Abstract

Two dimensional finite differences temporal domain (2D-FDTD) numerical simulations are performed in cartesian coordinate system to determine the dispersion diagrams of transverse electric (TE) of a two-dimension photonic crystal (PC) with triangular lattice. The aim of this work is to design a filter with maximum spectral response close to the frequency 1.55 μm. To achieve this frequency, selective filters PC are formed by combination of three waveguides W1K A wherein the air holes have of different normalized radii respectively r1/a=0.44, r2/a=0.288 and r3/a= 0.3292 (a: is the periodicity of the lattice with value 0.48 μm). Best response is obtained when we insert three small cylindrical cavities (with normalized radius of 0.17) between the two half-planes of photonic crystal strong lateral confinement.

Abstract

This paper presents a robust control strategy for a grid connected photovoltaic system with a boost converter by using an integral Backstepping method based on a nonlinear state model, which guarantees the Lyapunov stability of the global system. The system has tracked precisely the maximum power point, with a very fast response and the unit power factor has been observed under different atmospheric conditions. Moreover, the best advantage of the controller is that it’s a good corrector of the grid perturbation and system parameter disturbance. The simulation result has demonstrated the performance of this strategy.

Abstract

Classification based on sequential pattern data has become an important topic to explore. One of research has been carried was the Classify-By-Sequence, CBS. CBS classified data based on sequential patterns obtained from AprioriLike sequential pattern mining. Sequential patterns obtained were called CSP, Classifiable Sequential Patterns. CSP was used as classifier rules or features for the classification task. CBS used AprioriLike algorithm to search for sequential patterns. However, AprioriLike algorithm took a long time to search for them. Moreover, not all sequential patterns were important for the user. In order to get the right and meaningful features for classification, user uses a constraint in sequential pattern mining. Constraint is also expected to reduce the number of sequential patterns that are short and less meaningful to the user. Therefore, we developed CBS_CLASS* with Single Constraint Progressive Mining of Sequential Patterns or Single Constraint PISA or PISA*. CBS_Class* with PISA* was proven to classify data in faster time since it only processed lesser number of sequential patterns but still conform to user’s need. The experiment result showed that compared to CBS_CLASS, CBS_Class* reduced the classification execution time by 89.8%. Moreover, the accuracy of the classification process can still be maintained.

Abstract

In this research, a hovercraft was developed as a transportation tool to carry an I-Bylogical Enzyme (I-BE) biosensor. The main function of the biosensor is to measure the level of dangerous chemical materials from factory’s liquid waste. Hence, fiber and acrylic materials, that widely known for its resistance to chemical reaction, are needed to build the hovercraft. By using Atmega 8535 microcontroller and Arduino Uno board, a remote control was choosen to navigate hovercraft’s movement with support of 6 channels Transmitter Receiver. As a result, after series of tests that were carried out, indicate that the hovercraft’s prototype was found to meet design and requirements expectation.

Abstract

The Market for photovoltaic cells (PV) has grown fast due to a higher demand on PV applications. However, there are still the transport and connection problems of the PV systems to the grid because of the difference in the current form. To assure the adequate connection between the PV sources and the network, the conversion of direct current (DC) to an alternative current (AC) is required and provided by an electronic device known as the inverter. In this last years, the conventional inverter structure reached its limits in power level and conversion performance. The multilevel inverter (MLI) structure was introduced and widely used in high power and high voltage applications to solve the conventional inverter limitation problem. In this paper, the Neutral-Point-Clamped (NPC) topology of the MLI was simulated to evaluate the effect of modulation index variation of the control technique on the harmonic behavior of the fifteen-level NPC. The simulation results were useful for the optimization of the MLI control technique toward the decrease of the harmonic (THD) effect on the NPC MLI.

Abstract

Electrical machines lifetime and performances could be improved when along the design process both electromagnetic and thermal behaviors are taken into account. Moreover, real time information about the device thermal state is necessary to an appropriate control with minimized losses. Models based on lumped parameter thermal circuits are: generic, rapid, accurate and qualified as a convenient solution for power systems. The purpose of the present paper is to validate a simulation platform intended for the prediction of the thermal state of an induction motor covering all operation regimes.  To do so, in steady state, the proposed model is validated using finite element calculation and experimental records. Then, in an overload situation, obtained temperatures are compared to finite element’s ones. It has been found that, in both regimes, simulation results are with closed proximity to finite element’s ones and experimental records.

Abstract

The assessment model of coronary heart disease is so much developed in line with the development of information technology, particularly the field of artificial intelligence. Unfortunately, the assessment models developed mostly do not use such an approach made by the clinician, the tiered approach. This study aims to analyze the performance of a tiered model assessment. The method used for each level is, preprocessing, building architecture artificial neural network (ANN), conduct training using the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm and one step secant, as well as testing the system. The study is divided into the terms of the stages in the examination procedure. The test results showed the influence of each level, both when the output level of the previous positive or negative, were tested back at the next level. The performance evaluation may indicate that the top level provides performance improvement and or reinforce the previous level.

Abstract

The future of Open Distributed Processing systems (ODP) will see an increasing of components number, these components are sharing resources. In general, these resources are offering some kind of services. Due to the huge number of components, it is very difficult to offer the optimum Quality of service (QoS). This encourages us to develop a model for QoS negotiation process to optimize the QoS in an ODP system. In such system, there is a High risk of software or hardware failure. To ensure good performance of a system based on our model, we develop it using a formal method. In our case, we will use Event-B to get in the end of our development a system correct by construction.

Abstract

Blind source separation is a very known problem which refers to finding the original sources without the aid of information about the nature of the sources and the mixing process, to solve this kind of problem having only the mixtures, it is almost impossible , that why using some assumptions is needed in somehow according to the differents situations existing in the real world, for exemple, in laboratory condition, most of tested algorithms works very fine and having good performence because the  nature and the number of the input signals are almost known apriori and then the mixing process is well determined for the separation operation.  But in fact, the real-life scenario is much more different and of course the problem is becoming much more complicated due to the the fact of having the most of the parameters of the linear equation are unknown. In this paper, we present a novel method based on Gaussianity and Sparsity for signal separation algorithms where independent component analysis will be used. The Sparsity as a preprocessing step, then, as a final step, the Gaussianity based source separation block has been used to estimate the original sources. To validate our proposed method, the FPICA algorithm based on BSS technique has been used.

Abstract

Epoxy resin composites reinforced to different types of carbon nano-particles have been fabricated. Carbon black (20, 30 and 40 wt. %), graphene (0.5 to 4 wt. %) and carbon nanotubes (CNT) (0.5 to 2 wt. %) were added with different weight percentages to epoxy. The dielectric strength of composites was tested in several conditions such as (dry, wet, low salinity and high salinity). The mechanical characterization showed that the nano-composite Polymer enhanced by using these particles in the tensile strength. Thermal gravimetric analysis shows effect of these nano-particles on the thermal structure of epoxy resin. Scanning Electron Microscopic test is used to characterize the dispersion of carbon nano-particles and to analysis the fractured parts in the nano scale.
