Abstract

In this paper, demand rate and hazardous event frequency considerations which effect to the error on the SIL calculation will be discused. The various value of hazardous event frequency and demand rate will be evaluated in this paper. The  result of this paper is when hazardous event frequency 10E-06/year and PFD’s safeguard 0.00002, with test interval 1 year, the SILs of low and high demand start showing different level at demand 5.1/year. At that point, we shouldn’t use simplified formula for low demand, because it will make different SIL with the exponential formula and simplified high demand formula. The requared SIL targets are SIL 2 and SIL 1, for exponential formula and simplified high demand formula, respectifely. Hence, it should be taken more attention and consideration for various value of hazardous event frequency with various demand rate.

Abstract

Although the technology scaling has enabled designers to integrate a large number of hardware blocks onto a single chip realizing System on Chip (SoC), problems arising from leakage current have made power reduction an important issue. The IoT platform has restricted power consumption because of battery power. In this paper, we propose our little core based IoT platform focusing on the low power and expandability. The experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of our proposal to the IoT.

Abstract

Measurement the outdoor efficiency of photovoltaic (PV) panels is essential, but it is not likely an exceptional circumstance at any given moment is always repeating itself. A solar simulator was designed and fabricated for the purpose of analyzing the performance of PV panel with and without an air cooling mechanism in indoor test. Twenty units of 500 W halogen lamps with build-in reflector support by the steel structure holder act as a natural sunlight. The uniformity of the solar radiation was measured in the test area. Two units of PV panel with same characteristics were experimental in three sets of uniformity of solar radiation, which are 620, 821 and 1016 W/m². The operating temperature of PV panel with an air cooling mechanism can be decreased 2-3 ˚C compared to PV panel reference. The PV panel with an air cooling mechanism can be increased in 3-7 % of maximum power output based on solar radiation. An overall method and procedure of the measurement by the solar simulator are discussed and proposed.

Abstract

Nowadays, the electricity demand is increasing day by day and hence it is very important not only to extract electrical energy from all possible new power resources but also to reduce power losses to an acceptable minimum level in the existing distribution networks where a large amount of power dissipation occurred. In Myanmar, a lot of power is remarkably dissipated in distribution system.  Among methods in reducing power losses, network reconfiguration method is employed for loss minimization and exhaustive technique is also applied to achieve the minimal loss switching scheme. Network reconfiguration in distribution systems is performed by opening sectionalizing switches and closing tie switches of the network for loss reduction and voltage profile improvement. The distribution network for existing and reconfiguration conditions are modelled and simulated by Electrical Transient Analyzer Program (ETAP) 7.5 version software. The inputs are given based on the real time data collected from 33/11kV substations under Yangon Electricity Supply Board (YESB). The proposed method is tested on 110-Bus, overhead AC radial distribution network of Dagon Seikkan Township since it is long-length, overloaded lines and high level of power dissipation is occurred in this system. According to simulation results of load flow analysis, voltage profile enhancement and power loss reduction for proposed system are revealed in this paper.

Abstract

A microstrip dipole UHF-RFID tag antenna that can be mounted on metal object is presented in this paper. The antenna, which has a very simple structure without any shorting pin and shorting plate, is composed of ladder feed line, rectangular loop, capacitive tip-loading and T-match structure. The insertion of ground plane in the tag antenna design reduces the negative impact of metal object to the performance of the tag antenna. The tag is designed to operate in the Malaysia frequency range with the center frequency of 921 MHz. The performance of the tag is evaluated through simulation and measurement in terms of impedance matching, antenna reflection coefficient and tag reading range. The measured reading range obtained when the tag is in free air and on metal object is 2.3 m and 2.2 m respectively.

Abstract

Reducing energy consumption is a critical issue in the design of battery-powered real time systems to prolong battery life. With dynamic voltage scaling (DVS) processors, energy consumption can be reduced efficiently by making appropriate decisions on the processor speed/voltage during the scheduling of real time tasks. Scheduling decision is usually based on parameters which are assumed to be crisp. However, in many circumstances the values of these parameters are vague. The vagueness of parameters suggests that to develop a fuzzy logic approach to reduce energy consumption by determining the appropriate supply-voltage/speed of the processor provided that timing constraints are guaranteed. Intensive simulated experiments and qualitative comparisons with the most related literature have been conducted in the context of dependent real-time tasks. Experimental results have shown that the proposed fuzzy scheduler saves more energy and creates feasible schedules for real time tasks. It also considers tasks priorities which cause higher system utilization and lower deadline miss time.

Abstract

The efficient management of the dynamic XML documents is a complex area of research. The changes and size of the XML documents throughout its lifetime are limitless. Change detection is an important part of version management to identify difference between successive versions of a document. Document content is continuously evolving. Users wanted to be able to query previous versions, query changes in documents, as well as to retrieve a particular document version efficiently. In this paper we provide comprehensive comparative analysis of various control schemes for change detection and querying dynamic XML documents.

Abstract

An accurate model of balanced and unbalanced three-phase Induction Motor (IM) under balanced and unbalanced supply conditions based on Winding Function Method (WFM) is presented in this work. In this paper, the unbalanced condition in three-phase IM is limited to stator winding open-phase fault. The analysis of presented models is shown in details which allow predicting the performance of 3-phase IM under different conditions. Computer simulations were obtained using the MATLAB software for a three-phase squirrel cage IM. MATLAB simulation results show that the oscillation of the speed and electromagnetic torque has increased considerably due to the open-phase fault in stator windings.

Abstract

Wind power supply system is an effective, environmentally friendly power source for household and other applications. According to the wind speed changes in variation the output power of wind generator is not stable and constant. This paper proposes the variable speed stand-alone wind power supply system that includes Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator, three phase diode rectifier, DC-DC boost converter, battery energy storage system, and voltage source inverter. DC-DC boost converter controls to extract maximum power from the available wind power. Battery energy storage system through bidirectional converter is to supply the load when wind power is shortage. To get the desired output voltage and frequency at the load side, the voltage source inverter with the sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) control technique has chosen. The harmonics generated from the VSI are filtered with simple passive LC filters.  Simulation results of output voltages and currents, the total harmonic distortion (THD) are presented using MATLAB/Simulink.

Abstract

Timing attack is the type of side-channel attack involves the time taken to complete critical operations. Securing crypto processor from timing attack is critical issue. This paper implements the Bernstein’s Timing Attack and timing attack based on hamming weight. The countermeasures of Bernstein’s Timing attack are implemented in our experimental test bed and their performance is compared.  This paper also proposes the key recovery method based on timing attack using hamming weight of the key.
