Abstract

Multistage Coilgun is an electromagnetic coil composed of more than one coil so that can throw a projectile. The velocity of the projectile coming out of the tube must be controlled. The mechanism can be done by a multistage coilgun design that has a varying number of turns. Each coil that coincides with one another is wrapped separately. The motion of projectile following the velocity profile is perfomed by designing a multistage coil in different layer number based on the energy needed, and therefore the coil is more efficient. Furthermore, the velocity of the projectile is controlled by controlling the current injected to the coil using the Genetic Algorithm method. A prototype of a multistage coilgun system with the proposed coil variation is built in this work. The test is carried out 7 times with an average final velocity of the projectile of 29,89 m/s. While the results of the numerical simulation are 32,63 m/s. Testing error compared to simulation is 9,15%.

Abstract

Continuous speech segmentation and its  recognition is playing important role in natural language processing. Continuous context based Kannada speech segmentation depends  on context, grammer and semantics rules present in the kannada language. The significant feature extraction of kannada speech signal  for recognition system is quite exciting for researchers. In this paper proposed method  is  divided into two parts. First part of the method is continuous kannada speech signal segmentation with respect to the context based is carried out  by computing  average short term energy and its spectral centroid coefficients of  the speech signal present in the specified window. The segmented outputs are completely  meaningful  segmentation  for different scenarios with less segmentation error. The second part of the method is speech recognition by extracting less number Mel frequency cepstral coefficients with less  number of codebooks  using vector quantization .In this recognition is completely based on threshold value. This threshold setting is a challenging task however the simple method is used to achieve better recognition rate. The experimental results shows more efficient  and effective segmentation    with high recognition rate for any continuous context based kannada speech signal with different accents for male and female than the existing methods and also used minimal feature dimensions for training data.

Abstract

Text summarization is an active research area in the field of natural language processing. Huge amount of information in the internet necessitates the development of automatic summarization systems. There are two types of summarization techniques: Extractive and Abstractive. Extractive summarization selects important sentences from the text and produces summary as it is present in the original document. Abstractive summarization systems will provide a summary of the input text as is generated by human beings. Abstractive summary requires semantic analysis of text. Limited works have been carried out in the area of abstractive summarization in Indian languages especially in Malayalam. Only extractive summarization methods are proposed in Malayalam. In this paper, an abstractive summarization system for Malayalam documents using clause identification method is proposed. As part of this research work, a POS tagger and a morphological analyzer for Malayalam words in cricket domain are also developed. The clauses from input sentences are identified using a modified clause identification algorithm. The clauses are then semantically analyzed using an algorithm to identify semantic triples - subject, object and predicate. The score of each clause is then calculated by using feature extraction and the important clauses which are to be included in the summary are selected based on this score. Finally an algorithm is used to generate the sentences from the semantic triples of the selected clauses which is the abstractive summary of input documents.

Abstract

A new efficient method for detecting congested bottleneck nodes and avoiding them in the route formation in a wireless sensor network is described. Sensor nodes with a higher degree of congestion are excluded while determining the best routing path from a given source to destination in a multi-hop transmission. In a scenario where different communication paths have different maximum congestion levels, selecting that path which has least maximum congestion, is a challenging task. A modified Bellman-Ford algorithm is proposed to solve this problem efficiently. The proposed technique is very much useful for the optimal route selection for vehicles in metropolitan cities that avoids high traffic density junctions. Once the desired destination is specified, the traffic control system can use this algorithm to provide the least congested routes to the intra-city vehicles.

Abstract

The electrical distribution network is a critical and complex system in terms of safety and reliability, because it is composed of different components (switches, reclosers, etc.). The improvement of its reliability is therefore one of the most important tasks through the good management of remote-controlled switches and reclosers in this network. This paper presents an analytical model based on graph theory to evaluate SAIDI and SAIFI indices based on the network architecture and the location of remote-controlled reclosers and switches. These indicators have been used to formalize a multi-objective mathematical model that respects the real operation constraints of equipments in smart grid. The applied model, in this article, was evaluated on an IEEE 13 bus network using the TOPSIS method to determine the optimal location of the switches and reclosers and to improve the overall reliability of the distribution network.

Abstract

Malaysian Sign Language (MSL) is an important language that is used as the primary communication method for the deaf communities with the others. Currently, the MSL is poorly known by the Malaysians and the existing platform of learning the sign language is inefficient, not to mention the incomplete functionality of the existing mobile learning application in the market. Hence, the purpose of developing this application is aimed to increase the knowledge and recognition of the public towards the MSL and allows them to learn the sign language more effectively. One of the features in this application is sign detection, which could analyze the image captured by phone camera into sign meaning. The application also comprised various categories of the sign for efficient learning and quiz to test user knowledge against their learned sign language. Besides, there is a feedback module for the user to express their opinions and suggestions towards the application to the developer. This application is aimed to help the public to learn MSL efficiently by selecting the category of sign they wish to learn and test themselves by using the quiz module. Besides, the application could also detect the unknown sign by capturing the image and analyze it. The application helped to raise the recognition of MSL among the public and expose the public to the sign language knowledge. It had also become a small help in breaking the barrier of communication between the deaf communities and the public.

Abstract

A short but comprehensive review of Retinex has been presented in this paper. Retinex theory aims to explain human color perception. In addition, its derivation on modifying the reflectance components has introduced effective approaches for images contrast enhancement. In this review, the classical theory of Retinex has been covered. Moreover, advance and improved techniques of Retinex, proposed in the literature, have been addressed. Strength and weakness aspects of each technique are discussed and compared. An optimum parameter is needed to be determined to define the image degradation level. Such parameter determination would help in quantifying the amount of adjustment in the Retinex theory. Thus, a robust framework to modify the reflectance component of the Retinex theory can be developed to enhance the overall quality of color images.

Abstract

In the designing and operation of interconnected power systems, automatic-generation-control (AGC) represent an important topic. AGC is responsible for maintaining the balance between generation side and load side via controlling the frequency and active power interchange. A new metaheuristic strategy is proposed in this work for optimal controller tuning in AGC system. Ԝһale Орtimіzatіоn Αlgorithm(WOA) is proposed for optimal tuning of reset integral controller. T he proposed strategy is used for optimal AGC in two-areas interconnected-power system. The proposed tuning strategy is compared with other new metaheuristic optimization strategy termed as Harmony Search (HS). The two-area interconnected power system are simulated based MATLAB-toolbox. From results obtained, it is obvious that, the system transient and steady-state behavior are enhanced greatly under the same conditions. This is due to the use of the proposed optimization technique.  The proposed technique has an advanced and superior feature like, local optimum avoiding, fast convergence ability, and lower search agents and iteration are required. All mentioned features, make this strategy optimal for various optimization problems.

Abstract

The goal of adaptive learning systems is to help the learner achieve their goals and guide their learning. These systems make it possible to adapt the presentation of learning resources according to learners' needs, characteristics and learning styles, by offering them personalized courses. We propose an approach to an adaptive learning system that takes into account the initial learning profile based on Felder Silverman's learning style model in order to propose an initial learning path and the dynamic change of his behavior during the learning process using the Incremental Dynamic Case Based Reasoning approach to monitor and control its behavior in real time, based on the successful experiences of other learners, to personalize the learning. These learner experiences are grouped into homogeneous classes at the behavioral level, using the Fuzzy C-Means unsupervised machine learning method to facilitate the search for learners with similar behaviors using the supervised machine learning method K- Nearest Neighbors.

Abstract

The modeling of a car is essentially done by taking into consideration the driving terrain, traffic conditions, driver’s behavior and various other factors which may directly or indirectly affect the vehicle’s performance. A vehicle is modeled for given specifications and constraints like maximum speed, maximum acceleration, and braking time, appropriate suspension for the gradient of the road and fuel consumption. Henceforth, a profound study and analysis of different drive cycles are essential. A time dependent drive cycle is a condensed form of data that helps us to determine the time taken to conduct the driving test on the road. This article highlights the development of a real driving cycle in the area of Tamilnadu, India. On-road vehicle’s speeds versus time data were obtained along the selected route. The data obtained were analyzed first and then a new driving cycle was developed.
