Abstract

Background: Drug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis (DR-TB) remains a significant challenge in global and national TB control efforts. The success of DR-TB treatment is influenced by various factors, including clinical, demographic, and behavioral components. This study aims to evaluate the factors associated with treatment success among DR-TB patients at Royal Prima Hospital Jambi. Methods: A retrospective, quantitative study design was employed. Data were collected from medical records of DR-TB patients treated between 2020 and 2024. Variables analyzed included age, sex, nutritional status, treatment adherence, and comorbidities. Multivariate logistic regression was used to identify significant predictors of treatment success. Results: Among 132 DR-TB patients, the treatment success rate was 68.9%. Significant predictors of treatment success included treatment adherence (p<0.01), good nutritional status (p=0.03), and absence of comorbidities (p=0.04). Age and sex were not statistically associated with treatment outcomes. Conclusion: Treatment success in DR-TB is significantly influenced by patient adherence, nutritional status, and the absence of comorbid conditions. Targeted interventions focusing on patient education, nutritional monitoring, and management of comorbidities are essential to improve DR-TB treatment outcomes in healthcare settings.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the hypnotic and sedative effects of ethanol extract from the stem of Jaka Tua (Scoparia dulcis Linn) on male Swiss strain mice. The sleep time method with sodium pentobarbital induction was used to assess the extract’s potential to enhance sleep duration. The experiment was conducted at the laboratory of Universitas Adiwangsa Jambi. Mice were divided into five treatment groups: a negative control group (distilled water), a positive control group (diazepam 1 mg/kgBW), and three groups receiving the ethanol extract of Scoparia dulcis stems at doses of 100 mg/kgBW, 200 mg/kgBW, and 400 mg/kgBW. Observed parameters included sleep onset time and total sleep duration. Results showed that administration of the extract at 200 mg/kgBW and 400 mg/kgBW significantly increased sleep duration and decreased sleep onset time compared to the negative control. The sedative effect at the highest dose approached that of diazepam. These findings suggest that the stem extract of Scoparia dulcis Linn possesses potential as a natural sedative agent.

Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) can cause significant cardiovascular damage, including diabetic cardiomyopathy and diabetic vasculopathy, associated with increased oxidative stress and inflammation. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Curcuma zedoaria extract on the improvement of heart and aorta histopathology in Wistar rats with T2DM. C. zedoaria extract was administered orally at doses of 100, 200, and 400 mg/kgBW for 6 weeks. The results showed that administration of C. zedoaria extract significantly reduced heart fibrosis and aortic elastin fragmentation, particularly at the 400 mg/kgBW dose. These findings suggest that C. zedoaria has potential as an adjunctive therapy to prevent cardiovascular damage in T2DM, with mechanisms involving the inhibition of oxidative stress and inflammation.
