Abstract

The cyberspace has been causing disruption in various aspecs of people's lives and institutions, including pesantren. This oldest religious institution in Indonesia has also redefined its meaning, thereby constructing a new stream called "Pesantren Online" (online Islamic school) which changes people's perception of the Pesantren itself. As a means of religious learning, Pesantren Online, in this case, the site www.pesantrenvirtual.com, tries to satisfy the public's desire for religious matters. This paper concludes that the human need to obtain information on religious themes has instantly triggered the creation of religious online sites, such as pesantrenvirtual.com, as a reference to resolve the confusion of religious surfers.

As one of the most used platform, social media becomes the biggest contributor in sharing ideology. The debate in internet is getting more crowded nowadays, especially, the debate about caliphate whichcreated pro and cons group. This paper picks Twitter since it ranks as the highest turnover information platform, including in caliphate debate, to discuss how does the debate run, what are the user talking about in terms of it, what are the anvils they use. Out of this crowd, comes Gus Nadir as the representative figure of campus and pesantren in giving counter narrative for the caliphate narratives in Twitter, also as the antithesis of pesantren as radicalism producer. By using sociological approach which based on social media this paper offers Gus Nadir as the ideal role model in giving counter narrative towards radicalism, especially caliphate notion, who is capable in knowledge, reliable in giving statements, and casual in explaining, for all people, especially pesantren people.

Abstract

This article explores the meaning and existence of Hadith in the fatwa of the Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI). In this case the Hadith is not merely as a source of law in deciding a fatwa, but also reflects the basis of an argument about religion. As an influential religious institution, MUI determines a perception of the truth of religion offered to the community. At the same time, the paradigm of religio-centrism seems to prevent the institution from deciding on more inclusive fatwas. Therefore, the criteria of the hadith in the fatwas are based on the Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jama'ah. In other words, the fatwa tends to be oriented towards the Shafi'i which is approved by the majority of Muslims in Indonesia.

Abstract

This article examines the ideas of W.B. Sidjabat on the study of religion which is hardly discussed by scholars. Most scholars focus their studies more on the thoughts of Mukti Ali, Rasyidi, and other comparative religious figures, whereas Sidjabat tends to be more objective in building the paradigm of religious science. According to Sidjabat, religion is a neutral scope of study so that a religious researcher must not be subjective in his research and use several methodologies. Likewise with the perspectives used, so the methodology used in religious research will be relevant to the scope of religious studies. Thus, the study of religion aims to build a close personal relationship between religions, foster religious ethics among religious communities, deepen knowledge about the teachings of other religious communities, and stimulate cooperation among religious believers in practice.

Abstract

Every religious person has an equal space for spirituality to exercise, feel, and express his beliefs, but then this faces obstacles such as social class, gender bias, and especially disability. This research elaborates on the concept of an ideal-inclusive Islamic spirituality space in the Qur'an and Hadith, and also the spirituality space for people with disabilities in popular mosques in Yoyakarta. This study uses a hermeneutic approach to the Qur'an and Hadith and descriptive-analytic methods through critical observation and interviews with managers of popular mosques in Yogyakarta. As a result, the concept of spiritual space in the Koran, Hadith, even early Islamic history, has been very 'friendly' for people with disabilities, although historically this effort has been constrained by social factors such as majority-minorities, budget facilities, traditions and established culture. Therefore, the writer tries to classify the mosque into: a public mosque, a mosque towards a disabled person, a mosque with a disability awareness, and a mosque that is friendly to people with a disability.
