Abstract

As part of the integrated strategy of the Moroccan state aimed at the social and economic development of the Moroccan rural community, an electrification program has been in place since the 90s. This program, called PEGR, has for main objective the improvement of the electrification rate for the national rural world. Given the large number of villages to be electrified and the colossal budget that will induce, several criteria have been retained to objectively distinguish the villages with the highest priority for electrification. Given the nature of this problem to be solved, which is a multicriteria decision aid problem, we propose in this article to use the multicriteria aggregation method ELECTRE III to rank the villages from the highest priority to the lowest priority for the electrification.

Abstract

This paper describes new active diode with bulk regulation transistors and its application to the integrated voltage rectifier circuit for a biological signal measurement system with smartphone. The conventional active diode with BRT has the dead region which causes leak current, and the output voltages of the application (e.g. voltage rectifier circuit) decrease. In order to overcome these problem, we propose new active diode with BRT which uses the control signal from the comparator of active diode to eliminate the dead region. Next we apply the proposed active diode with BRT to the integrated voltage rectifier circuit. The proposed active diode with BRT and voltage rectifier circuit were fabricated using 0.6 μm standard CMOS process. From experimental results, the proposed active diode with BRT eliminates the dead region perfectly, and the proposed voltage rectifier circuit generates + 2.86 V (positive side) and - 2.70 V (negative side) under the condition that the amplitude and frequency of the input sinusoidal signal are 1.5 V and 10 kHz, respectively, and the load resistance is 10 kΩ.

Abstract

In this paper, a novel scheduling scheme for the Fourth Generation (4G)-Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) network is proposed to ensure that end to end traffic transaction is provisioned seamlessly. The scheduling scheme is divided into two stages; in stage one, traffic is separated into Actual Time Traffic (ATT) and Non-Actual-Time Traffic (NATT), while in stage two, complex queuing strategy is performed. In stage one, Class-Based Queuing (CBQ) and Deficit Round Robin (DRR) are used for NATT and ATT applications, respectively to separate and forward traffic themselves according to source requirements. Whereas in the stage, two Control Priority Queuing (CPQ) is used to assign each class the appropriate priority level. Evaluation of the performance of the integrated network was done according to several metrics such as end-to-end delay, jitter, packet loss, and network’s throughput. Results demonstrate major improvements for AT services with minor degradation on NAT applications after implementing the new scheduling scheme.

Abstract

Analysis and detection of unusual events in public and private surveillance system is a complex task. Detecting unusual events in surveillance video requires the appropriate definition of similarity between events. The key goal of the proposed system is to detect behaviours or actions that can be considered as anomalies. Since suspicious events differ from domain to domain, it remains a challenge to detect those events in major domains such as airport, super malls, educational institutions etc. The proposed Mean Feature Point Matching (MFPM) algorithm is used for detecting unusual events. The Speeded-Up Robust Features (SURF) method is used for feature extraction. The MFPM algorithm compares the feature points of the input image with the mean feature points of trained dataset. The experimental result shows that the proposed system is efficient and accurate for wide variety of surveillance videos.

Abstract

Miniature devices development has been greatly complementing the technology developmental trend in telecommunication. This makes the new communication technology to sail smoothly into the society and creating unexpected market for both the telecommunication providers and embedded system manufactures. However power has been the major problem in the usage of some of these devices most especially in third world countries where power is epileptically supplied. This paper proposes a prototype system which wirelessly generates DC for charging and powering power-critical handheld and remotely located devices. The design captures 900MHz radio frequency signal with a dipole antenna, which is converted into DC and stores the power in the device’s battery or use it to power it. The major aim of this paper is to provide a prototypical system which provides a cheap, constant and environmental friendly system for powering and charging power critical handheld and remote devices thereby prevents systems failure due to power loss.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v2i4.572

Abstract

Membrane bioreactor employs an efficient filtration technology for solid and liquid separation in wastewater treatment process. Development of membrane filtration model is significant as this model can be used to predict filtration dynamic which is later utilized in control development. Most of the available models only suitable for monitoring purpose, which are too complex, required many variables and not suitable for control system design. This work focusing on the simple time seris model for membrane filtration process using neural network technique. In this paper, submerged membrane filtration model developed using recurrent neural network (RNN) train using genetic algorithm (GA), inertia weight particle swarm optimization (IW-PSO) and gravitational search algorithm (GSA). These optimization algorithms are compared in term of its accuracy and convergent speed in updating the weights and biases of the RNN for optimal filtration model. The evaluation of the models is measured using three performance evaluations, which are mean square error (MSE), mean absolute deviation (MAD) and coefficient of determination (R2). From the results obtained, all methods yield satisfactory result for the model, with the best results given by IW-PSO.

Abstract

Multimedia becomes one of the most wanted content in the modern Internet world. Since the Mobile Internet Protocol version 6 (MIPv6) was proposed, many researchers have tried to develop a new protocol based on this technology in order to improve the performance of mobile multimedia services. The world is emerging toward the Mobile Internet Protocol Television (MIPTV) era where people are enabled to watch television while roaming. The MIPTV technology requires high bandwidth and low latency handover. This paper proposes a new model of secure and robust handover with low handover latency, called SeamSAR. The model introduces a new way to perform home binding update and correspondent binding update simultaneously. Simulation results show that the proposed model reduced the handover latency to 63% compared to FMIPv6. Moreover, the secureness of the proposed model was verified using CMurphi simulator.

Abstract

In the recent past years, researchers have presented conflicting results regarding the impact of information technology investment on firm performance. Almost all studies on information technology productivity and it role for companies performance are based on data collected and meta-analysis and do not offer a methodology or prototype of analysis in any field This study presents an attempt to adopt a multi-criteria decision making approach to evaluate the non-financial performance of companies using two famous methods. Furthermore, our results try to investigate the effects of information technology investments on firms’ non-financial performance. Finding show that investment in information systems is not necessarily related to achieving a good non-financial performance at the firm level.

Abstract

This paper describes a method on segmentation of blood vessel in retinal images using supervised approach. Blood vessel segmentation in retinal images can be used for analyses in diabetic retinopathy automated screening. It is a very exhausting job and took a very long time to segment retinal blood vessels manually. Moreover these tasks also requires training and skills. The strategy involves the applications of Support Vector Machine to classify each pixel whether it belongs to a vessel or not. Single mask filters which consist of intensity values of normalized green channel have been generated according to the direction of angles. These single oriented mask filters contain the vectors of the neighbourhood of each pixel. Five images randomly selected from DRIVE database are used to train the classifier. Every single oriented mask filters are ranked according to the average accuracy of training images and their weights are assigned based on this rank.  Ensemble approaches that are Addition With Weight and Product With Weight have been used to combine all these single mask filters. In order to test the proposed approach, two standard databases, DRIVE and STARE have been used. The results of the proposed method clearly show improvement compared to other single oriented mask filters.
