Abstract

To be able to work optimally and efficiently by computer, in making a visual communication, we need to understand the three kinds of process/ how to work a computer. There are three bases logic how computer works, such as text, pixel, and vector. Each made with different methods of logic, as a result of efforts to meet the needs of creators of computer communication. So after the third understands the workings of TSB, the ease and optimization in making a visual communication can be achieved.

Abstract

Internet is an alternative media that have become a trend, a lifestyle and a need for people in the world. Moreover, the interface display of a website is getting more beautiful, more interesting, and more sophisticated. That's the reason why a web design presents a visual display of a website that has certain messages that cover layouts, graphic elements, and navigation systems to facilitate the users in browsing it. Now a website has shown the identity of a product, a company, and even the owner. To face a tight global competition, a web design plays an important role in surpassing other competitors.

Abstract

Ethics without doubt is an issue in every scientific field. Questions on ethics are not merely questions on the responsibility of one or two specific individuals, but rather as what have been defined accurately by Immanuel Kant in Critique of Practical Reason – as question of all humanity as a thinking creature and the freedom of choice on, “what should I do”. From Kant’s definition, we may infer that if human can not think and not free in determining their choice, it would be almost impossible to hope for moral responsibility. However this article does not mean to give a full and historical description on ethics, but a sketch on discourse of contemporary ethics which is represented by two famous philosophers, Jürgen Habermas from the tradition of  Critical Theory from Frankfurt School, dan Richard Rorty with “Neo-Pragmatism”. Habermas proposes “discourse ethics” while Rorty proposes ethic concepts through his “liberal-ironists”. It is hoped that the assembly of readers may gain an insight of the unavoidable ethics problems since every ethical position must be theory laden and the theory itself has historical characteristics (the characteristics, origin and historical context of the schools behind it). Therefore ethics is a neverending reflection although it has been started from 2500 years ago. Ethics invites us from specific sciences to enter its general discourse which unavoidably all-encompassing in its nature.

Abstract

This research is a reflection, a result from author’s contemplative process, in reading one of the texts written by one of the western philosopher at the end of modernity, Friedrich Nietzsche. The reading itself, mainly, was initially started from Nietzsche’s own writing in a form of excerpts collected in an anthology entitled Self-Interest. This research wishes to show how Nietzsche responds to existing understanding on traditional morality, which to him is no more than a kind of slave morality. Nietzsche, with his own view on morality is basically orbiting to one of his main theses, Will to Power (der Wille zur Macht); other morality related concerns like self and self-interest are also undetachable to this Will to Power. Within the context of traditional morality, thing like self-interest is considered taboo in contrast with altruistic behaviour (self-less behaviour by emphasizing concerns to others). For Nietzsche, this kind of morality is prevailed necessarily because we’re discourageous in facing the arrival of nihilism. From Nietzsche’s perspective, an immoralist, a person with self-interest (within the context of traditional morality) is a ‘moralist’ him/herself. The one who affirms to nihilism, the one who possesses master morality. At the end of this research, the author gives his own response regarding to his reading on Nietzsche and to aim pragmatic value from this research might be impossible. What might be possible is one can aim at achieving different perspectives on morality and self-interest through Nietzsche’s perspective.

Abstract

Limited signage facilities in Syahdan Campus of Binus University, has often been the cause of the disruption of the activities of the users who are unfamiliar with the room layout in the building. Where in this case teaching and learning activities are only one of the activities conducted there,  and it has to be considered that users are not only from among the faculty and students only, as regular users, but also visitors and guests as incidental users. Common problems in finding rooms that they have to go to, is usually only solved by asking someone else. Design of an effective, communicative, applicative and integrated sign system, is considered to be a solution to this problem.

Abstract

Basic element of subject is point / dot. Line, shape, form (two-dimensional and three-dimensional), and other structures (geometrically or ornamentally) are formed by a group or more points. The variety of size and composition of point will illustrate the characteristic of that point. Interesting composition will create a great artwork. Despite of variety of the structure, the technical process of colour dots had been developed for a long time. During the development of Impressionism art, some artists had tried to apply the colour dots as a new technique, which called Pointillism. Georges Seurat was a pioneerof this technique development. Pointillism was well known as Divisionism or Chromoluminarism at that moment. This technique was using an additive method that combined basic pigment colours of red, green and blue to produce optical vibration in the painting, therefore the viewers would be able to reach the maximum luminosity in their vision. The existence of this technique had proved that science and art were able to support each other. The combination of logic and aesthetic were able to create many extraordinary artworks.

Abstract

Jembrana Regency is placed strategically to keep Bali existence as a building of culture and civilization. Tribe and religious diversity cause Jembrana to be viewed as ’another Bali’, that is a more dynamic and compromising Bali. The current Jembrana is now mesmerizing after less than ten years in self renovation. This article will talk about how strategic bureaucratic innovation in optimalization of public service. Free education and health care policy, that are run consistently by Jembrana’s municipal government, become its frontliner in reaching Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) target. Prof. Dr. I Gede Winasa, former regent of Jembrana, is the main character behind this success. His background as academician and expanded relations from international fund organizations are his crusial ammunition to actualize his obsession absolving Jembrana from poverty, stupidity, and backwardness. Among what happens to this country, Jembrana’s breakthrough is worthy to be adopted in other areas in this country.
