Abstract

Speaking skills are important communication skills for students, but many elementary school students have difficulty developing them. Low speaking skills in students are caused by internal factors such as lack of self-confidence and low motivation, as well as external factors such as less interactive teaching methods and an unsupportive environment. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effect of the cooperative learning model of the role-playing type assisted by hand puppet media on students' speaking skills. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design of the non-equivalent post-test-only control group design. The study population was 157 students. The sample was selected using Cluster Random Sampling, totaling 29 students. Data collection was carried out using a speaking skills test carried out after treatment, and the instrument used was a speaking assessment rubric. Data were analyzed using inferential statistical tests with independent sample t-tests to determine the differences in speaking skills between the experimental and control groups. The results showed that there was a significant increase in speaking skills in the experimental group. This study concludes that the cooperative learning model of the role-playing type assisted by hand puppet media can improve students' speaking skills. The implications of this study indicate the importance of using more interactive methods in Indonesian language learning to support the development of students' speaking skills.

Abstract

Lack of interactive and varied learning media on the material of arithmetic operations of whole numbers in Mathematics subjects, and the teaching materials used are only sourced from books. This makes the learning outcomes of students less than optimal. This study was conducted to develop pop-up book learning media that are adjusted to students' needs through the application of ethnomathematics-based learning models. This study aims to determine the design, feasibility, and effectiveness of the use of pop-up book learning media based on ethnomathematics in learning mathematics on arithmetic operations of whole numbers for grade III of elementary school. The model used in the development of this media is the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The data collection technique uses a test with a short answer instrument. The results of the study showed that the mathematics pop-up book is feasible and practical to be applied in the learning process, as evidenced by the feasibility test from the results of the design expert test 90%, content experts 90%, learning design experts 90%, learning media experts 92%, individual tests 88%, small group tests 91%. The results of the effectiveness test calculation obtained a t count (4.640), which is greater than the t table (1.967), so Ha is accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that pop-up book learning media based on ethnomathematics is feasible to be applied to the mathematics lesson content, especially the material on arithmetic operations of whole numbers for grade III of elementary school.

Abstract

Literacy learning in elementary schools has been implemented systematically, but there are still obstacles to student involvement and the effectiveness of strategies used by teachers. Some students have difficulty understanding, assessing, and reflecting on information from reading, while teachers need an innovative approach to improve students' literacy skills. This study aims to analyze the conditions of literacy learning and identify teachers' needs in implementing innovative literacy programs in elementary schools. A qualitative descriptive approach was used in this study, involving 91 grade III students and six teachers, using a saturated sampling technique. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, and distributing questionnaires to teachers and students, with instruments in the form of observation guidelines, interview guidelines, and structured questionnaires. The data obtained were analyzed using interactive analysis techniques that include data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of the study indicate that literacy learning has been going well but still requires strengthening in the variation of learning media and more effective strategies in increasing student involvement. The conclusion of this study confirms that efforts to strengthen literacy in elementary schools require more varied learning innovations based on student needs. The implications of this research provide insights for teachers and educational policymakers in designing more effective learning strategies to improve student's literacy skills sustainably.

Abstract

Elementary school students have not been able to master basic vocabulary, so many have difficulty learning English. Students have difficulty in translating, understanding, and pronouncing words, as well as spelling and remembering vocabulary, so their interest in learning English decreases. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Quizlet in the English vocabulary achievement of 5th-grade elementary school students. This study uses a quasi-experimental method with a post-test-only control group design. The sampling technique used is total sampling. The entire population of 5th-grade students consists of two parallel classes. The data collection method uses tests. The data collection instrument uses test questions. The data analysis technique uses inferential statistical analysis (t-test). The results of this study show that the mean post-test value of the experimental group is higher than the control group. The results of the t-test show significant values between the two groups. The calculation of the effect size also supports this by showing Cohen's large standard. It is concluded that the use of Quizlet is efficacious in improving students' English vocabulary achievement. This study implies that the application of Quizlet in vocabulary achievement in English learning helps increase students' interest in learning.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low interest and literacy skills of third-grade elementary school students. One of the causes is the limited interesting and contextual learning media. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of animated video media containing Nusantara folklore in improving students' reading literacy. The development model used is the ADDIE model (analyze, design, development, implementation, evaluation). The subjects of the study were 43 third-grade students divided into control and experimental classes. The data collection methods and instruments used were questionnaires and essay-based literacy test questions. The data analysis techniques used in this development research were qualitative descriptive analysis methods and quantitative descriptive analysis. The results of the Independent Sample t-test assisted by IBM SPSS Statistics obtained Sig. (2-tailed) results of 0.000 and Sig. <0.05, then H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. Animated video media containing Nusantara folklore is valid and practical to use and effective in improving students' reading literacy skills. The implications of this research show that the integration of local cultural values through interactive visual media is able to create fun and meaningful learning for elementary school students.
