuhan keluarga. Kata Kunci: Pernikahan Kekerabatan, Bani Kamsidin.
