Abstract

Window is one of building components that is directly related to lighting and ventilation. Currently a lot of vertical housings pay less attention to the design of energy-efficient windows. This study aims to find energy efficient windows that are applicable to vertical housing. Surveys on some vertical housings in Jakarta was conducted and environmental simulation programs using CFD and Ecotect was used to explore and analyze the performance of windows for natural lighting and ventilation and further developing of energy efficient windows. The result showed that the Jalousie windows mounted on the center of wall facing out and two louvers above the entrance and upperside of walls in the opposite side of rooms, combined with openings at the bottom of doors are able to create optimum cross ventilation. The resulted wind speed within the range of 0.15 to 0.12 m/s is enough to make comfortable air flow effect, and the average natural lighting of 200 lux is adequate forresidential activity.

Abstract

Play is something important for children development. In fact, there are many children who can not play as they should. Even playgrounds provided tend not to be able to function optimally. Even there is a tendency of provided playgounds abandoned by children. One example is the generation Z, highly technologyliterate children or called net generation. They would rather to interact with computers and communicate with the online system than meeting their friends. It seems to the generation Z that space is not limited by physical things, because they can create their spaces in the virtual status. Noting this indication, the existence of parks and playgorunds provided for public (including children) to do any activities, is likely to be reviewed. The low level of children visit illustrates that parks/playgrounds do not much interest them.

Abstract

Topics and themes become the key to open the insights of both theoretical and practical knowledge in architectural design; a concept in architectural design related issue as well. Ideally, the students of architecture do researches to generate new design ideas or proper design solutions. Prior to doing researches, it is necessary for them to find out how far the process of searches – literature review and application of topics and themes in the architectural design – have been done. This study was conducted with descriptive approach through case studies. The analysis unit is the final students of design studio class and students of the final project in the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Binus University - Jakarta. The Results of the study illustrate that the architecture students of Binus University know and learn about the architecture research. However, they need the efforts to improve research skills, accurate literature searches, as well as exercise and evaluation of the implementation of topic-themes that started to be studied by students from the mid-level to theadvance-level. The results of this study will be inputs to support architectural design learning based on architectural research at the Department of Architecture, especially in Binus University.

Abstract

In any city development, it is important to urge people to be involved in so that the development can be valued as much as possible. Model of involvement is certainly diverse, such as 'one-way involvement' in which people tend to just listen, and 'two-way involvement' where the people to participate to make a decision. This paper observes how the public participated in the arrangement of slum area undertaken by the Government. Although there has been community involvement in this activity, there are still any limitations.

Abstract

Composition and CAAD are closely related to structure logic. Composition is built by numbers which are also the language of CAAD frame algorithm. This bond provides the opportunity and privilege to help map the composition of CAAD into concrete manifestation. This paper examines both the composition of the basicconcepts introduced to students and the application to the computerized design. Awareness of students as designers is reviewed towards the tools and their potential availability in the case of form composition from the basic field. The specialty of this tool is able to redefine the creativity path to be logical and measurable. This opportunity provides acceleration towards form searching and balanced expression according to the designer’s interpretation. The user’s ability to optimize the modeling tool helps start the formation of the basic ideas. Starting from digital sketch, it gives room for the evolution and development of a vast alternative design.

Abstract

Any provision of public facilities and infrastructure should provide accessibility for elderly to create a more supportive situation and environment for them in carrying out their social functions and active roles in community life as naturally, state and nation. Accessibility in this case is the availability of public facilities and infrastructure that can facilitate the mobility of elderly in public places, such as wheelchair ramp, the path for stick users, doors, stairs, elevators for multi-storey buildings, and pedestrian crossing. This accessibility can be both physical and non physical. In this research what to be studied is how the implementation of the existing flats can provide accessibility to the elderly residents. Using descriptive exploratory method the condition of their perceptions of occupied flats will be described. This study is carried out qualitatively using interviews.

Abstract

Crime issues are quite familiar with the Indonesian folks, especially those living in big cities. Many things have been attempted by various parties to prevent and minimize crime. So far these efforts are more likely as arrest and punishment rather than prevention because prevention is much more difficult and more complex. Therefore it is sensible that crime prevention should be executed not only by law forces but also all elements of society who are able to contribute directly or indirectly to this regard. If indeed it is the responsibility of all elements of society, what can be done by us as designers or architects to this matter? In this paper is discussed the phenomenon of adaptation of the Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) concept in public facilities in some areas and abroad.

Abstract

This research has explored the possibilities and concept of architectural space in a virtual environment. The virtual environment exists as a different concept, and challenges the constraints of the physical world. One of the possibilities in a virtual environment is that it is able to extend the spatial dimension higher than the physical three-dimension. To take the advantage of this possibility, this research has applied some geometrical four-dimensional (4D) methods to define virtual architectural space. The spatial characteristics of 4D space is established by analyzing the four-dimensional structure that can be comprehended by human participant for its spatial quality, and by developing a system to control the fourth axis of movement. Multiple three-dimensional spaces that fluidly change their volume have been defined as one of the possibilities of virtual architecturalspace concept in order to enrich our understanding of virtual spatial experience.

Abstract

The development of RFID technology (Radio Frequency Identification) offers some advantages, especially in goods distribution, supply chain and logistics. This technology works by putting a chip on an item as a replacement for barcodes that are widely used today. With the RFID technology, the process of goodsidentification becomes very easy and fast. Therefore, some large companies have started implementing and trust the system, especially the supermarket retailers although there are still some problems encountered in the application of this system, related to issues of privacy and data integrity problems. This paper discusses how RFID works and the impacts to the company related to profits and problems encountered during the application of this system.

Abstract

In industry field, designing products that meet the criterias and expectations of the consumers is a must. PT Pura Mayungan as an industry panel company obtained a Cyber Project which required a particular project management system. In the meantime, the regulation and monitoring of all activities related to the cyber panel have not been well integrated as in the activities of inventory, purchasing, and sales towards the cyber project focusing. This causes difficulties in generating information needed by the management. Thus, a project management system was built to assist in the operation management activities including purchasing, inventory and sales. Besides, there was a need to build a computerized information system specifically for handling the calculation and recording of inventory and transactions to improve company performance. In this research two methods were implemented: analysis and data collection through literature evaluation. This research concluded that the lack of regulation and monitoring would bring a lot of difficulties in delivering information.
