In the learning process, reading is something a must to do. There are many ways to increase interest in reading, including with crossword puzzles (TTS) and “balsam plang” or five minutes reading before going home. TTS can be categorized as a stimulant that serves to manage stress and connect the sleeping nerves of the brain. The nature of "fun" but still "learning" from TTS gives the effect of refreshing the memory, so that the work function of the brain back to optimal because the brain is accustomed to continue learning with ease. Abstract

Understanding the contents of the reading is achieved when appropriate paradigm of discourse analysis is used. Therefore, the mastery of the discourse analysis paradigm is very important to be mastered by the reader in order to understand the text and context of the discourse. Basically, there are three paradigms in discourse analysis, namely positivism-empirical (commonly called positivism), constructivism, and critical paradigm. Description about the discourse analysis paradigm is expected to be useful for students and teachers / lecturers who conduct study discourse analysis so that it can facilitate them in conducting discourse analysis by departing from one of these paradigms. Based on the view of the formalist (positivism-empirical paradigm), it is understandable that examining a discourse in principle is to examine the potential relationship between one sentence and another in relation to the syntax and semantics. From the functionalist's point of view (constructivism paradigm), discourse analysis is attempted as an analysis to uncover the meaning and meaning behind the discourse. Discourse analysis is an effort to reveal the hidden intent of the subject which expresses a statement by placing itself in the speaker's position with an interpretation that follows the structure of the speaker's meaning. Meanwhile, according to the critical paradigm, discourse is not understood solely as a study of language, although in the end, discourse analysis does use the language in the text to be analyzed. However, the language analyzed according to the paradigm of dialectical analysis is somewhat different from the study of language in the traditional linguistic sense. The language analyzed is not merely a description of the language aspect, but also relates it to the context. Keywords: paradigm, discourse analysis, text and context, reading

Abstract

Children's reading interest today is not encouraging. Various facts and data on statistical reports related to reading interest and reading ability among children show that children's reading interest is still low. The role of parents or family or other parties are required to do or make a way of strategy for the interest of reading children can grow and develop well. One effort to foster interest in reading in children is to tell stories. Basically fairy tales contain positive values for life, because in it contained moral and ethical demands. Storytelling is one effort or technique to foster reading interest in children. Parents or other family members as well as other parties can act as speakers of the books they read and, of course, fairytale material adapted to the level of language development and age of the child. The storytelling activity will be more effective when delivered or told at bedtime, during the family relax time, or it can be given ahead of and after class lesson. If the activity is done well, continuously, will gradually arise the child's desire to read their own books. Therefore storytelling is one of the best ways to foster reading interest in children. Keywords: reading interest, storytelling, children

Abstract

The purpose of education in Hinduism is to establish an adult human or dewasa (dewasa= human with god character). Education is also an attempt to achieve Catur Purusa Arta (the four goals of human life). Having enough knowledge will help people build good characters. Strengthening the human characters are not only trained in the school but also in the family environment. Balinese tradition in transferring moral messages for the younger generation is very diverse. One of them is through the reading "prasasti" on certain clans in Bali. Prasasti is lontar (palm-leaf manuscript) contained a genealogy or a chronicle of a clan. “Prasasti” is usually read once every 210 days. All members of the clan will gather at the family temple to listen to the messages which inherited by their ancestors. Knowing the chronicle of the family is very important for Balinese in order to increase pride and self-esteem. In this event, youth would learn how important to be good people. At the end of the reading, the elders will give commentary to the text in order to be imitated by future generations. In the context of library science,  Balinese are familiar with the information literacy as a means to pass on the knowledge from generation to generation in order to pass on the noble values that have been handed down. This paper tries to explore: (1) why some clans still maintain the tradition of reading “prasasti”, while there are clans that did not;  and (2) what values are presented at the time of reading “prasasti”. Keywords: prasasti, lontar, character strengthening, information literacy

Abstract

In Indonesia, documentation does not develop as a science as the library. Even the documentation is forgotten or deliberately forgotten. In the United States documentation has also been considered the past since the introduction of information science. Yet it is precisely from America too, the documentation evolved into a new science. Currently there is Document Academy Meeting (DOCAM) which is held annually on an international level. At European Tromso University became the lead pioneer of documentation studies. This development seems to escape from the view of the library school in Indonesia. This paper presents a personal journey in interpreting the documentation. It is hoped that this paper can inspire librarians practitioners and academics in the field of documentation study. Keywords: documentation, library, librarian
