Abstract

The role and contribution of urban green space have become crucial. In addition to serving as a space to maintain environmental quality and improve people's living conditions, urban green space also serves a purpose in the transformation of an urban region. This study aims to examine what factors influence the increase in the amount of UGS in Bekasi Municipality as a Metropolitan city. The data were collected from Spatial Planning Office and Central Bureau of Statistics in 2013- 2022. Using Multiple Regression techniques, this research explores the association of variables in terms of the necessity for UGS. The result of this study shows that the population have a positive correlation but no significant impact on the total area of UGS. The total area of residential has a positive and significant impact on UGS, while the growth of the real estate sector has a negative impact and is not significant on the total area of UGS in Bekasi City. With the increasingly limited land area, the government of Bekasi Municipality should pay attention to the availability of existing land so that it can be used for urban green areas.

Abstract

Dengue fever (DHF) is a disease transmitted by mosquito vectors that becomes a worldwide problem every year. Bandung City as the capital city of West Java Province is a vulnerable area for DHF as seen from the high number of cases and deaths due to DHF. Climate variability such as temperature, rainfall, humidity and wind speed, has an influence on the incidence of DHF which affects the life cycle of mosquitoes, breeding media, and also the reach of mosquitoes to humans. The high number of cases will affect the sustainability of regional development, one of which has implications for the high burden on the health budget. Based on the regression model, there is a relationship between climate variability and health outcomes. Climate variability simultaneously affects the incidence of dengue fever in Bandung City. With R2 value of 0.737. The proven influence of climate variability on dengue disease rates in Bandung City can be used in developing an early warning system to prevent and reduce the number of cases in the form of more accurate disease prevention activities before the number of cases increases.

Abstract

The productivity of community forests is still low when measured on an annual average. It is caused by exploitation that still relies on wood products. Therefore, developing agricultural commodities with high economic value could be a solution to increasing the productivity of community forests. This research aimed to analyse the potential of taro beneng to increase the productivity of community forests and how much land has the potential for its development. We conducted surveys and interviews with two key informants (head of the beneng-taro farming group in Sukamaju Village and Kutawaringin Village, Ciamis Regency) and literature studies from various sources on the internet. A spatial analysis was conducted to calculate the potential land area for developing beneng taro in community forests. The results of this study showed that beneng taro has the potential to be developed in community forest land because it is shade-tolerant, easy to cultivate, has a high production of tubers and leaves, and has export opportunities. The total area of land that has the potential for developing taro beneng in Ciamis Regency reaches 35,260.05 ha, consisting of categories from moderately suitable to highly suitable, spread across 26 sub-districts.

Abstract

This study aims to elaborate and advocate for the Ecology-Based Provincial Budget Transfers (TAPE) mechanism as a policy instrument for managing environmental issues while reducing disparities in economic development. West Java faces pressing ecological challenges. It includes impacts of climate change, deforestation, water scarcity, land conversion, food security threats, and a significant socio-economic development gap between the North and the South. The Ecological Fiscal Transfer (EFT) has been applied in the National Government transfer mechanisms. The TAPE has been implemented in a few provinces of ”the Lungs of the World” as a derivative concept of EFT at the provincial government levels. This research examines experiences and best practices of TAPE implementation in other Provinces, then modifies the idea for the West Java context. It employs a Desk Study method, incorporating a literature review, policy analysis, interviews with stakeholders, and collecting regional government budgets of districts/municipalities. This study presents findings regarding the potential of TAPE to stimulate sustainable economic equity. This research provides comprehensive policy recommendations to address environmental problems and inter-regional fiscal capacity disparities in West Java. In detail, it promotes ecological performance indicators for formulating provincial financial aid allocations for regency/municipal governments and village governments.

Abstract

Research shows that inequality could hamper economic growth, while HDI improvement generally correlates positively with economic growth. West Java, one of the provinces with the largest population in Indonesia, faces unique challenges in the interplay of relationships between those factors. This study aims to measure the relationship between measurements of inequality and the various indices that serve as components of HDI on the one hand, as well as economic growth on the other hand, in all of the 27 municipalities (i.e., regencies and cities) of West Java Province. Using panel regression of cross-sectional and time series data, this study found that inequality and the life expectancy index both showed positive and significant relationships with economic growth. These findings might be related to increased investments by wealthier individuals and increased labor productivity due to a healthier workforce. Conversely, the education and income index were found to be non-significant, possibly due to qualitative disparities in education and mismatches with labor market needs, and also due to the limitations of expenditure-based measures in regions with substantial informal economic activities that are not fully captured in official data. These findings can guide targeted interventions to balance growth and equity in West Java.
