Abstract

Culture as a result of human activities in their life and it is a reflection of the level of their ages. One of subculture is art, including fine arts which containing craft arts. The results of this art can be practical functional, aesthetics and also as an expression/symbolic work of the creator, in nature.The expression of craft arts is highly bound by its elaborate materials, technical or process. The realization requires for technical sckill, persevere and patience, and also it can be done in short way, while it can be arranged/ordered so that the expression exposures can be touchable for them who observe them.The craft design can also be understood as the design approach both in methodology, principal and objective of design, both in relation with the practical functional, aesthetics and also symbolic aspects.One of the characteristic of the craft arts is its concrete outcome of the ability or skill from the creator (craftmanship) on the form or shape of their works in high quality, both in uniqueness, aesthetics, philosophy, symbolic and also practical function aspects viewpoints. The craftman can use any simple equipment, even with relatively modern technology in hands to realize them, but the control still on their own bare hands.Keyword : expression,symbolic,craft, design

Abstract

There are two things need to be considered when wewill discuss about the problem of work creation methodology.Firstly, the one relates to the paradigmatic aspect ofwork. Secondly, the implication of work paradigm will influencevarious probabilities of approach adoption and methodology.The two fundamental things need to be proposed asthe topic of discussion in order to obtain the clarity of positionin determining or adopting the methodology referred inartistic creation process, including in the work area. Abstract

Recently, advertising is a competition arena of product and commercial company image. The increased number of product brand circulating makes the advertiser conduct every attempt to place the product image in the public reference. The archetype existence serves as the source code of human’s collective unconscious nature and as the joint well inside the brain containing the similar psychical content within human beings is utilized by the advertises as the foundation for arranging the commercial communication over the product.Keywords: Archetype, code, image.

Wreksa Warangka is a research on wood as the basicmaterial of the sheath for keris in Surakarta. The knowledgeof suitable wood used as the material of the sheath forkeris has come into axistence since the age of the court ofSurakarta. This research aims to find out what wood is usedas the sheath for keris and how to use the wood completedwith the background of the belief of the community in woodas the material of the sheath for keris.Key Word : wood, the sheath for keris .

Abstract

As a social creature, man need of communication with another. The changing and developing of social role can’t be separated with a well balanced communication factor between man with the creator, man with man, and man with another human beings.Batik as one of man cultural product is also the form of communication expression that learned by our parents through cloth media with resistance by using hot candle (malam) or using a tool called “canthing”.The existance of Batik in Java can’t be separated with a way of life, that believed its true by Javanese people. As people having local genius, Javanese people can’t create Batik as one of visual communication media between Javanese people as cultural product creator with the creator as a source of all power. The creators of variety decoration of Batik, a long ago, not early created a beautiful in viewing thing but also gave a meaning that had a close relationship with their way of life. They created a decoration variation with a pure massage and a high hope. A hope that they wanted is by wearing Batik with certain motive is hoped it will bring a goodness and happiness for them. These are painted beautifully and symbolically and full of meaning.As a communication media of Javanese people, Batik can keep exist as one of cultural product that have a high praise and keep get a place in the people.Key words : Batik, culture product, communication

Abstract

Talking about “The Expression of Art and Public Intervention” always relates to the artist’s communication process as the creator of art and the enjoyer (public). Or in other words, the artwork in this case is the painting as the social medium or communication vehicle of artist idea to another people. In daily social reality, the dialogic process between the artist and public frequently encounters misconception.This results from several problems: firstly, the artwork is multi-interpretative in nature, thereby leading to varied perception; secondly, the different “values” adopted by the artist and the public; and finally, the difference between the artist and several communities in the society in defining “the public space”.The three problems above will be discussed and explored in this paper. Focusing on the case study in Balai Soedjatmoko from 2003 onward, it is expected that this paper will find an agreement that can mitigate the “public intervention” into the emergence of artwork in the public spaces in the future.Keywords: Artistic Expression, Social Body, and Public Space.

Abstract

There are several topics overshadowing an artwork functioning as the means of social critique, perhaps constituting the funny but satire thing, beautiful thing or even the ugly one. All of artworks performed for that purpose will, of course, emerge as something interesting; in addition to that the work assumes a responsibility as the means of evaluating and correcting, however, the more important thing is the meaning of artwork, whether or not the meaning of what attempts to be conveyed by the artist reach the goal and can be understood well so that it will give input into the clumsiness or whether it result in confusion in the interpretation of artwork. This highly depends on each artist individual’ skill and competence in processing idea as well as in manifesting it into his/her work.Keywords: Critique, Art, Communication
