Cadmium telluride (CdTe) thin film material was deposited ontop of Cadmium Sulfide (CdS) substrate using vacuum evaporation technique. The sample was characterized using X-ray diffraction(XRD) and UV-VIS-NIR spectroscopy. XRD studies revealed that the sample was polycrystalline in nature. The SEM image showed that the sample is columnar in structure and the grains are uniform. Optical band gap of the CdTe thin film was estimated from transmittance and reflectance data and it was found 1.53eV.The structural, optical and surface properties of the film showed that the CdTe thin film materials can be used for fabrication of CdTe thin film solar cell.

The primary characteristics of ULS systems are ultra-large size, number of lines of code (LOC); number of people employing the systems; amount of data stored, accessed, manipulated, and refined; number of connections and interdependencies among software components; number of hardware elements. These characteristics of ULS systems make it impossible to rely on our current knowledge and techniques of software development. We will face fundamental challenges in the design and evolution, orchestration and control, and monitoring and assessment of ULS systems. In this paper we try to make a combination between ULS systems and Multi Agent Systems and to use Multi Agent System strengths to help tackling some challenges found in ultra-large scale systems. Banking system is an instance of ULS systems. As a case study, in a real project we have designed Automated Teller Machine (ATM) combination with biometric sensors based on multi-agent architecture.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i2.4102

The present article describes the improvement of Self-regulation Nonlinear PID (SN-PID) controller. A new function is introduced to improve the system performance in terms of transient without affecting the steady state performance. It is used to optimize the nonlinear function available on this controller. The signal error is reprocessed through this function, and the result is used to tune the nonlinear function of the controller. Furthermore, the presence of the dead zone on the proportional valve is solved using Dead Zone Compensator (DZC). Simulations and experiments were carried out on the pneumatic positioning system. Comparisons between the existing methods were examined and successfully demonstrated.

This paper proposed a new algorithm for fault location and classification using wavelet based on Clarke’s transformation to obtain the fault current. This novel method of fault current approach is studied by comparing the use of the glide path of the fault voltage. The current alpha and beta (Current Mode) were used to transform the signal using discrete wavelet transform (DWT). The fault location was determined by using the Clarke’s transformation, and then turned into a wavelet, which was very precise and thorough. The most accurate was the mother wavelet Db4 which had the fastest time and smallest error detection when compared with the other wavelet mothers. In this study, the Clarke’s transformation is also compared with the Karenbauer’s, which has produced results with similar error percentage. The simulation results using PSCAD / EMTDC software showed that the proposed algorithm could distinguish internal and external faults to get the current signal in the transformation of a signal fault.

This paper analyze the operation of a multi input switched capacitor (MIC) converters using a couple of switches, diodes and capacitors for several levels. With two input sources it is possible to obtain 8 output voltage levels. Here, 5 topologies of switched capacitor circuits namely summation, subtraction, inverting, double and half circuits are simulated and their performances are analyzed. Multi Input Converters have a high regard for multiple renewable energy sources used in smart grid systems, especially for distributed generators. The effects on output voltage with variation in load for different frequencies are also analyzed. Hardware implementation of summation and subtraction circuit is carried out and the results are compared with the simulated results

Now-a-days Renewable Energy Sources became an alternative to meet the increasing load demand because they are environmental friendly and also available abundant in nature. Among the Renewable Energy Sources, the Photo Voltaic (PV) System is gaining more attention due abundant availability of solar energy. The Maximum Power Point Tracking Technique is used to extract maximum power from the Photo Voltaic (PV) Array. When there is a need to transfer bulk amount of power from PV Array to Power Grid, the power quality issues, especially the real and reactive power flow problems, are a major concern. In this paper a novel control technique was proposed to control the power flow and to deal with power quality issues that arise when PV Array is integrated with power grid. It consists of a Fuzzy-GA based Cascaded Controller fed Flexible AC Transmission System device, namely Unified Power Flow Controller, for effective control of real and reactive power flow in grid connected photovoltaic system. The output of the Fuzzy Logic Controller is a control vector which is fine tuned by using Genetic Algorithm approach.

In the context of this article, we are particularly interested in the modeling and control of an induction heating system powered by high frequency resonance inverter. The proposed control scheme comprises a current loop and a PLL circuit. This latter is an electronic assembly for slaving the instantaneous phase of output on the instantaneous input phase, and is used to follow the rapid variations of the frequency. To further improve the transient dynamics of the studied system and in order to reduce the impact of measurement noise on the control signal, a generalized predictive control has been proposed to control the current of the inductor. We discussed the main steps of this command, whose it uses a minimization algorithm to obtain an optimal control signals, its advantages are: its design is simple, less complexity and direct manipulation of the control signal. The results have shown the effectiveness of the proposed method, especially in the parameters variation and/or the change of the reference current.

In order to evaluate the trustworthiness of participating peers in unstructured peer-to-peer networks, Reputation aggregation methods are used in this method. Each and every peer of the network will collect the local scores of each transaction and will compute global scores by aggregating all the local scores with the help of global scores, each individual peer can interact with its suitable peers. But the existing method will not consider the score of the new peer. In this condition, requests are handled by existing peers who leads to failure in downloading process. To rectify this, NP-TRUST model is used to distribute the request to all peers including the newly joined peers. The proposed method is compared with gossip and DFR-TRUST model in Transaction Success rate and variation in file request.

In recent years, many works have been done in order to discuss economic dispatch in which wind farms are installed in electrical grids in addition to conventional power plants. Nevertheless, the emissions caused by fossil fuels have not been considered in most of the studies done before. In fact, thermal power plants produce important quantities of emissions for instance, carbon dioxide (CO2) and sulphur dioxide (SO2) that are harmful to the environment. This paper presents an optimization algorithm with the objective to minimize the emission levels and the production cost. A comparison of the results obtained with different optimization methods leads us to opt for the grey wolf optimizer technique (GWO) to use for solving the proposed objective function. First, the method used to estimate the wind power of a plant is presented. Second, the economic dispatch models for wind and thermal generators are presented followed by the emission dispatch model for the thermal units. Then, the proposed objective function is formulated. Finally, the simulation results obtained by applying the GWO and other known optimization techniques are analysed and compared.

Edge detection is an important assignment in image processing, as it is used as a primary tool for pattern recognition, image segmentation and scene analysis. An edge detector is a high-pass filter that can be applied for extracting the edge points within an image. Edge detection in the spatial domain is accomplished through convolution with a set of directional derivative masks in this domain. On the other hand, working in the frequency domain has many advantages, starting from introducing an alternative description to the spatial representation and providing more efficient and faster computational schemes with less sensitivity to noise through high filtering, de-noising and compression algorithms. Fourier transforms, wavelet and curvelet transform are among the most widely used frequency-domain edge detection from satellite images. However, the Fourier transform is global and poorly adapted to local singularities. Some of these draw backs are solved by the wavelet transforms especially for singularities detection and computation. In this paper, the relatively new multi-resolution technique, curvelet transform, is assessed and introduced to overcome the wavelet transform limitation in directionality and scaling. In this research paper, the assessment of second generation curvelet transforms as an edge detection tool will be introduced and compared with first generation cuevelet transform.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v3i3.2451
