Abstract

In this paper we present four simple analytical threshold voltage model for short- channel and length of saturation velocity region (LVSR) effect that takes into account the built – in potential of the source and drain channel junction, the surface potential and the surface electric field effect on double – gate graphene nanoribbon transistors. Four established models for surface potential, lateral electric field, LVSR and threshold voltage are presented. These models are based on the easy analytical solution of the two dimensional potential distribution in the graphene and Poisson equation which can be used to obtain surface potential, lateral electric field, LVSR and threshold voltage. These models give a closed form solution of the surface potential and electrical field distribution as a function of structural parameters and drain bias. Most of analytical outcomes are shown to correlate with outcomes acquired by Matlab simulation and the end model applicability to the published silicon base devices is demonstrated.

Abstract

This paper presents the dynamic behavior of a coaxial micro-helicopter, under Quantitative Feedback Theory (QFT) control. The flight dynamics of autonomous air vehicles (AAVs) with rotating rings is non-linear and complex. Then, it becomes necessary to characterize these non-linearities for each flight configuration, in order to provide these autonomous air vehicles (AAVs) with autonomous flight and navigation capabilities. Then, the nonlinear model is linearized around the operating point using some assumptions. Finally, a robust QFT control law over the coaxial micro-helicopter is applied to meet some specifications. QFT (quantitative feedback theory) is a control law design method that uses frequency domain concepts to meet performance specifications while managing uncertainty. This method is based on the feedback control when the plant is uncertain or when uncertain disturbances are affecting the plant. The QFT design approach involves conventional frequency response loop shaping by manipulating the gain variable with the poles and zeros of the nominal transfer function. The design process is accomplished by using MATLAB environment software.

Abstract

Agile methodologies adaptation in software companies is an accepted norm.Rapid application development and efficient deliverables being the premise. The changing business needs, cost effectiveness and timely delivery are catered to by agile methods. Different software development models are in the literature and also are being used by the industry. Few companies have adopted agile, few are gearing up for and few are in transition. We investigated agile presence in a software company.Project management is an evolving art with innovative methods being added up.The aim of this paper is to tease about project management challenges, agile, agile transition in companies and a comparison of conventional software engineering practices with agile process model.This paper takes stock of the current status of quality in software projects and to add on quality process improvement strategies. The results presented here are after a qualitative interview study with one cross function team using streamline development framework in agile development.

Abstract

Embedded systems with multi core processors are increasingly popular because of the diversity of applications that can be run on it. In this work, a reinforcement learning based scheduling method is proposed to handle the real time tasks in multi core systems with effective CPU usage and lower response time. The priority of the tasks is varied dynamically to ensure fairness with reinforcement learning based priority assignment and Multi Core MultiLevel Feedback queue (MCMLFQ) to manage the task execution in multi core system.

Abstract

2013 curriculum is a new curriculum in the Indonesian education system which has been enacted by the government to replace KTSP curriculum. The implementation of this curriculum in the last few years has sparked various opinions among students, teachers, and public in general, especially on social media twitter. In this study, a sentimental analysis on 2013 curriculum is conducted. Ensemble of several feature sets were used twitter specific features, textual features, Parts of Speech (POS) features, lexicon based features, and Bag of Words (BOW) features for the sentiment classification using K-Nearest Neighbor method. The experiment result showed that the the ensemble features have the best performance of sentiment classification compared to only using individual features. The best accuracy using ensemble features is 96% when k=5 is used.

Abstract

Electrical failure due to surface discharge on the insulation material will cause material degradation and eventually lead to system failure. The flow of leakage current (LC) on the insulator surface under wet contamination is used to determine the material degradation level. According to IEC 60587 standard, LC exceeding 60 mA for more than two seconds is considered as failure. In this study, the  electric field and current density distributions on the linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) and natural rubber blend material have been analyzed using finite element method (FEM) analysis. The physical parameters used in FEM simulation were applied with voltage and contaminant flow rate, in accordance to contaminant conductivity. Tracking test condition according to IEC 60587 standard has been applied as proposed by the reference work in simulation using QuickField FEM software. The results show that the electric field and current density would become critical in higher applied voltage and contaminant flow rate. The highest average and highest maximum current density and electric field are found in both applied voltage of 6 kV and contaminant flow rate of 0.90 mlmin-1.

Abstract

The development of computer based sign language recognition system, for enabling communication with hearing impaired people, is an important research area that faces different challenges in the pre-processing stage of image processing, particularly in boundary detection stage. In edge detection, the possibility of achieving high quality images significantly depends on the fitting threshold values, which are generally selected using canny method, and these threshold values may vary, based on the type of images and the applications chosen. This research work presents a novel idea of establishing a hybrid particle swarm optimization algorithm, which is a combination of PSO with the behavioural pattern of cellular organism in canny method, that defines an objective to find optimal threshold values for the implementation of double thresholding hysteresis method, which is viewed as a non-linear complex problem. The attempt to incorporate the model has minimized the problem of quick convergence of PSO algorithm which has improved the detection of broken edges. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm is proved through the experimental observation, done in Tamil sign images to indicate the better performance of canny operator by introducing new variant based PSO.

Abstract

To reduce the high harmonic components at the main power supply current and to improve the input voltage distortion for matrix converter, design of input filters characteristics for matrix converter system is very important. Also, the input filter can be applied to the near unity power factor operation at the input side. It can be used to improve the power quality of the input current. This paper represents a direct space vector modulation (SVM) method and introduces switching patterns for SVM method and then design of input filter to compensate the power factor is analyzed. Simulation results with inductive load (RL) and Permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) are shown to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i1.4813

We extend the concept of being densely homogeneous to include fuzzy topological spaces. We prove that our extension is a good extension in the sense of Lowen. We prove that a-cut topological space (X,I_a) of a DH fuzzy topological space (X,I) is DH in general only for a=0.

Abstract

This paper presents a 60 GHz power amplifier (PA) suitable for wireless communications. The two-stage wideband PA is fabricated in 55 nm CMOS. Measurement results show that the PA obtains a peak gain of 16 dB over a -3 dB bandwidth from 57 GHz to 67 GHz. It archives an output 1 dB compression point (OP1dB) of 4 dbm and a peak power added efficiency (PAE) of 12.6%. The PA consumes a total DC power of 38.3 mW from a 1.2 V supply voltage while its core occupies a chip area of 0.45 mm2.
