Abstract

Waste water originating from batik production is one potential source of water pollution. This is because of batik production of waste water containing organic compounds are quite high, contain chemical compounds that contain dangerous and pathogenic microorganisms that can cause disease. Waste is a heavy metal chromium Cr (VI), which is one type of hazardous waste, can be derived from batik industry, metal plating (electroplating), and tannery (leather tanning). The concentration of chromium was done in the waste analysis before and after experiencing batik processing and industrial wastewater in a river after passing around pabrik. Penetapan chromium content visible spectrophotometer method using Difenilkarbazida. At the preliminary examination that pH of treated wastewater does not meet the requirements of waste water quality standard is five, and also chromium levels that still exceed the Central Java Provincial Regulation No. 10 Year 2004 water quality standards and batik textile industrial waste that is 10.1181 mg / L and after passing through two kilometers of the river flow is still too high at 7.6277 mg / L.

Abstract

Cromolyn sodium is an antiallergy drug that acts by inhibiting mast cells degranulation responsible for the release of histamine, a mediator for this disease. Moreover, cromolyn sodium is used as a first line drug in asthmatic therapy. However, cromolyn sodium did not always show the inhibition effects on histamine release from mast cells in all allergy experiment models. The aim of present study was to reconfirm the effect of cromolyn sodium on the histamine release from RBL-2H3 cells line induced by DNP24-BSA as an antigen, and compare to it’s positive effect on active cutaneous anaphylaxis model induced by ovalbumin as an antigen. The results showed that cromolyn sodium did not inhibit the histamine release from RBL-2H3 cells line induced by DNP24-BSA significantly, but inhibited active cutaneous anaphylactic reaction induced by ovalbumin significantly.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is one of the degenerative diseases of concern to government and society, because the incidence of sufferers is increasing from year to year. Lingzhi (Ganoderma lucidum) mushroom is a traditional medicinal plant which one of the benefits to treat diabetes mellitus. This study aimed to identify and seek the most effective dose of lingzhi mushroom extract to decrease blood glucose levels in white male rats of wistar strain. Lingzhi mushroom extracted by maceration with ethanol 96% and infuse it with aquadest. The ethanol extract was tested on each group of test animals with a dose of 1.18 mg/200 g BW; 2:36 mg/200 g BW and 4.71 mg/200 g BW. Negative control group given CMC 1% and the positive control group was given glibenclamide (90 mg/200gBB). Aqueous extract obtained was tested after the optimal dose of ethanol extract. Antidiabetic effect is obtained by measuring blood glucose levels for 2-week with intervals measure every week, then performed statistical tests with two-way analysis of variance with a level of 95% followed Dunnett test. The results showed that the lingzhi mushroom has antidiabetic activity in male rats. Ethanol 96% extract of lingzhi mushroom (1.18 mg/200 g BW) most effectively to decrease blood glucose. Water extract at a dose equivalent to 1.18 mg/200gBB have equally strong effects with ethanol extracts.

Abstract

Binahong leaf (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steen) are type of crops which good to heal some kinds of diseases. Binahong leaf contains the saponin, flavonoid, and polifenol. This research aim to know the antibacterial activity of n-heksan extracts, ethyl acetate and etanol 70 % from Binahong leaf that most effective to Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. Binahong leaf powder high rise soxhleted by n-heksan, ethyl acetate, and etanol 70 % solvent. Jell extracts of n-heksan, ethyl oacetate and etanol 70 % extract obtained were tested of antibacterial activity by 2 methods and made with concentration 100 % (b/v); 50 % (b/v); 25 % (b/v); 12,5 % (b/v); 6, 25 % (b/v); 3,125 % (b/v); 1,56 % (b/v); 0,78 % (b/v); 0,39 % (b/v); and 0,195 % (b/v) to antibacterial activity test by dilution method. Diffusion method conducted by made of well that have diameter 9 mm, then dripped with n-heksan extracts, ethyl acetate and etanol 70 % with concentration 25 %; 50 %; 75 %; 100 %; and blanco each counted 40 µl, then measured by its resistance diameter. Experiment result of antibacterial activity test Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853, ethyl acetate and etanol 70 % extracts has KBM 50 % (b/v) dan 25 % (b/v), while n-heksan extracts do not give KBM. Research result of diffusion method give the resistance area by mean of acetate ethyl extracts 8,33 mm (75 %); 11,67 mm (100 %) and for the etanol 70 % extracts 9,67 mm (50 %); 12,67 mm (75 %); 15,33 mm (100 %) while for the of n-heksan extracts do not give the resistance area. So can be concluded that etanol 70 % extracts more effective as antibacterial to Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 than n-heksan and ethyl acetateextracts.

Abstract

Jengkol (Pethecollobium labatum Benth) leaf is a traditional medicine used to treat eczema, scabies, wound and ulcer, and the fruit peel is for sore. Jengkol leaf contains saponin, flavonoid, and tannin. The experiment was aimed to know the antibacterial activity of jengkol leaves ethyl acetate extract ointment against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 infection indicated by recovery time from infection on rabbit’s back with effective basic and concentration. Jengkol leaf’s ethyl acetate extract was then made into hydrocarbon basics ointments with concentrations of 10%, 20%, and 30%. The examination of the ointment consist of stability, homogenity, spreadability, adhesion capacity, protection capability, and viscosity test. The ointments were rubbed once a day on the infection area. The observation was carried out until the infection was healed which is confirmed by the disappearing of pus, drying wound, and when it was inoculated in Vogel Jhonson Agar media there was no growth of bacteria. The result of this experiment showed that the most effective ointment of jengkol leaves extract was ointment with 30% concentration. All the tests taken demonstrated that the ointment of jengkol leaves reached the standard of good ointment.
