Abstract

Electrical conductivity of groundwater have been measured in area about the final garbage dismissal place (TPA) of Gunung Tugel, Regency of Banyumas. Groundwater samples have been taken away from 104 point of groundwater sources which distributed around of the research area, consisted of well water, belik water and pump water. Then, water samples are tested in Electronics and Instrumentation laboratory, Faculty of Science and Technique, UNSOED use the Wheatstone bridge principle. Electrical conductivity of groundwater obtained, then mapped pursuant to position of samples points location, so that obtained map of electrical conductivity contour of groundwater in research area. Pursuant to the electrical conductivity contour map, known that the mean electrical conductivity value in research area is 0,0594 kW-1, where highest electrical conductivity value is 0,1449 kW-1 and lowest electrical conductivity value is 0,0209 kW-1. Pursuant to interpretation known that most liquid waste (leacheat) of TPA Gunung Tugel are indicated flow into south and south-west area (Village of Kedungrandu) owning lower topography.

Abstract

Chitosan is the N-deacetylated derivative of chitin. Chitosan is biodegradable, biocompatible and non-toxic. Chitosan is polycationic in acidic media and give antibacterial activity. In this paper, antibacterial activity of chitosan have been studied.Chitosan had been isolated from white shrimp. Antibacterial activity of chitosan solutions was examined against S. aureus The result showed that antimicrobial effect on S. aureus was strengthened as the choitosan concentrate decreased.

Abstract

Direct oxidation of eugenol has been done using potassium permanganate. This research attempts to produce benzyl carboxylic acid, an important intermediate reactant for isoflavone synthesis, directly by breaking the p bond of allillic group attached to eugenol. The oxidation procedures were adopted from Wahyuningsih and Kusumaningsih anetol oxidation reactions. There were three modifications done i.e. one polar system of the oxidation environment, variation of time of reflux and temperature. Eugenol was firstly diluted in water by converting to its salt type and then oxidized using KMnO4 at 75 oC for 4 hours. The expected acid was separated by acidifying using sulfuric acid.The result showed that direct oxidation of eugenol using modified method of Wahyuningsih gave only a vicinal diol which undergoes polymerization into product in 80% yield with 83% purity. However, variation of time of reflux of Wahyuningsih method showed the same result with Kusumaningsih method as brown oily viscous liquid. The product was only 38% purity.

Abstract

TiO2­ photocatalyst can be used to reduce heavy metal ions into common metal ion or metal ion with lower coordination number. This research aimed to (1) study the influence of pH on the photoreduction activity of Pb2+ion by TiO2­, (2) study the influence of hole scavenger on the photoreduction activity of Pb2+ ion by TiO2­, (3) study the influence of light source on the photoreduction activity of Pb2+ ion by TiO2­. The method used on this research is laboratory experiment consist of the making of TiO2 thin film, standard Pb2+ photoreduction with the variation of pH, standard Pb2+ photoreduction with the variation of light source. The results of Pb2+ photoreduction are analyzed by Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy. The result of the research showed that the activity of TiO2 to reduce Pb2+ can be optimum at pH 6, oxalic acid as hole scavenger and UV lamp use. The sunlight can also be used as the light source to reduce Pb2+ by TiO2 photocatalyst.

Abstract

The mangrove plant have been long used the people for traditional medicine to cure various diseases, one of them to cancer therapy. Investigation the anticancer potent of R. mucronata has not been carried yet. This research was aimed to toxicity test of R. mucronta leaf extracts againts Artemia salina Leach, then cytotoxicity test of R. mucronata leave extracts againts Raji cancer cells. The extraction of R. mucronata leaf was peformed by maseration with ethanol. The ethanol extracts was partitioned with chloroform, ethylacetate and methanol. The ethanol extracts of R. mucronata leaf respectively was examined their toxicity againts A. salina Leach larv. The toxic exctracts was examined their citotoxicity againts Raji cells. The ethanol extract of R. mucronata leaf has toxic character because has LC50 < 1000 mg/mL. Toxicity test againts A. salina and citotoxicity test againts Raji cells showed that the chloroform fraction of ethanol extract of R. mucronata leaf have highest activity, respectively IC50 value equal to 290,92 mg/mL and 105,56 mg/mL. Phytochemical study showed that the active fractions contained flavonoid, terpenoid and alkaloid.

Abstract

Tofu industry is one of the industries which causing pollution on the environment especially water environment. The amount of wastewater-dumped and the content of organic substances could damage the water ecosystem. Multi Soil Layering (MSL) as one of alternative method is used in order to remove the tofu industrial wastewater pollution. MSL is a method of wastewater treatment that enhances the function of soils to purify wastewater.The research aimed to determine optimum loading rate and efficiency of MSL system to remove TSS, BOD and COD. The wastewater on the MSL system is loaded at the loading rate varieties, i.e: 160, 320, 480, 640, and 800 lm-2 day-1, and the aeration was applied for 8 a day at 1296 ld-1.The results revealed that optimum loading rate was 320 lm-2 day-1 and efficiency of MSL system to remove TSS, BOD and COD were 78.62 % ; 98,89% and 95,53 % respectively.

Abstract

The Quantitative structure-Activity Relationship (QSAR) study has been performed on pattern of structure-molecule relationship. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model used to estimate pattern of enzyme activity structure-molecule and atomic location in three-dimension for compound of flavonoid as the predictors. Value of determination coefficient used to compare between actual value and value of estimating by ANN models based on enzyme’s wavelength, so resulting cross validating is obtained. We use Quasy-Newton algorithm with Broyden-Fletcher-Goldfarb-Shanno (BFGS) procedure.
