Abstract

Binus as an information technology-based campus, the campus electricity needs swell with the rising costs. Energy crisis threat needs to be observed in order to optimally support the operation of the building. To achieve energy savings on Binus Syahdan, an energy audit needs to be done with strategic measures related to saving HVAC systems, lighting and other utilities. Through observation, evaluation of energy utilization can be practiced to obtain recommendation and implementation of efficient energy management. From the results of energy audits and implementation of energy savings within five months, the saving reaches 33.5% on average each month. Thus Binus can save operating costs, have better work productivity and foster a culture of saving that can be continued for other Binus campuses. Sustainability of this activity is expected to bring Binus as energy-efficient campus pioneer in Indonesia, as a positive response to national energy saving programs.

Abstract

Resting is essential to restore the freshness of body both physically and mentally. To optimally gain freshness quality depends on a conducive and comfortable atmosphere during resting time. Architecture also makes convenience factor as a basis for managing comfort zones as classification placement for room specification. One convenience aspect to consider is the noise level, so it is natural that the resting room (bedroom) is placed in zones that are considered quiet, away from the noise level. Theoritically, noise is getting weaker as the sound source distance is getting further. Sound source will also propagate or bounce on a specific object. On contrary, in this case (at the researcher’s residential), the rooms closer to the sound source are even have lower noise levels due to the lower position and barrier block.

Abstract

Good housing quality will make the age of building more longer, and occupants will be more comfortable to live in the house. Due to high of growth of housing projects and the need to finish quickly, developers often pay less attention to the quality of the building work. Many problems occurred in the work area during the construction of housing projects. It could hinder the work and affect the physical quality of buildings after the construction period. This study explores the issue of housing project development, focusing on foundation and wall consruction, as well as the solution. The study is conducted by field observations and literature review related foundation and wall consruction. The locations are taken from five housing projects in Jakarta built by private developers in 2008-2010. The results provide information that the issue on foundation and wall consruction is very important because it is associated with the strength and robustness of the building, as well as the convenience of staying after the construction finished. If the problems can be addressed and resolved early, the risk of decline in the quality of the building can be controlled, avoided or eliminated. Otherwise, it can lead to a decrease in housing quality prematurely.

Abstract

In line with the increase of population, the need for housing continues to increase as well. This is a classic issue in urban areas when land prices continues to rise so that some recidences belongs only to high society The concept of Land Banking could be as one solution to acquire land which is feasible to be built for low income housing. This paper discusses about the concept of land banking and how it is applied in Indonesia.

Abstract

Rainwater harvesting and collecting for household domestic needs is someting commonly found. Even in some countries in Africa and Asia,it has been known for a long time. Currently, the technology varies from the simple one like using a barrel up to the purification technology. Unfortunately the rainwater harvesting system commonly found now is rarely integrated as a planned building element. Indeed, the integration will bring good impact on both design and function. This article analyzes a two-story residential building that uses Rainwater harvesting and collecting system which is located in Bintaro, Jakarta, as one example of a planned architecture that uses the system.

Abstract

The seismic wave velocity in rock formation depends on the elastic modulus and mass density of rock where the wave travels. The velocity measurement of P and S waves on rock formation and the mass density in the laboratory can be used for calculating the elastic modulus of rock formation. The elastic modulus is part of rock mechanical parameter needed in geological engineering researches. The velocity measurement of P and S waves by the seismic refraction method was done on a tunnel with 11 spreads of measurement. From the results of the measurement, three groups of rock formation could be identified. The first is rock formation with Ed=8.890-12.68 MPa and G=3.306-4.830MPa; the second group is rock formation with Ed=8.890-12.68 MPa and G=3.306-4.830MPa; and the third group is with Ed=18.520-21.120MPa and G=6.724-7.744MP. The first group is clay formation while the second and third groups are andesitic stone formation.

Abstract

Supply chain management plays an important role in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of manufacturing industry business process. In this research, the problem is taken from a sales division in a company in determining the optimal sequence when delivering goods into nine cities. This problem is oftenreferred as travelling salesman problem. This problem is considered important since the optimal sequence can cut off operational cost. Creating an artificial intelligence for the company in determining the location and the optimal sequence of delivering goods is the main objective of this research. A genetic algorithm is utilized to determine the location and the optimal sequence. While for processing the data and concluding the result, researcher designed a Java-based application that provides the capability of automatic computing. The result of this computation is a sequence of locations with a fitness number for each. The best fitness number for the sequence location will be used for the final result and the conclusion to answer the company’s problem.

Abstract

Bushing is one of the eminent product of PT Indokarlo Mighty. The company requires some suppliers of iron cutting services to continue providing high qualified raw materials. The quality is the accuracy of the intended length of the products which is able to meet the requirements of the requested length. The purpose of this study is to determine what factors caused the defect on the length of the products. In addition, it is objected to provide appropriate solutions to eliminate to the factors, so that the number of defected products can be reduced. This study uses the methodology of Six Sigma improvement models Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control (DMAIC) to make improvements in the quality of services provided by PT Argatama Multi Agung, while the improvement phase uses Design of Experiment (DOE) to find the machine configuration that can produce the best quality products. A significant increase in sigma is obtained from the conducted research.

Abstract

Types of rigid pavement for road has been widely used in Indonesia, ranging from toll roads to the outer town road. Rigid pavement is considered more powerful than the flexible pavement. In other words, rigid pavement is expected to have a longer service life and minimal maintenance. The construction cost for rigid pavement is more expensive compared to flexible pavement. While the need for rigid pavement maintenance is cheaper than for flexible pavement. Seen from investment point of view, rigid pavement is more profitable than flexible pavement, because the annual fee required for rigid pavement is less. Due to the comparations, an analysis is performed in this study to select which type of pavement is best used in the future.

Abstract

Sustainable home design implements a sustainability system , in which the design can meet the needs of both current and future residents as well as the environment. Sustainable design is applied in order to save the environment and natural resources by minimizing its use. The house is designed as a whole by considering the management of water, waste and electricity. Social interactions and relationships between the environment and the residents nearby are also expected to be sustainable. Regarding to the needs of residents of the city whichare diverse and dense, the house design implements a modular system, with the container material which suits the needs of its inhabitants. The modular system is objected to make easy the house improvement, assembility, and material reusage. Prefabricated process is also implemented, considering the transportation and construction. Thus the range of sustainable home design with modular systems in a dense region of North Jakarta meets the needs of the community and contributes to environment sustainability.
