Abstract

The maintenance of infant health can be done by early and exclusive breastfeeding. However, exclusive breastfeeding has not been achieved. This may be due to the administration of prelakteal foods. Prelacteal feeding  practice define as administration of food/drink despite of breastmilk without indication to newborn during the first three days without any medical indication. The purpose of this study is to determine the association between maternal factors with prelakteal feeding to newborns in the working area of Air Dingin Primary Health Center. This study was an analytical study with cross sectional design with a sample of mothers who have babies aged 0-12 months in the working area of Air Dingin Primary Health Center. This study was conducted from November 2016 to October 2017. Data will analyze using chi square analysis (p <0.05). A total of 63% of mothers administrated prelakteal foods. The result revealed  p-value between prelakteal feeding and maternal knowledge (p = 0,03), parity (0,037) and mother’s job status (p = 0,771). There was a significant relationship between maternal knowledge and parity with prelakteal feeding. It is necessary to provide information to the mother by health workers and to increase mother awareness to get information from KIA book. As well as a concern on primipara mothers.

Abstract

Preeclampsia is a condition characterized by an increase in maternal blood pressure of at least 140/90 mmHg accompanied by proteinuria and other symptoms that occur after 28 weeks gestation. The incidence of preeclampsia in hospital DR M Djamil Padang reached 33%. The exact cause of preeclampsia remains unknown, but extreme maternal age, nulliparity, history of hypertension are suspected to be the risk factors for this. This study aims to determine the factors related with the incidence of severe preeclampsia in the hospital DR M. Djamil Padang. This was observational analytic study with case control study design. The population is divided into two, the case population (all mothers with severe preeclampsia) and the control population (all mothers with no severe preeclampsia). The sample was 85 people taken by simple random sampling with the comparison between case : control (1:1). Data were taken from the patient's medical records. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate using  Chi square test with  p value < 0,05.The results of this study showed there was a relationship between age (p = 0,001), parity (p = 0,020) and history of hypertension (p = 0,003) with the incidence of severe preeclampsia in the hospital DR M Djamil Padang. While the factor that has no significant relation is multiple pregnancy.Mothers with age <20 years old or ≥35 years old, nulliparity, and having a history of hypertension are more at risk for severe preeclampsia. Therefore it is expected for health workers especially midwives to increase awareness to patients especially for those who at risk of  preeclampsia.

Abstract

Maternal mortality in Indonesia can occur during pregnancy, labor and delivery. The biggest cause is bleeding. Bleeding can occur during labor or postpartum. Birth attendant can be an indirect determinant of the incidence in postpartum hemorrhage. The aim of this study is to determine factors associated to choice of birth attendance. An analitycal research based cross sectional study was conducted from November 2016-November 2017. The study included 66 subjects who gave birth in 2016 were selected by purposive sampling technique. Data were collected by questionnaire. The collected data were analyze with chi square test using p value <0,05The result of statistic test showed that there was a significant correlation between knowledge (p = 0,000) and attitude (p=001) with the choice of birth attendant. There was no significant correlation between age (p = 0,253), education (p=0,071), employment (p=0,227) and accesibility (p=p=1,000) with the choice of birth attendant. Meanwhile, for support of the husband  level chi square test was not performed. From the results of the study it can be concluded that knowledge and attitude were factors related to choice of birth attendance. Meanwhile, age, education, employment  and accesibility were not factors associated to choice of birth attendance in work area of Silago Health Center.

Abstract

Low Birth Weight (LBW) is an infant born with a weight less than 2500 grams. LBW is one of the causes of the high rate of morbidity and infant mortality, and the low quality of human resources. The occurrence of LBW is related to the condition of the mother during pregnancy. This study was aimed to determine the factors associated with the occurrence of LBW.This was a qualitative study with case control study design. The subject of the study was the mother of the LBW infant being treated at Dr. M. DjamilCentral Public Hospital Padang as many as 36 respondents (cases), and mothers of infants who were treated with other diseases as much as 36 respondents (control) from July to mid September 2017 taken by Consecutive Sampling. Data collection was done by filling out questionnaires, observation of medical record data, and measurement of upper arm circumference. Data were analyzed univariate by using frequency distribution and bivariate using chi square test with the degree of meaning 5% (p-value=<0,05).The result of the analysis showed that there was a correlation between maternal age at risk with LBW infants, there was a relationship of poor mother's nutritional status with LBW infants, there was a parity relationship of primiparous mother with LBW infant, there was a relationship of mother who suffered one or more medical illness with LBW infant, there was no relationship of gestational distance to LBW infants, and there was a tendency for the relationship between gemelli gestation and LBW infants.Maternal age, maternal nutritional status, parity, and maternal medical illness are associated with LBW infants treated in Dr. M. Djamil Padang. Regular and periodic monitoring and examination of pregnancy is important to prevent the baby from being born with LBW.

Subject of this studywere mothers who had 6-12 month babies whichwere106 people. Data was collected by using questionnaires and guided interviews. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate using chi square test with  p-value ≤  0,05.The results showed 76,4% of mothers did not provide exclusive breastfeeding for their babies and 59,4% of mothers did not get support from their husbands.Bivariate analysis showed  that there was a relationship between husband support with exclusive breastfeeding with p-value=0.000.There was a relationship between husband support with providing exclusive breastfeeding for the babies. Because of the importance of husbands role, husbands must be the target for exclusive breastfeeding counseling. Therefore, husbands can also be active to find the information and participate in the success of exclusive breastfeeding for the babies.

Abstract

Mental retardation is a condition of intellectual function that is below the average before the age of 18 years. Almost 83 million people around the world are estimated to have mental retardation. With 41 million have long term mental disability. Although the main cause of mental retardation is still fully unknown, prenatal and perinatal factors are suspected to be the risk factors for this. This study aims to determine the relationship between prenatal and perinatal factors with the incidence of mental retardation among children in Padang City. This was an observational analytic study with case control design. Population of this study divided into two, the case population ( all mothers of  mentally retarded child) and control population (all mothers of normal children). The sample was 49 people taken by cluster sampling with the comparison case : control (1:1). Data collected by questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using Chi Square. The result of this study showed that there is a significant relationship between prenatal and perinatal factors such as maternal age (OR=8.4; 95% CI 2.8-24.9; P=<0.001), father’s age (OR=2.4; 95% CI 1.1-5.6; P=<0.043), parity (OR=4.01; 95% CI 1.7-9.4; P=<0.002), asphyxia (OR=23.2; 95% CI 2.9-184.1; P=<0.001) and birth weight (OR=9.3; 95% CI 1.1-78.04; P=<0.031) with the incidence of mental retardation. Factors which does not have a significant relationship in this study are hypertension in pregnancy (P=0.617), prematurity (P=0.111) and type of labor (P=0.132).Parents < 20 years old or ≥35 years old and having parity ≥3 would be more at risk to have mentally retarded child. New born with asphyxia and born weight < 2500 grams are also at risk for mental retardationTherefore it is advisable forpeople to avoid the risk of pregnancy by age and medical attention during pregnancy to avoid the occurrence of low birth weight and asphyxia at birth.
