Abstract

The research was title The Effect of Pregnant Mare Serum Gonadotropin (PMSG) Pure and Combinations against Gonadosomatik Index, Hepatosomatic Index Silver Pompano (Trachinotus blochii). The purpose of this research was to obtain the best hormone treatment to increase the gonadosomatic index and Hepatosomatic Index. This research used a Completely Randomized Design with 3 treatments and 3 replicates of fish. The treatments include Control (0.5 ml NaCl), PMSG (20 IU kg-1 fish body weight) and PG600 (20 IU. Kg-1 fish body weight). Parameters calculated include Gonadosomatic Index (GSI), Hepatosomatic Index (HSI) and Absolute Growth. The best results were PG600 treatment with Gonadosomatic Index (0.12±0.06), Hepatosomatic Index (2.29±0.15 %) and Absolute Growth    (85±31.32 g) for 4 weeks. The conclusion of this study is the provision of pure PMSG and combination with a dose of      20 IU. Kg-1 body weight can  increase gonadosomatik index, hepatosomatic index and absolute growth of Silver Pompano fish. Keywords : Silver Pompano Fish, PMSG, PG600, Gonadosomatic Index

Abstract

Fluctuating asymmetry of the bilateral meristic characteristic is one of the simple methods that can be used to determine the stability of an individual fish development. This study aims to provide quantitative information about the level of asymmetry of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) in Dunia Air Independent Training Center Marine and Fisheries, Banyuwangi through bilateral meristic characteristic observation.  A total of 120 fish samples (5-7 cm) were measured in this study. Four bilateral meristic characters were calculated i.e. the number of soft pectoral fins, number of soft ventral fins, number of scales on the lateral line up and down. The results show that the highest value of the fluctuating asymmetry of magnitude (FAm) and fluctuating asymmetry of number (FAn) was obtained at the number of scales on the lateral line up those are 2.14 and 0.78, respectively. Meanwhile, the lowest FAm and FAn values obtained from the soft ventral fins which were 1.69 and 0.78, respectively. The sum of the total value of fluctuating asymmetry of each bilateral meristic characteristic was observed. The overall FAm value was 7.83 and the overall FAn value was 2.99.Keywords: fluctuating asymmetry, Nile tilapia, PMKP Dunia Air

Abstract

Effect of chemical compounds in the wastes of essential oil distillation including lime leaves, lemongrass leaves, ylang-ylang flower, and coriander seed on the activity of Escherichia coli has been performed. In this research, observation was done by using microbial fuel cell (using E.coli) with two compartments were connected by nafion membrane and zinc plats were used as electrodes which were connected by copper wire and multimeter. Energy production from the cell was shown from the generated current due to the E.coli's oxidation activity to the substrates (distillation wastes). Results from the research exhibited that chemical compounds in the lime leaves positively affected to the bacterial activity with the generated current present up to 20 µA. It is also observed that mass variation of the substrates significantly affected the current generation. Chemical compounds in the three other wastes were found to be not as effective as lime leaves because from the analysis of their methanol extracts by GC-MS indicated that these contained antibacterial compounds such as octadecanoic acid and rosifoliol. Conclusion from the research was not all of wastes from essential oil distillation have a potency to be used as substrates in the microbial fuel cell as some of these chemicals had an antibacterial property which negatively affected the E.coli bacterial activity in the cell. Keywords : microbial fuel cell, Escherichia coli, waste of essential oil distillation.

Abstract

This research aimed to identify types of bacteria existed in nursery rearing pond of catfish (Clarias gariepinus) using closed water system. The observed data include bacterial abundance and diversity in the water and in the fish digestion system, fish growth and water quality. This research was performed in the media of 3 concrete pools with the size of 3 x 1 x 0.8 m3 containing fish stock spreading of 3000 tail / pond. The obtained results showed that the highest abundance of bacteria was found in the surface and the bottom of pond C with the abundance number of   3,0 x 104and 1,2 x 103for aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, respectively. Moreover, it was figured that the dominant bacterial species found in the water and the gastrointestinal tract were from the genus of Bacillus, Clostridium and Lactobacillus. Meanwhile, water quality in the pond was observed in the normal range with the temperatures of 28 - 30 oC, pH (6.0 - 7.0), DO (4.5 - 5.7 ppm), ammonia (0.06 - 0.03 ppm), nitrite (0 ppm) and nitrate (0 - 5 ppm). Keywords: Type of bacteria, catfish (Clarias gariepinus), Closed water system.

Abstract

This study aims to  analyze the  economic, technical and price efficiency of  milkfish farmers participating fish culture training at Center of Education and Fisheries Training Banyuwangi, analyzing covering factors affecting production efficiency. Analysis of data used in the form of production function analysis Cobb Douglas stochastic frontier which is estimated by Ordinary Least Square Method (OLS). Estimation of Cobb-Douglas production function model using OLS method to know the efficiency of the average performance of fish culture business. Estimates with the maximum likelihood (MLE) method to determining the level of technical efficiency, using the 4.7 frontier computing program developed by Coelli (1996). To know the efficiency of the price can be calculated by the value of marginal product (VMP) of production factor. The results show that the level of economic efficiency of milkfish culture business in Gresik East Java, based on the results of estimation using MLE method, the result of six factors of production is in rational area, but not yet efficient because the obtained coefficient value of each area of pond (X1) 0.318, fertilizer (X2) 0.079, lime (X3) 0.009, seeds (X4) 0.005, probiotics (X6) 0.066 and labor (X7) 1.311. While one feed production factor (X5) is in an irrational area because it has a coefficient value of -0.017. While the variables that influence inefficiency are experiential variables (Z1), age of farmers (Z2) and formal education (Z3) each have elasticity of -0.0711458; -0,6270106 and -0,1504381. The value of Marginal Product (NPM) of pond production area (X1) is 0.00059 (<1), Fertilizer (X2) is greater than 1 ie 3,01413, lime production factor (X3) 3,35338, the other NPM factor production such as Seed (X4) and Labor (X7), with value less than 1 (0.00075 and 0.03865), NPM Feed (X5), is smaller than one ie -0.00364 (<1 ). NPM probiotic (X6) is 95,1491 (> 1). Overall allocation of the seven factors of production is the average value of price efficiency is also more than one that is equal to 101,553 and economic efficiency equal to 2,904. it can be concluded that fish breeding business has not been efficient. Keywords: efficiency, economy, technical, price, frontier, milkfish
