Abstract

Contributing factor to uterus contraction mechanism is the imbalance of the extracellular calcium level. When extracellular calcium level is inadequate, response of the myometrium to oxytocin decreased and the calcium influx inter-cell membranes are suppressed, thus inhibit uterine contractions. The aim of this research is to know the correlation between levels of calcium and the strength of uterine contraction in the active phase of first stage labor. This was a cross-sectional analytic correlative study in the Dr. Rasidin Hospital Padang and UPTD Health Laboratory in West Sumatra province, in was conducted from November 1st, 2014 till February 2016. Sampling was takes by using non probability sampling with consecutive sampling. Subjects of this research were the active phase of first stage labor of 62 people. Kolmogorof Smirnov normality test was used to the normality of the data. Pearson correlation test was conducted to examine the correlation between dependent and independent variables. Mean levels of calcium in the the stage I of  labor respondents active phase (8.94 ±0,71), while mean strength of uterine contractions in active phase of first stage labor(56.77±11,84), there was positive correlation (r = 0,62) between the levels of calcium in the strength of uterine contractions (p < 0.05). The conclusion of the study there was a significant correlation between the levels of calcium in the strength of uterine contractions.

Abstract

Abortion is one of the causes of maternal death. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 15-20% of maternal deaths are caused by abortion. Abnormal level of TSH and T4 during pregnancy will be at risk of abortion because the T4 hormone acts to regulate the body's metabolic processes. The purpose of this study to determine the relationship of TSH and T4 levels in the incidence of abortion.         The research design is observational with cross sectional approach which is implemented in regency general hospital of Dr. Rasidin, hospital of Dr. Reksodiwiryo,Bhayangkara hospital, Islam hospital of IbnuSina Padang, and Biomedical Laboratory Faculty of Medicine Andalas University in Padang from September to November 2017. The study population is all pregnant women with gestational age ≤ 20 weeks with diagnosis of abortion. The sample of research 58 respondents by using consecutive sampling technique Examination of TSH and T4 using ELISA method. Test the normality of data by Kolmogorov Smirnov test. Analysis of comparative data by using Pearson correlation test.         The conclusion of this study are the mean serum TSH level is 2.39 ± 1.59 mIU / I and the mean serum T4 level was 8.02 ± 1.43 μg / dl. There is no statistically significant relationship between TSH and T4 levels in aborted event, with p = 0.07 (p> 0,05), with r = -0,23, the relation test is weak, the direction was negative which means more high levels of TSH, the smaller  T4 levels in  mother abortion        The conclusion, the study proves that, there is no significant correlation between TSH and T4 levels in the incidence of abortion.

Abstract

Status of excess nutrition (obesity) and less influence on fetal growth. Obesity has increased fat, which increases some adipokines, one of which is resistant. Resistin plays a role in maintaining glucose homeostasis by inducing insulin resistance, antiadipogensis and inflammation. Resistin is found in the baby's umbilical cord so that resistin can play a role in fetal growth. The purpose of this study was to evaluate differences in maternal resistin levels between obese and normal weight mothers and their relationship to anthropometry of newborns. Material and Matode: This research is an observational analytic study with cross-sectional design. Subjects consisted of 20 obese mothers and 20 normal weight people. Sampling was done by consecutive sampling at Dr. M. Djamil Padang, dr. Rasidin Padang and TK III Reksodiwiryo Padang Hospital, Indonesia. Blood samples were measured by spectrophotometry. Statistics were analyzed by Mann Whitney U-Test and Spearman Test. Results: Median maternal resistin in obese subjects and normal weight was 1406 (1024.31-1947.78) ng / L and 1308.46 (740.16-1521.56) ng / L (p <0.05). Median fetal resistin in obese subjects and normal weight was 1086.47 (820.09-2205.29) ng / L and 1077.59 (704.65-1654.76) ng / L (p> 0.05). Conclusion: There was a relationship between maternal resistin and newborn body weight with r = -0.412 (p <0.05). There was a correlation between fetal resistin levels with the weight of newborns and infant body length (r = -0.694, and r = -0.455) (p <0.05). Resistin levels affect fetal weight gain in the obese and normal weight.

Abstract

Nowadays many methods are offered to reduce pain in labor, both pharmacological (using drugs) and non pharmacological methods. If possible the choice of non-pharmacologic therapy for the management of pain in pregnancy and labor should be considered before using analgesic drugs. One of an effective non-pharmacological method to reduce pain is with massage. The basis of this theory is the gate control theory proposed by Melzak and Wall (Lliadou, 2009).This study aimed to analyze diference of pain relief on active phase of labour with Counter Pressure and abdominal Lifting. This was an experimental with pre test and post test design. The samples were 42 women on their active phase of labor, 21 women for counter Pressure technic and 21 women for Abdominal Lifting technic. Counter Pressure technic decreased pain of labor with a P-value 0.015 (p<0.05) and abdominal lifting technic significantly decreased pain of labour with a P-value 0.001. Abdominal lifting technic (P 0,001) more effective than counter pressure technic (P 0,015) for pain relief in active phase of labour.
