Abstract

The contemporary Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) systems like IEEE 802.11a/g standards use Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (COFDM) and offer data rates of up to 54 Mbps at 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz. IEEE 802.11n is a recent WLAN standard capable of not only providing increased data rate and improved range but also reduced signal fading. These benefits are achieved through the use of space-time coded Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output with Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) technique which provides the possibility of increased signal strength at the receiver with optimal bandwidth and power efficiency. In this paper, a novel hybrid space-time block coding (HSTBC) scheme is proposed for mitigating signal fading as well as enhancing the performance of MIMO–OFDM based WLANs. The signal to be transmitted is first pre-coded and the resulting output is then coded using space-time block code to form a HSTBC. Simulation results show that the HSTBC scheme considerably reduced the effect of multipath fading in wireless communication systems with improved bit error rate. Our proposed HSTBC improves the performance of the system in terms of data transmission as the capacity of the system almost doubled the capacity of a conventional STBC system.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v3i5.3668

Abstract

This paper presents the designing and simulation for vertical moving controlof Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAV) system using Proportional IntegralDerivative (PID) control method, Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) controlmethod and fuzzy logic control technique. The UAV system pose a challengercontrol problem that in it precise model of system is non-linear. Theconventional PID controller, the LQR controller, Fuzzy Logic Controller(FLC) and Self-Tuning Fuzzy PID controller are designned based on thedynamic modeling of the system is derived from a suitable mathematicalmodel to describe the vertical motion of a UAV. Simulation results in Matlaband Simulink show that by using self-tuning Fuzzy PID, the performance ofvertical moving control system is improved significantly compared to Othercontrollers.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v3i5.3440

Abstract

Discharge of untreated industrial water on land and in existing waterbodies has deteriorated the quality of these sources and has become harmful and disasterous for human as well as aquatic life..Many a times even treated industrial effluents are proved to be harmful. So in the project discussed below an effort has been made to test the treated industrial waste water and send the obtained results to the concerned industry as well as pollution control board. The sensor used to test the water were pH electrode (PE03), conductivity electrode (k=1), purity sensor, thermistor. The results obtained from the above sensors were then sent  to the industry control room as well as pollution control board.using GSM.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v3i5.3177

Abstract

This paper proposes a method to compute load curtailment evaluation using ACSA based optimal power flow incorporating voltage stability margin criterion. . In a deregulated environment, congestion alleviation could mean load curtailment in certain situations.  The utilities would definitely prefer to curtail a load as lower as possible during a viability crisis situation. A criterion based on the voltage stability indicator is them incorporated as an additional constraint into the optimal power flow using ACSA algorithm and it is evaluated in a WSCC 9-bus test system.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v3i5.2738

Abstract

In recent years the need to provide greater convenience for the physically impaired community is a challenging issue: the reason being that more reliable and cost effective system are required. This paper proposes a cost effective infrared-based solution for automatic control of electrical circuitry and systems in a residential building to aid easy access for physically impaired and/or elderly people. This electronic system has been designed to meet the need of users such that it switches ON the lighting circuits on the detection of entry into a room and switches OFF the circuit as soon as the room is empty. One of the most important features of this design is the ability to automatically adjust the power consumption on the basis of human presence in a room. The device is simple both in its functionality and implementation.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v3i5.3627

Abstract

An appropriate understanding of the source code is one of the necessary steps for resolving errors and improving code and design. Two fundamental aspects in Object-Oriented Programs are program elements including classes and packages, and the relations among them. In this paper, a multi-step approach has been presented and implemented for recovering and displaying main elements of an Object-Oriented Program including classes, packages, and the relations among them. This approach has been done through three steps; first, the set of classes, packages, and the relations among them are obtained automatically from the program source code. Second, a code is injected to the program source code to register the information needed during runtime. Finally, the information obtained from previous steps is displayed. The results of this approach can be used for automatic documentation, teaching programming, better understanding and evaluating Object-Oriented Programs, reverse engineering methods for detecting program strengths and weaknesses.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v3i5.4031

Abstract

The requirement of wireless access networks and user equipments to support coexistence of many communication standards and frequency bands poses challenge on antenna to be broadband and small. The application of half-cut technique to broadband printed monopole with microstrip feeding worsens the resulted antenna’s impedance. To improve the half-cut antenna impedance mathing, two methods were investigated in this paper: (1) monopole and ground extension, (2) the application of microstrip line transformer and ground extension. The first approach only produces limited improvement, whereas method #2 can enhance the return loss significantly. The application of the second approach potentially produces antenna pair that has low mutual coupling, good return loss, and small size. Considering its radiation pattern, the antenna is suitable for diversity and MIMO. Its application in broadband microwave-photonic access point need special arrangement due to radiation null at 5 GHz band at right side.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v3i5.3376
